It doesn't work the same here as with B2C products. Excluding hobby developers who wouldn't been hit either way. most people paying for Unity are trying to make a living and a company eradically throwing the pricing model around is not a good look when there are altrnatives around.
People can and will go to alternatives for new projects. Unreal, if you want a marketplace and impressive 3D and Godot if you want FOSS. Not to mention the otber game engines.
It's about money here, in some cades not little amount of money.
That implies they’re doing something good for us. This is like giving your friend a box of smokes and then offering them chewing gum to hit the nicotine fix. It didn’t help, but I guess I have some gum now.
Successful in terms of cash, which I’d imagine is the most common metric people look for. Now whether gamers will look back on bg3 or d4 more fondly? You decide!!
“Okay, I know you weren’t too happy about my plan to retroactively charge you for every mile you drive in the car I already sold you… What if I told you, I’ll only charge you for a maximum of… uh… 30,000 miles per year?”
You understand people like you are DIRECTLY the cause of games these days sucking ass right? You guys buy games before they’re out and then buy up all their microtransaction bullshit, so why would they ever worry about improving or trying any harder when they know they have guaranteed money in the bank? Until people like you quit throwing money at this stuff, it’s only going to continue to decline.
I didn’t say I personally was being hurt by you, I said you are being hurt by you, I’m not affected by this directly. I don’t buy games until they’ve been out for a year at least and I don’t buy microtransactions regardless of the amount of money in my account, on principle. So you’re only serving to destroy your own future gaming. Also, I’ve never seen someone tell someone else to get a job that wasn’t secretly just living off their parents. Have a good one.
If you don’t mind, could you explain why one would want to buy these kinds of microtransactions, especially if you don’t even enjoy the game? I just cant understand it, but obviously people enjoy it or the business model wouldn’t work.
I was with you until you said diablo 3 had one of the most compelling stories. I don’t think diablo games in general are good at storytelling. But I do agree with you that the d4 story kinda sucked
Probably enough people to keep Unity afloat. Let's be honest, who's going to reskill their gamedevs to learn Godot or some other game engine? Decision makers will probably spend more money on trying to find ways around the problem than actually solving it aka using another game engine.
It's what they do.
For what it’s worth, I am one of these people. I’d already watched a couple of streamers play random sidequests, but when I saw the early game I just couldn’t stomach playing any further.
I’ve always been a fan, but no way I’m buying a second system just for Bethesda games.
Yes, I bought a switch to play Zelda, but that’s where I draw the line.
Skyrim has released on basically every platform that exists, I have to assume Starfield, and ES6, will eventually release on PS5. That is just too much money to leave on the table.
On the other hand, Demon Souls was spawned out of a failed PS exclusive to go head to head against Oblivion, and I’d dare say the souls series have given more to gaming than the past decade of Bethesda releases.
