Duamerthrax,

Marathon (1994) has several call outs to the player when the AI giving you mission briefing calls the PC out for not caring and just wanting to shoot things. There’s a lot of meta commentary in that series.

Duamerthrax,

I stopped playing TF2 when I kept getting popups about having too many unopened loot crates or some shit.

Duamerthrax,

Corporate wants you to find the difference between these two pictures.

Duamerthrax,

They’ve never made good games. They sometimes allowed one of their devs to make a good game when they weren’t looking, but no one is perfect.

Duamerthrax,

They had a reputation for buying better companies to own the IPs and gutting the teams before the late 2000s. It’s sort of cathartic seeing that happen to them now, but not really because all the shitheels who made those decisions will probably be getting a nice payout while the actually workers will just get kicked to the curb.

Duamerthrax,

At least he didn’t punch anyone this time.

Duamerthrax, (edited )

I once swore infront a bunch of other adults in a non-work, but professional setting and someone stopped me to point it out. I paused, looked around for any kids and when I didn’t see any, pointed out it was fine. They were on the conservative side, but I’m not bending at the knee for that shit.

Duamerthrax,

Must have slipped through the cracks.

Duamerthrax,

Luck and a good review from a relevant reviewer. The devs of Nightmare Reaper credit Civvie11’s reviews of their game to the multifold increase of sales after they sent him a redeem code. And that’s not the only game that he’s helped out.

Duamerthrax,

Most of those devs are probably freelancers or from hired studios doing esoteric work. It’s still crazy to see these numbers when most of the games I play are indie and have tiny credit listings. 450 people could make at least ten of the games I play.

Duamerthrax,

They were always going to go after every 18+ game and then every queer game under the guise that it’s corrupting to youth. The fact that you’re confused about that is part of their plan.

Duamerthrax,

Here’s something. No way of knowing which games they’ll go after next.

Battlefield 6 players are crying out for a 'real' server browser, and it's about time we demanded the basic FPS feature that Call of Duty killed (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

I’ll be honest: I think matchmaking is just a better experience for how I like to play FPS games. I never got a sense of “community” from sticking with a given server; I would come to find something like it via Discord years later but not just from frequenting a given game server. My server browser experience was mostly...

Duamerthrax,

It’s very simple. If it doesn’t have a Server Browser, has MTX, has Gacha, has Rootkits, is Online Only/No LAN, or is made by any of the AAA studios, I don’t play it.

Duamerthrax,

Oh no, whatever will I do with my time if I can’t play with literal children.

What game sequel ruined a beloved franchise or character for you? angielski

You fell in love with a game and it's characters, sunk hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours into it. It became a comforting, immensely satisfying part of your daily life. Then you heard a sequel was coming and got really hyped but when it came out it was utter rubbish......

Duamerthrax,

It’s explained in the game that the Covenant faction you fight is a splinter faction. There’s more details in the books, I didn’t have problems when I played it.

Duamerthrax,

Not necessarily beloved, but I hated the tone and genre shift between Jak and Daxter and Jak 2. I hated the driving sections so much, that that’s where I put the game down. Looking back, I guess they wanted to make a different game, but had to make a sequel?

Duamerthrax, (edited )

I never really worried to much about continuity errors. The worse is Halsey being in two different places during the events of Fall of Reach book and the game Reach. The Forerunner books actually smoothed that stuff out by explaining when huge amounts of materials pass though Slipspace or go far too fast through Slipspace(remember that crystal?), temporal errors build up and you get a timeline split. Unlike most scifi timeline splits though, in Halo, the lines can reconverge and Reconcile without most people realizing it happen. Halo 5 made a little nod to that with Halsey’s “Casual Reconciliation” line. Somewhere in the Halo universe, some bookkeep is pulling their hair out trying to figure out how Halsey departed Reach twice.

[Update: Valve Responds] Mastercard Denies Pressuring Steam To Censor 'NSFW' Games (kotaku.com) angielski

Updated: 8/1/2025 4:18 p.m. ET: In a statement to Kotaku, a spokesperson for Valve said that while Mastercard did not communicate with it directly, concerns did come through payment processor and banking intermediaries. They said payment processors rejected Valve’s current guidelines for moderating illegal content on Steam,...

Game reviewers boycott publisher CGE, for publishing more Harry Potter branded products (boardgamewire.com) angielski

CGE faced an immediate online backlash after unveiling Codenames: Back to Hogwarts on social media site BlueSky on July 23, with the announcement receiving hundreds of responses attacking the decision before the Codenames account locked comments, and switched off the function allowing users to share the post alongside their own...

Historically, HP fans have proven to have bad taste in media.

Duamerthrax,

Don’t waste your time with change.org. Call your CC company directly and complain. Not email. Call.

Duamerthrax,

Change.org and email can be ignored automatically. Calling them costs them call center money.

Duamerthrax,

If you really want to sign the petition, fine. Just call them before doing that.

Duamerthrax,

I think Croteam has been able to have moderate success over the years, but being based in Eastern Europe might make them insulated from issues. Devolver only recently bought them, but they seem to be one of the few good publishers. I at least didn’t see their name on the Video Games Europe member list that’s opposed to SKGs.

Duamerthrax,

It’s a popular streamer game, which means long gaps where nothing happens.

Duamerthrax,

We have had that exact model for decades. Hosting companies use to and probably still offer rack space for arena shooters. The main company managed the master server, which was just a listing of IP addresses, but there were only ever a few official game servers with defaults loaded.

Duamerthrax,

I wouldn’t be surprised if the game industry isn’t also using bots to inflate the numbers to make people procrastinating not feel the need to contribute and make the petition look less valid.

Duamerthrax,

Major game publishers aren’t known for their good ideas.

Duamerthrax,

Hedon, Cultic, Zortch I think were all solo devs.

Duamerthrax, (edited )

protections we put in place to secure players’ data, remove illegal content, and combat unsafe community content would not exist

Nanny State BS. If someone runs a private server, it’s their responsibility to moderate it.

and would leave rights holders liable.

No it wouldn’t.

In addition, many titles are designed from the ground-up to be online-only

Unreal Tournament games are online or multiplayer only games. Even though Epic shut down the master servers, you can modify the .ini file to redirect to a community server. “Online-only” translates to predatory monetization models.

Duamerthrax, (edited )

Doom, Build Engine games, Marathon. I can still play those games, but even if Bungie faux-Marathon ever comes out, I wouldn’t be able to play it after a few years. One of the biggest turnoffs to these As-A-Service games is time limited events. I don’t want to feel nostalgic for something and not be able to replay it. Between the discussions on Hell Divers II events and the Sony fuckary, I’m glad I passed. Fuck, I remember my hype for Hawken died when I saw it was going to be f2p.

Duamerthrax, (edited )

I still kinda want Microsoft to buy Activision Blizzard, but not for altruistic reasons.

Duamerthrax,

Halo 4 was mostly good, especially the story, but they listened too closely to the complainers and scrapped the story line. They haven’t been able to commit to villain. Didact? Killed off at the end of 4, and then resurrected and killed off in a comic. Jul 'Mdama? Introduced and explored in Spartan Ops and books/comics. Killed off in the beginning of Halo 5. Cortana? Resurrected/Introduced as a villain in Halo 5 and killed off between 5 and 6(Infinite). Atriox? Introduced in Halo Wars 2 “killed off” between the opening cutscene of Halo 6 and the first level. Escharum(Atriox lite), Introduced in 6 and killed off in 6. Harbinger? Introduced in 6 and killed off in 6. But wait, Atriox isn’t really dead and he’s totally going to come back in Halo 7 and be a long term villain. For real this time.

Duamerthrax,

Well, the Gravemind is definitely not dead as it’s mind resides in either the Domain or an adjacent dimension. Hell, the Flood aren’t even sterilized from known infection locations. But like you said, the factions all have a clear purpose. Even the Flood in Halo 1, before the Gravemind was even introduced, were working towards a goal though consuming the minds of the species it encountered and fixing the Covenant ship. Hearing Cortana say that the Flood were fixing that ship was chilling. Zombies repairing an FLT capable spacecraft?!

A lot of my disappointment in 5 was how irrelevant and misleading the advertisement was. Nothing even remotely similar to this happens in the game. Hunt the Truth had so much better writing then 5 did. Let those people write a spinoff game.

Duamerthrax,

Shows how much I care about the output of either company.

Duamerthrax,

Wings of Redemption makes it work… ok. He doesn’t make it work at all.

Duamerthrax,

You should only be granted copyright protections if you can guarantee the copyrighted material can become public domain after the time period ends. This would involve giving the government a copy of all source code and assets to preserve securely. This should be a flat policy for all copyrighted material, so 3rd party involvement wouldn’t complicate things.

Duamerthrax,

That’s another debate, but if a company ever closed and no one claimed the IP, it could be released early.

Duamerthrax,

17 minutes.

But in short, PirateSoftware had a fall from grace for narcissism and with his previous opposition to the petition, became a “villain” to unite against.

Duamerthrax,

Egotism often translates to charisma and confidence, but falls apart eventually.

Also, a reminder, the “Con” in con-artist is short for confidence.

Duamerthrax,

Keep pushing. There are probably people using VPNs to sign the petition and those will get purged. Either from idiots who don’t know better or AAA studios trying to get people to stop now that it’s reached the goal. This is true for both the UK and EU petitions.

Duamerthrax,

And the healthcare Congress provides.

Duamerthrax,

You need to find a reviewer who focuses on indie you jive with. They’re funnel points for these sorts of things.

I like boomershooters, so Civvie11 and MandaloreGaming are my gotos.

Duamerthrax,

It’s probably a reference to that article.

Duamerthrax,

Too little too late, but his onlyfangs(or whatever it’s called) drama really cut into his CCV. He tried beating Neuro-sama’s hype train on twitch, failed, and made a bunch of petty excuses. He can’t maintain his facade anymore.

Duamerthrax,

If it wasn’t obvious already, it would appear that he and I have very different takes on what makes games fun. Has he ever played a video game before always on internet connections? Well, he worked for Blizzard, so we can assume some disconnect between him and what players want.

Duamerthrax,

He’s opposed to it. He speaks with a very clam, professional voice, so people like to believe him. I get skeeved out by it personally. Honestly, we shouldn’t be taking advice from former Blizzard dev anyway. Nothing that comes from that company has ever been respectful to players or even human decency.

Duamerthrax,

“You think you do, but you don’t!”

Duamerthrax,

Judging from the “quality” output from the company, he was just a yesman telling his bosses what they wanted to hear.
