forgotaboutlaye, w Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty review: perhaps the best expansion pack ever made

I’ve been playing only RPGs the past few months with BG3 and Starfield, so I’m not in a rush to play Phantom Liberty right away. Looking forward to trying the free 2.0 patch today and will probably do a vanilla playthrough before I think about getting the expansion.

Either way, looking forward to PC coverage coming out.

Blizzard,

CDPR said it’s best to start a new game with the expansion.

conciselyverbose,

I think they were specifically referring to the "2.0" because it entirely overhauls the systems. They suggest restarting so your progression feels natural and you can decide how to allocate skills as you learn them.

I didn't see anything saying the actual expansion benefitted from starting over. I was under the impression that it's a mid/late game area/missions.

im going to respec a saved game a few times just to see how some of the abilities function. like air jump. then use that to plan out a build and then restart

Psythik,

How are you enjoying Starfield so far? I somehow managed to play for over 30 hours before I realized that the story isn’t very engaging and that I’m not having any fun. The only entertainment I’m getting is from looting a bunch of junk I’ll never use, but I can do that in literally any Bethesda game. Just curious what you think.

HubertManne,
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

no who you were asking but I don't want to progress from where Im at without making a based and the base construction thing sorta deflates my enthusiasm to play.

forgotaboutlaye,

It’s a Bethesda game through and through. You probably know that already if you’ve checked out the reviews, but if you liked Skyrim or FO4, and you can stomach the loadscreens, you know what you’re getting. Personally, I hoped for more but even what’s delivered has been worth it for me. The main story drags a bit in the collection of the artifacts, but seems to be picking up. Outside of that, there’s plenty of entertaining distractions.

magnor, w Seeking Constructive Dialogue on Mod Removals: Stereotyping Doesn't Help
@magnor@lemmy.magnor.ovh avatar

There is no name calling involved in calling a bigot a bigot. The whole “polite discussion” thing is at best a thin veneer of respectability slapped on an obvious dog whistle.

Free speech does not mean freedom of consequence and it is well within Nexus Mods’s rights to not tolerate transphobia on their platform. I would even call that the bare minimum, actually.

If OP really wants honest and constructive discourse they should come out and actually express an opinion instead of hiding behind the fallacy of having “constructive” Interactions about whether or not fascism is ok.

librechad,

While I appreciate your perspective, it seems there’s a misunderstanding. I’m not advocating for bigotry or hiding behind ‘polite discussion’ as a shield for harmful views. My interest is in the broader context of what content is so problematic that it requires removal and under what guidelines. Free speech indeed comes with consequences, which is why it’s important to examine those guidelines and their consistent application. This is not about condoning transphobia or any form of bigotry; it’s about discussing the thresholds and criteria that platforms like Nexus Mods use to make their moderation decisions. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for any community that wishes to maintain both openness and respect.

You talk about the “complexities of the subject matter”. There are none. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for the aforementioned mod. It was only created as a dog whistle and a beacon for bigots. Rational discussion cannot and should not be had when one party is not acting in good faith. I see no legitimate reason to dispute that ban, do you ?

Buffalobuffalo, w CD Projekt recommends starting a new game when Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 drops: 'starting fresh will enhance your overall gameplay experience'

On steam will the update automatically install? I am finally like 90% done with the main sorry line and I would rather finish it as is before starting over to do all the side quests.

LanternEverywhere,

I don't know jack about squat, but maybe there's a way to turn off automatic updates.

Lileath,
@Lileath@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Afaik it is impossible to not update the game automatically if you have internet. But it could be that it will be possible to downgrade the game to an earlier version although that depends on the dev making this function available.

Iusedtobeanadventurer,

GOG allows you to play rolled back versions of a game, through the launcher. I don’t believe steam has that capability.

Lileath,
@Lileath@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

On Steam rollbacks are possible with the ‘betas’ feature, but few developers use them. Total War: Warhammer 3 allows rollbacks after bigger updates because those typically break older saves. The option to roll back is hidden in the properties option.

theneverfox,
@theneverfox@pawb.social avatar

It does, you just have to go into the game properties menu and there’s a version option

Lenny, (edited )

Seems like you’d have to jump through hoops to avoid updating and continuing to play it while connected to Steam normally. #1 you should go into the Properties of the game and set it to not automatically update. But that won’t fix your issue, as it will trigger the update when you attempt to launch it. Also set it to not allow updates while playing the game, just in case.

Some games you can go into the steam directory and launch the .exe yourself, and that might work. There’s also Steam Offline Mode, but you may want to set it up today before the update drops and test how it works (I’ve never used it). Maybe you’ll have luck disconnecting from the internet before launching the game after the update is available. If you’re not able to completely disconnect your machine for whatever reason, you can get a program like NetLimiter and block the steam applications from accessing the internet temporarily.

If you find the appmanifest file for the game (it’s in the steamapps folder where your games are installed) and set it to read-only, Steam can’t update the game. I think it’s based on the appid so the file should be called appmanifest_1091500.acf. You can open it up like a textfile where it’ll have the name of the game inside if you wanted to make sure.

Sounds good. Looking forward to Microsoft fucking right off. Plenty of fantastic indie devs, teams, studios, and publishers out there. 👍

mindbleach, w Microsoft's next-generation Xbox pitched as a "cloud hybrid" console

Mainframes are a dead end because local hardware is so cheap and powerful. This has been the case since… basically the invention of home computing. For all the promise of cheap dumb devices that roll with generational upgrades, Google can’t even keep Chromebooks up-to-date, and it’s not like old cell phones were actively supported by PS Now. It’s asking a subscription fee that people are already paying, but instead of them also buying and powering your hardware, you have to buy and power your hardware.

All so you can… what? Fuck developers out of even more of their money? You take a third of their revenue, straight off the top. The one feature every customer says they want is a buffet system, like streaming video, where they just play whatever. But Hollywood’s currently dead stopped over the clever business model of not paying people who make all their content. The games industry has been looong overdue for a similar unionization push, and nothing would hasten that like announcing these multi-year projects for gigantic publishers would be paid at some first party’s leisure. Like it’s not enough to have appropriate compensation and future employment dangled on the basis of sales figures pulled from the marketing department’s collective fantasy. Who’s gonna put up with a model where fraudulent accounting can claim every title “lost money?” At least the cartoonists indentured to toy departments can track a dollar figure for whether their wildly popular series is allowed to continue.

It’s absolutely going to cost more per-month.

It’s unfuckinglikely to cost less per-game.

How much cheaper does this have to be, up-front, before people say fuck that and build a PC? Or just go to mobile games, which are happy to suck out their brains and their wallets? The - I still can’t believe this is the actual name - Xbox Series S only costs $300. Like a Wii. It’s an impressive feat, and it underlines how much infrastructure can be brushed aside for a small investment by consumers. The kind that locks them into buying games from your pound-of-flesh storefront, and keeps that precious third of revenue away from Sony or Valve. Which you want, even if we super don’t.

Because whatever you’ve heard about the streaming market, I guarantee it has not praised consumers for brand loyalty.

pastabatman, (edited ) w Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis turns Square Enix's best into an avalanche of money-grabbing tactics

I have room in my life for exactly one gacha game, which I don’t spend money on. Sometimes this is a fun little distraction, even though progress is slow without buying currency. This is how I felt about Record Keeper before they shut down the global version. I love FF7 so I’m giving this a shot, but it’s been a week and I’m struggling. There are so many superimposed mechanics that it feels like a new player starting a free to play game at year 5 or 6 of its life, after they’ve steadily added new mechanics, currencies, and other powercreep for years. But it hasn’t been out for years, it’s been out for a week and there are already so many things to keep track of. It feels like work.

Also, the “automatic” battle AI is VERY good. Better than I am. And you can double the speed so the battles go quicker. At first I was relieved because it meant I didn’t have to pay attention while grinding, but why am I doing this at all if I’m not even playing it?
