DeathbringerThoctar, w Starfield Update 1.7.33 – September 25, 2023

Vendors: Addressed an issue that allowed for a vendor’s full inventory to be accessible.

Does that mean the glitches to access vendor chests in Akila City and New Atlantis have been removed?

DeathbringerThoctar,

Confirmed. Vendor chests are gone/inaccessible in New Atlantis, Akila City, and Neon. You can still get outside the map in New Atlantis and Neon but the chests aren’t there.

Interesting, but he has been with them for a long time now. I'm curious if he'll have any interest at joining Tango since Shinji Mikami founded it and they share a history of mentorship and alignment on directive philosophies, or if he's more interested in doing something totally new. I'm eager to hear about it

Noite_Etion, w Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's leads have some conflicting opinions on the term JRPG
@Noite_Etion@lemmy.world avatar

he doesn’t like it as when it first started to be used it felt like it was “a discriminatory term.” It’s an understandable point of contention, as while the genre is quite popular now, go back a couple of decades you’d find plenty of people being rude about the games just because they were Japanese.

Didn’t square back in the day make “dumbed down” versions of their games for the west, because they assumed we were all too dumb to play them correctly (Looking at you FF4 easy mode). I get his point but that was discrimination too.

These are the kinds of games I love, so it’s is a win as far as I’m concerned. Hopefully they’ll start porting their games to PC faster.

cowpowered, w GOG 15th anniversary sale

I’d like to play some classic (like DOS / Win95-WinXP) games. What are some hidden gems?

MustardCabbage, (edited )

Bit hard to narrow it down… what do you enjoy? And have you played much from that era?

Just off the top of my head… simcity 2000, Ultima 4,5,6,7, the quest for glory series, civilization 1 and 2, fallout 1 and 2, xcom, master of orion… there are a ton of classics that are still worth playing.

For something perhaps a little less popular, maybe try Tex Murphy?

Edit: oh, I just remembered Commandos! if you’re a masochist, anyway. That game is hard as balls. Fun, though.

cowpowered,

I grew up with Keen to Counter-Strike 1.6 roughly so I am familiar, and nostalgic, but I haven’t played everything of course.

The Tex Murphy series is a really good one. I’ve never played any of those games. Thanks for the suggestion.

geosoco,

Great list - these are all worth checking out. Some of these games I spent way too much time playing.

I think Ultima 7 is probably one of the best RPGs of the 90s. Ultima 6 might have been the first to 'clutter your entire world with junk' game, but was both beautiful and massive for its time (though 7 did everything better).

It's hard to go wrong with most of the classic Sierra games, though the text entry ones are in a special difficulty level of their own. King's Quest series. Conquests of Camelot was enjoyable. Colonel's bequest. Space quest series.

The Kyrandia games were enjoyable but I played them not too long ago.

I remember enjoy star trek 25th anniversary.

@Kovu@lemmy.world avatar

not exactly a hidden gem, because it’s quite popular, but beneath a steel sky!

Albbi,

I’d say Duke Nukem, include Duke Nukem 3D, but those don’t seem to be on GoG.

GoodbyeBlueMonday,

Personal favorite from the era: X-Wing! There were plenty of better Star Wars flights sims in the years after it, but the original on floppy disks holds a special place in my heart.

Thalfon,

Tyrian 2000 is an easy choice given it’s permanently free on GOG. It’s a really fun old shmup with story and arcade modes, lots of difficulty settings (look up cheat codes if you need to make it harder) and a pretty solid amount of weapon customization. Still very much holds up today.

Really? I loved the BattleArmor/Elementals and other vehicles. I had a blast playing MA2 with my friends.

rebelsimile,

It’s been a very long time since I played it, but I felt like they overcomplicated it and didn’t really capture the arcade-y feel of the original.

MarcomachtKuchen, w Godot Engine hits over 50K euros per month in funding

This is great news! Can anyone explain me how the engine Managed to get 25k BEFORE the the unity Desaster? It seems like a really high number without mayor Investors

geosoco,

This isn't that strange for a number of open source projects. I don't know Godot's specifics, but lots of folks are willing to toss a few bucks via patreon or other sources. They keep a list of donors who don't mind being named in the source code, and it includes a few companies that make monthly donations. I'm sure they get a number of grants like this one from Epic.

There's a number of mastodon servers where people pay donate monthly to them.

@Sordid@sh.itjust.works avatar

More of the same? Awesome, can’t wait!

Some people were annoyed by the pawns, but personally I loved them. Their chatter can get repetitive at times, but there’s also a lot of detail and subtlety that’s easy to miss. Each pawn gains knowledge of different enemies, quests, and areas as they interact with them, and what they say depends on how well they know the subject they’re talking about. If they know nothing, they will react with surprise or curiosity, otherwise they will offer advice of varying helpfulness. One time I encountered a cockatrice, and my pawns started yelling to watch out for the griffin. At first I thought it was a bug, but after the fight I realized they had some knowledge of these bird-like enemy types but not enough, and as a result they confused one for the other. Now that’s what I call attention to detail!

conciselyverbose,

That actually sounds really awesome.

I never quite got into it, because it was just too old mechanically by the time I heard of it, but it did feel like there was potential.

Sordid,
@Sordid@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m honestly at a loss about how it’s “mechanically old” and how it could possibly be updated. It’s been a few years since I last played it, but I thought it was basically perfect and even did some things few if any other games do, such as the whole grappling/climbing system.

conciselyverbose,

Even the basics of movement and combat are super janky. It's very obviously a very old game.

    aeronmelon,

    Lemmy interpreted the year with a period as a numerical list. And since the formatting for lists is apparently fixed, larger numbers keep shifting to the left until they 're pushed off the page.
