Say no to console locked peripherals.

Computerchairgeneral, w PlayStation Portal Review - IGN

Still, not entirely sure who this is supposed to be for. The poor battery life, lack of Bluetooth, and the inability to play media is just disappointing, even at 200 dollars. Just feels like there are better ways to play PS5 games on the go than this.

misanthropy, w Resident Evil 4 Remake wins PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023

You know things are great in gaming when a port of a ten year old game wins goty

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Ten? It's a remake of an 18-year-old game.

ampersandrew, (edited ) w Resident Evil 4 Remake wins PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Why did we single out just this award from the whole show? Not only are there plenty of others worth talking about, there's also all the ways that show hung on by a thread. Troy Baker basically apologized for each joke written for him to read, and he and Gary Whitta had to yell at a nearby table for talking loudly over award winners.

Computerchairgeneral, w Embracer’s TimeSplitters studio Free Radical faces closure | VGC

Another Embracer casualty. It's crazy how studios are getting gutted left and right because a single business deal fell through. I wonder how many studios Embracer is going to shut down before they finally finish "restructuring"?

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

I think it's way beyond that business deal by now. They're not responsible for the layoffs at Sony, Microsoft, EA, or Epic, after all. Something ended the money party that everyone in the industry staffed up for, and that something might be inflation reducing consumer spending, the crypto crash, higher interest rates making borrowing money more expensive, something else entirely, or a little bit of all of that.

Ganondorf, w Nintendo is making a live-action Legend of Zelda movie with Sony
@Ganondorf@kbin.social avatar

This director doesn't have many directing credits but seems that worked out well for The Super Mario Movie. His current catalog is averaging around 7 on IMDb, which is a far better indicator of quality than RT, so that's promising.

Personally, I haven't seen an FPS made for me in a long time, so I was betting on a new TimeSplitters being it. The last two FPS campaigns I was into were Half-Life: Alyx in 2020 and Titanfall 2 in 2016. Those are slim pickings over a long timespan while the rest of the genre focused on live service garbage (though, to be fair, I still have yet to play Wolfenstein II). If that new Perfect Dark happens, I'm betting Microsoft spends $400M turning it into an extraction shooter multiplayer with a modern Call of Duty campaign, neither of which is what I want. TimeSplitters was likely only going to happen on a shoestring budget that couldn't afford to turn into the kind of game I don't want it to be, lol.

Ganondorf,
@Ganondorf@kbin.social avatar

I personally haven't seen a FPS be unique or engaging since the last Bioshock... and before that was maybe the first Bioshock or FEAR lol

The MiLiTaRy Is CoOL vibe from COD, Battlefront and Halo never appealed to me, but Halo Combat Evolved on PC and Halo 3's multiplayer was at least fun.

So... do you think we'll get "silent" Link (as in the games; the version of Link who doesn't have much to say -- besides his iconic mouth noises, of course), a return to "Well, EXCUUUUSE me Princess!", or something different?

jaden, w Epic Games Admits In Court That Its PC Store Still Isn't Profitable

This is good, 30% cut is only possible because of monopolistic behavior.

ripcord,
@ripcord@kbin.social avatar

Why would this be good, for that reason...?

WHYAREWEALLCAPS,

I could be wrong, but I believe Epic or Sweeney threw something like that around about Steam's pricing model. Or maybe it was just an Internet thing. Regardless, the idea floated was that the only reason Steam took such a cut was it's monopolistic powers. What I believe jaden is trying to say is that that line of reasoning is being shown to be bullshit and that Steam takes that much so it can be profitable.

waterhouse, w Starfield Patch Adding Native DLSS Support and Other Improvements Is Coming Soon - IGN

are they finishing all the half-baked /game/ portions of the rest of the game? (outposts, space combat, fast travel, etc :) )

ursakhiin,

I get that things felt sparse but Starfield does have over 200 hours of content. That’s roughly how much went into my first playthrough and I never felt like it was repetitive. I also didn’t go for completion so there were likely another 100 hours I skipped.
