toasteecup, w Mother creator says "please talk to Nintendo, not me" about missing western launch

Nintendo? Make shitty business decisions? Never

TheAlbatross, w Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree Preorders Are Already Discounted

$40 for a DLC is fairly ridiculous, $35 isn’t much better.

That’s more than half the price of the base game! Is the DLC going to have more than half a base game’s worth of content?

Glitchington,
@Glitchington@lemmy.world avatar

Most likely. From Software traditionally make some of the best DLC in the industry.

TheAlbatross,

Sure, but they don’t have more than half the base game’s worth of content and time in em.

An especially daunting task with Elden Ring, which is huge.

I worry that this kind of price point will become acceptable if this does well and I simply don’t think that is okay. $40 is far too much for DLC.

EmpiricalFlock, w Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's director wants series vets and newbies alike to be surprised by its twist and turns, seeing the remake as more than 'just a callback'
@EmpiricalFlock@beehaw.org avatar

Oof. You’d think if they wanted to surprise people with twists and turns they’d just make a new game instead of altering the plot of a remake (unless I’m misunderstanding).

No you're correct, that's exactly what they did.

InEnduringGrowStrong, w Helldivers 2 Is Too Popular For Its Own Good
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

Bring dedicated servers back.
Can’t have persistent server capacity issues if I can throw my own hardware at it.
This also gets rid of match making, which is whatever. Just give me a server browser and I’ll find a few favorites and hang on those.
It can also keep working long after the companies give up on them too.

Arbiter,

Seriously, it’s also the only way to preserve the online game long after it’s stopped being profitable.

conciselyverbose,

This also gets rid of match making, which is whatever.

In the real world, probably.

But it doesn't actually have to. There's nothing stopping you from letting users add multiple matchmaking servers, and even adding some basic rules to queue up in multiple (eg: primary matchmaking for 30 seconds, if no signal indicating good progress towards a match, fall back to also joining server two, etc). It would take a little thought to the base server you provide to handle everything gracefully, but if your priority is actually to give your players the best chance to have a long term ability to form their own communities and play the game reliably instead of to maintain an iron grip to squeeze every penny out, you could do it.

key, w After five years in early access, Satisfactory will finally launch into 1.0 later this year

Awesome. I look forward to finally having a reason to pick up those damn noisy spheres

Ashyr, w Spec Ops: The Line's sudden removal from Steam baffles its director: 'Why has this happened?'

Super weird. That game is great, just play it on easy and enjoy the ride.

Entropy, w Spec Ops: The Line's sudden removal from Steam baffles its director: 'Why has this happened?'

I hope they figure it out and potentially get it reinstated. It would be a shame for such a good game to be lost to so many people

jeebus, w The Pokémon Company Announces It Will ‘Investigate’ Palworld IP And Assets

Nintendo always wanted to arm their Pokemon, just were too scared to do it.

Eggyhead, w Monster Hunter Rise update adds Enigma DRM, breaks Steam Deck compatibility
@Eggyhead@kbin.social avatar

Uncanny timing for my Deck’s RMA repair. I had been deep into Sunbreak.

FWIW, Capcom has acknowledged the issue publicly and clearly do not want this to be the case. It’ll probably be fixed sooner rather than later.

shiveyarbles, w Monster Hunter Rise update adds Enigma DRM, breaks Steam Deck compatibility

Adding the good stuff, as usual Capcom fails to read the room

Kit, w Dave The Diver studio's next game is a team-based PvP arena battler

Meh. Don’t we have enough of those in the world? I wish they would stick with making charming, simple, relaxing games.

icerunner_origin, w Dave The Diver studio's next game is a team-based PvP arena battler

Oh good! We don’t have anywhere near enough of those.

ConstableJelly, w Take-Two Interactive and Remedy Entertainment are in a dispute over the letter R

I changed my first name because it started with an R and I didn’t want to infringe on any of Take Two’s precious trademarks.

WanderingPoltergeist, w CD Projekt narrative director declares Cyberpunk 2077 'just a warm-up' as work kicks off on the sequel
@WanderingPoltergeist@kbin.social avatar

The narrative director had little to do with the technical elements of the game; that jab should've been directed at the higher ups who forced this game to be pushed this game out the doorway too soon! I'm sure the developer team was disappointed with the broken launch of their game, but we need to be reminded that CDPR doesn't get off scot free. The hype they're trying to build needs to be cooled with reminders of their past behavior.
