forgotaboutlaye, w Starfield has gone gold! Preloads begin tomorrow for Xbox X|S and Windows PC and August 30 for Steam

I hope I can finish BG3 before Starfield’s release.

mnemonicmonkeys, w Valve gives Steam Remote Play a long overdue upgrade

I wonder how Valve pulled this off. Iirc, they had to reduce performance for remote play a couple years bag by switching to software acceleration when their license for hardware acceleration couldn’t be renewed

Spudwart,

Probably using VP9 or AV1 codec now and didn’t want to pay for HEVC.

VP9 and AV1 are open codecs. and AV1 > H.265

Kyoyeou,

I’ve heard of AV1 but never of VP9

nodiet,

A few web services such as YouTube use VP9. It was developed by google to have a royalty-free alternative to HEVC.

NotAMonitor, w where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?

I listen to the besties and triple click

simple, w System Requirements for ARMORED CORE: VI FIRES OF RUBICON

Nice, they’re about what I expected and are almost the exact same as Elden Ring’s requirements.

turtlepower, w TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge - Dimension Shellshock DLC | Available August 31

COWABUNGA!

I’ve been waiting for a release date ever since it was announced. I wish Steam would post a price before it becomes available so I can budget, but I don’t expect it to be very expensive.

Rynelan, w TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge - Dimension Shellshock DLC | Available August 31

Is there a price known already for this DLC?

priapus, w Gameplay Trailer - HYENAS

I got excited thinking this looked like a spiritual successor to Lawbreakers, but the movement doesn’t look as interesting.

I don’t like zero g as a gimmick unless the whole game is built around it, which this doesn’t appear to be.

Pxtl,
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

Right? I don’t need an FPS to go full Shattered Horizon like Boundary, but if you’re going to advertise zero-G it should figure larger into your game.

giant_smeeg, w Valve gives Steam Remote Play a long overdue upgrade

Can you steam windows games? Had a kid so I’m going to have to stream Starfield to my laptop

emogu,

Yep. Just set it so it launches to desktop instead of BP and you can launch anything from anywhere. There might be some finagling to do with controller input/mapping depending on the game/launcher but it should be fine in most cases.

funnystuff97,

Steam Remote Play is basically my Remote Desktop these days. Steam Link Box on the TV or Steam Link App from the phone, and I’m golden. It works surprisingly well with very little latency.

FracturedEel,

I’ve never tried to remote play what do you need for it to work

funnystuff97,

Steam and an Internet connection. That’s it. If you log in to the same Steam account on your PC and Phone/Steam Link/Steam Deck/etc, Steam will take care of everything and hook you up seamlessly. It’s worth trying out!

Swedneck,
@Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

In fact i’d say this is a significant emergent feature that has been overlooked, you can set up a windows box in a dark corner of your house and stream games to your deck/laptop/phone/fridge without worrying about noise or compatibility.

I feel like valve needs to hire a guy to just sit around the office and occasionally go “hey uh, sounds like we could just polish up this edge case and market it as a rather mind-blowing feature?”

apprehensively_human, w Valve gives Steam Remote Play a long overdue upgrade

Hopefully this includes bug fixes and more compatibility with linux?

I’ve been trying and failing to get my Debian host to stream to an Nvidia Shield Pro

Weylandyuta, w System Requirements for ARMORED CORE: VI FIRES OF RUBICON

Hopefully it runs okay on steam deck. I have a nice desktop at home but I’m usually out of town working and I use my steam deck as my main rig these days until I go back home.

Deconceptualist, w where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?

It’s been many years and I’ve found very few outlets that consistently resonate with me.

In terms of review quality, I think the best one is Easy Allies (formed by folks who used to work at GameTrailers). They match video clips with a well-written script and professional narration so perfectly. You can tell they haven’t just thoroughly played the game under review, but they know its history among the genre. But IMO they focus too much on console, where I’m PC-only.

I’m also a Linux gamer now. Gaming On Linux and Boiling Steam are good for that, but I’m open to more.

Imagine pre ordering a game in 2023.

dan1101,

I don’t know if I will preorder but I will buy Game Pass for a month to try it out. And I’m interested enough to try it out first day.

It’s gonna be on gamepass at launch??

    Looks like Gamepass gets to play Sep 6, so it isn’t the “premium” edition that lets you play Sep 1. Oh well another 5 days won’t kill me.

    ETA: Microsoft continues to do dumb things with pricing. Standard edition is $70, Premium edition is $100. Yikes, but ok. However, they sell a Premium edition upgrade for $35. Why does Standard + Premium upgrade cost more than Premium?

    _waffle_,
    @_waffle_@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Man, I really do not like the whole “pay more to play early” nonsense. I can wait the extra days but having to avoid the Internet will be annoying

    ChaoticGood007,

    Likely they think that the upgrade is mainly (maybe exclusively) for people playing via game pass. The $5 more is because you didn’t buy the game to start with. They did the same with FH5 when that launched I believe.

    FeelzGoodMan420,

    Nah gamepass is totally fine. It’s the thought of pre ordering that makes my brain hirt.

    dan1101,

    I’m with you on pre-ordering but GTA and Elder Scrolls games are my two exceptions. Not sure how I feel about Starfield, should be similar to an Elder Scrolls game since there is no online stuff to go wrong.

    FeelzGoodMan420,

    My whole hearted advice is to wait for reviews before ever buying a game. Therenis really absolutely zero reason to ever pre order. The pre order bonus skins or whatever are playing on your emotions. People need to resist!

    YellowGas,
    @YellowGas@lemmy.world avatar

    Haven’t preordered a game in at least 15 years. I preordered this one. I want that juicy September 1st playtime. Haven’t been this excited for a game since I don’t know when.

    Podcast wise: Rebel FM, though after all these years it’s more just to catch up with them than the actual talking points, but always enjoyable.

    For deep dives into specific games Cane & Rinse (full disclosure I have met and consider friends some of the guys involved).

    For Indie Games, The Sausage Factory by Chris O’Regan, which these days is hosted by Cane And Rinse is a great way to hear directly from the game devs themselves.

    djsoren19, w where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?

    I get all my news from Lyle Rath on Pregame Discharge. He’s told me it’s the only videogame show, so I’m surprised to hear about all these other shows.
