toxicbubble, w Dragon's Dogma 2 brings back all the joy of Capcom's 2012 cult hit with few real changes

haven’t played much but the original felt a little uncanny, like the characters have no personality. otherwise, one of the best combat systems, customization, & controls i ever played. could do without the climbing mechanic, it takes some getting used to but feels like shadow of the colossus in a way

I have big hopes for an open source future.

WarmSoda, (edited ) w Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's leads have some conflicting opinions on the term JRPG

It started during the NES and SNES days. JRPGs are a completely different style than western RPGs, that’s why the term was used.

InRlyehDreaming,

Same, been playing JRPGs since the Super Nintendo days. I’ve never seen it used as a derogatory or discriminatory term in message boards, just an easy way to differentiate western and Japanese subgenres when discussing RPGs.

I enjoy these games and their premise but their dedication to not giving a shit about PC players is a real turn off.

Pea666, w New Star Wars Jedi Game Is in the Works, Cal Kestis Voice Actor Reveals

Good for him and good for the fans.

I’m pretty sad that these games aren’t my cup of tea. By all accounts they should be right up my alley but for some reason I just couldn’t get into them. I was hoping for a spiritual successor to the Jedi Knight games I guess.

Still, decent quality single player games are a welcome addition to the market.

More of the same? Awesome, can’t wait!

Some people were annoyed by the pawns, but personally I loved them. Their chatter can get repetitive at times, but there’s also a lot of detail and subtlety that’s easy to miss. Each pawn gains knowledge of different enemies, quests, and areas as they interact with them, and what they say depends on how well they know the subject they’re talking about. If they know nothing, they will react with surprise or curiosity, otherwise they will offer advice of varying helpfulness. One time I encountered a cockatrice, and my pawns started yelling to watch out for the griffin. At first I thought it was a bug, but after the fight I realized they had some knowledge of these bird-like enemy types but not enough, and as a result they confused one for the other. Now that’s what I call attention to detail!

conciselyverbose,

That actually sounds really awesome.

I never quite got into it, because it was just too old mechanically by the time I heard of it, but it did feel like there was potential.

Sordid,
@Sordid@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m honestly at a loss about how it’s “mechanically old” and how it could possibly be updated. It’s been a few years since I last played it, but I thought it was basically perfect and even did some things few if any other games do, such as the whole grappling/climbing system.

conciselyverbose,

Even the basics of movement and combat are super janky. It's very obviously a very old game.

Arael15th, w whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
@Arael15th@sh.itjust.works avatar

In LOZ: Breath of the Wild, I didn’t think to check if you could use the Sheikah Slate on Eventide Isle (where they take away all your items and clothes). I’m proud to say I beat that challenge with ZERO tools!

fidodo,

In totk I wanted to explore as early as possible so I didn’t know the glider was still in the game until I got to a tower without it. I just figured with all the new travel options they figured it wasn’t needed anymore

amrawr, w whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?

Path of exile. Had no idea about builds and tried to just play casually lol

2nd character went a lot more smoothly

Bjoern_Tantau,

Honestly, by now I’ve come to hate games where you can’t figure out how to play them from the game itself. It seems like nowadays you can’t play without a whole community figuring out what’s currently the meta way to play.

relyn, w New Star Wars Jedi Game Is in the Works, Cal Kestis Voice Actor Reveals

I’m sure the PC version will run just as poorly as the first two games too…. Damn I wish they would slow down and revisit some of the core elements of the game like shader compilation stuttering and very jarring animations which both make the games feel so jerky.

RavenFellBlade, w whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I was almost done with the game before I realized you leveled up in camps and inns. Game went from really hard to pushover easy in 5 minutes.

TheWozardOfIz,

That combat system is dope once you get like 25 hours in lol

there1snospoon, w New Star Wars Jedi Game Is in the Works, Cal Kestis Voice Actor Reveals

Absolutely loved the story and mechanics of the game. I just hope the next one has fewer bugs

kurcatovium, w Why does everyone swear so much in The Witcher 3?

It’s because in Sapkowski’s universe witchers are mutants and normal people hate them for being different (and because they are scared too). Basically racism.

Abrslam, w whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?

I beat the original dark souls without realizing there were different weight thresholds for rolling. I fat rolled the entire game. Also didn’t realize boosting vigor was important for hp. I did 99% strength/stamina and only as much dex as required to weild my weapons.

sanosuke001,

Didn’t realize holding dodge would make me sprint in Elden Ring for like ten hours! oof

07Chess, w whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?

I started playing Pokémon Red before I even knew how to read. I had no idea how to save and just assumed I would find a save point eventually like a bunch of other games. I have no idea how many times I dejectedly had to turn off the GameBoy halfway through Mt. Moon. I was convinced the save spot had to be on the other side.

Tobiasisahawk,

When I first played I didn’t know what Pokemon centers were. Everytime I needed to heal I ran all the way back to Mom’s house in palette town

schmidtster, w Is it possible that in the future there will be games available on Xbox Game Pass that cannot be played without joining Game Pass? Phil Spencer: No. That's not it. What we want to offer is choice.

Bull shit, one of their conditions for a game to be on game pass is it can’t be on another streaming service. How is that choice…?

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

You’re confusing Game Pass for PS+

schmidtster,
PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Sure. Take Sonys word for something they are doing.

schmidtster,

They all do it, but one has publicly claimed they don’t while the other admits they do. Everyone else hasn’t claimed either way.

So who’s the bad guys here? Sony for pointing it out or MS for continuing to lie about it?
