Hyperreality, w Squash all those irritating Starfield bugs with this essential community patch mod

Is the game 'finished' yet or should I wait till the modding community has had some more time to work on mods?

"Why bother? Some of those stupid modders will fix it for us in a few months"

Computerchairgeneral, w Squash all those irritating Starfield bugs with this essential community patch mod

Glad to see Starfield reach another Bethesda game milestone: outsourcing your bug-fixing to modders. More seriously, I'm excited to see what modders end up being able to do with Starfield once they get used to making mods for it.

Computerchairgeneral, w Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Will Have Animal Crossing-Style Minigames

The great thing about the Yakuza/LAD games is that they could put almost any kind of mini-game in them and it just works, even if it shouldn't. Like I'm not even sure if this is the weirdest mini-game that has been in one of these.

No whining, no drama, just no sale, like many others will do. This move creates doubts about what other problems were considered acceptable. The first game is pretty good, and waiting a bit will likely see a discount and possibly a better game.

Kbin and lemmy are still relatively small things, so it’s hard to get a steady flow of content in more niche communities and there is allways the real possibility that multiple communities exist for a specific topic, but their members are unaware of the others.

But yeah, i’d enjoy specialized single game communities, hell i especially miss the various magic the gathering communities.

@Dunstabzugshaubitze I know there's magictcg@lemmy.world for Magic but yeah it seems like the Kbin and Lemmy communities have a long way to grow just need more people using it to then fill the smaller communities.

There likely is not enough users to sustain individual game communities.

SamXavia,
@SamXavia@kbin.run avatar

@ProdigalFrog That sucks, it would be really good to see the different gaming communities grow as I feel that's one of the best ways to grow the Fediverse further than it already is. Especially as general Gaming Communities don't really do it for me as I'm not interested in these games, I'm interested maybe in just learning or hearing about a certain game.

ProdigalFrog,

I feel that’s one of the best ways to grow the Fediverse further than it already is.

What I’ve seen happen is that someone with an interest in a more niche thing here will create a community for it, actively post in it for a couple weeks, and maybe a couple other people will post in it a couple times too, but then the creator loses interest or lacks material to post, and the community sits with old posts months old.

Not to dissuade you from making an attempt at creating those communities, but it’s just a little hard to sustain them without active participation to keep people coming back and growing.

You may even find that there are some active communities for games you’re interest in, but may just have trouble finding them. The best way I’ve found to discover communities is with Lemmyverse, using the communities tab at the top.

    To expand a bit on the user base issue: Even on Reddit with its giant user base a game needs to have a decently sized audience in order to sustain a healthy and active subreddit.

    Now, hypothetically speaking, even if this place had a tenth of the user base, it would mean that a game would still need to be 10x bigger in comparison in order to maintain an active community.

    For now, only a very, very small handful of games are above that threshold.

    Ganondorf, w Sakurai Is Sceptical That Future Smash Bros. Titles Can Match Ultimate's Scope
    @Ganondorf@kbin.social avatar

    I've said this on smash forums before and had the toxic side of the fanbase lose their shit over it, but the next Smash Bros iteration should be a complete reset on the roster and that roster's movesets. e.g. Samus Aran should be reworked to incorporate skills from Samus Returns, Fusion, the Prime series and Dread. Right now her moveset is stuck on her Super Metroid form. Link should be reworked to be more based on BotW/TotK. Mario should be reworked to incorporate Odyssey, Galaxy and Wonder.

    I LOVE the Smash franchise and have devoted thousands of hours of my life to the series - but that doesn't change many characters growing stale and being trapped in their pasts. Right now Smash celebrates gaming legacies, but it should be changed to celebrate more than just the distant legacies. The last 10 years of most characters are completely ignored by the current roster. It should celebrate those characters' futures too.

    Grass,

    Peach is getting a new game that would justify an entirely new moveset too.

    It would also be nice if celebrated a larger percentage of the non-Japanese side of things, if they go back to guest characters. Other than better netcode, the way you make a smaller roster make sense is if you flip the game on its head with a new set of universal mechanics, like how Street Fighter 5 to Street Fighter 6 is acceptable because everything is about the Drive system.

    thingsiplay, w Steam Deck rival Lenovo Legion Go is out now
    @thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

    Legion Go does not offer a cheap entry point for people who want to get started. Sure the hardware is strong and probably worth the price. But it does not change the fact that the cheapest Steam Deck model is still cheap to get, especially with the refurbished program with official support from Valve in mind as well. But for enthusiasts who want powerful hardware, the Legion Go is probably better.

    My biggest problem with the Legion Go would be probably that its using Windows and not Linux, so this is a downside to me. The detachable controllers are nice to have and while I would not need them, having them easily replaceable is a big bonus to me. It's a little bit bigger than the Steam Deck and the Deck is already a chunky boi. When my research is correct, then the Legion Go is 200 grams heavier than the Deck? That is substantial.

    and a slightly better battery life will probably be appealing to some

    I want to see benchmarks or tests with real games for that. We had claims with previous handhelds too, where they promised longer battery life. But the reality was they did not last as long as promised or under very specific circumstances only. It has higher resolution and hertz, so it will need more power. And it's probably not optimized for low power settings like the Steam Deck with limited power settings does, but I am open to this.

    there may be a bit of danger for Gabe Newell and his team

    Not really. Valve (and Gaben) want this to happen. They want the handheld PC market to flourish, because they are pushing Steam and PC gaming forward and make it usable for non PC enthusiasts as well. Even if Valve stops selling Steam Decks, Gabe Newell and his team would not be in danger. Unless this was a sarcastic note; in which case ignore this paragraph.

    habanhero,

    I tend to agree but for me specifically it’s SteamOS that’s the killer app, and not just any Linux distro. The way Valve did the SteamOS user experience is just fantastic. I cannot imagine running straight-up Windows on such portable devices.

    Snowplow8861,

    This article was hard to read, based on zero facts they’ve determined experience factors like battery life and performance which all depends on more than just hardware.

    Then setting the conversation again argumentatively like valve doesn’t win no matter who makes a clone, is just ignorant. Valve wins by making a store that sells. They could even sell for a loss.

    I went to that article to get information and read hype and antagonism. I came away frustrated.

    As the proverb says, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. It would seem Valve has truly defined a new category of device, given the rush by other OEMs to make clones!

    Nice, more competition will only advance this sector of the gaming market.

    snownyte,
    @snownyte@kbin.social avatar

    Competition is healthy for business. It is what is needed to help people find alternatives. Not to say handhelds like the Nintendo Switch is bad, but it should not be the primary method to play games with.

    The only people keeping this idea that there must be one primary source of gaming on the go, are rabid fanboys who're thick into tribalism that wants to see only one option available.
