I think Croteam has been able to have moderate success over the years, but being based in Eastern Europe might make them insulated from issues. Devolver only recently bought them, but they seem to be one of the few good publishers. I at least didn’t see their name on the Video Games Europe member list that’s opposed to SKGs.
We have had that exact model for decades. Hosting companies use to and probably still offer rack space for arena shooters. The main company managed the master server, which was just a listing of IP addresses, but there were only ever a few official game servers with defaults loaded.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the game industry isn’t also using bots to inflate the numbers to make people procrastinating not feel the need to contribute and make the petition look less valid.
protections we put in place to secure players’ data, remove illegal content, and combat unsafe community content would not exist
Nanny State BS. If someone runs a private server, it’s their responsibility to moderate it.
and would leave rights holders liable.
No it wouldn’t.
In addition, many titles are designed from the ground-up to be online-only
Unreal Tournament games are online or multiplayer only games. Even though Epic shut down the master servers, you can modify the .ini file to redirect to a community server. “Online-only” translates to predatory monetization models.
Doom, Build Engine games, Marathon. I can still play those games, but even if Bungie faux-Marathon ever comes out, I wouldn’t be able to play it after a few years. One of the biggest turnoffs to these As-A-Service games is time limited events. I don’t want to feel nostalgic for something and not be able to replay it. Between the discussions on Hell Divers II events and the Sony fuckary, I’m glad I passed. Fuck, I remember my hype for Hawken died when I saw it was going to be f2p.
Halo 4 was mostly good, especially the story, but they listened too closely to the complainers and scrapped the story line. They haven’t been able to commit to villain. Didact? Killed off at the end of 4, and then resurrected and killed off in a comic. Jul 'Mdama? Introduced and explored in Spartan Ops and books/comics. Killed off in the beginning of Halo 5. Cortana? Resurrected/Introduced as a villain in Halo 5 and killed off between 5 and 6(Infinite). Atriox? Introduced in Halo Wars 2 “killed off” between the opening cutscene of Halo 6 and the first level. Escharum(Atriox lite), Introduced in 6 and killed off in 6. Harbinger? Introduced in 6 and killed off in 6. But wait, Atriox isn’t really dead and he’s totally going to come back in Halo 7 and be a long term villain. For real this time.
Well, the Gravemind is definitely not dead as it’s mind resides in either the Domain or an adjacent dimension. Hell, the Flood aren’t even sterilized from known infection locations. But like you said, the factions all have a clear purpose. Even the Flood in Halo 1, before the Gravemind was even introduced, were working towards a goal though consuming the minds of the species it encountered and fixing the Covenant ship. Hearing Cortana say that the Flood were fixing that ship was chilling. Zombies repairing an FLT capable spacecraft?!
A lot of my disappointment in 5 was how irrelevant and misleading the advertisement was. Nothing even remotely similar to this happens in the game. Hunt the Truth had so much better writing then 5 did. Let those people write a spinoff game.
You should only be granted copyright protections if you can guarantee the copyrighted material can become public domain after the time period ends. This would involve giving the government a copy of all source code and assets to preserve securely. This should be a flat policy for all copyrighted material, so 3rd party involvement wouldn’t complicate things.
But in short, PirateSoftware had a fall from grace for narcissism and with his previous opposition to the petition, became a “villain” to unite against.
Keep pushing. There are probably people using VPNs to sign the petition and those will get purged. Either from idiots who don’t know better or AAA studios trying to get people to stop now that it’s reached the goal. This is true for both the UK and EU petitions.
Too little too late, but his onlyfangs(or whatever it’s called) drama really cut into his CCV. He tried beating Neuro-sama’s hype train on twitch, failed, and made a bunch of petty excuses. He can’t maintain his facade anymore.
If it wasn’t obvious already, it would appear that he and I have very different takes on what makes games fun. Has he ever played a video game before always on internet connections? Well, he worked for Blizzard, so we can assume some disconnect between him and what players want.
The EU Citizens petition to stop killing games is not looking good. It’s shy of halfway where it needs to be, on a very high threshold, and it’s over in a month and change....
He’s opposed to it. He speaks with a very clam, professional voice, so people like to believe him. I get skeeved out by it personally. Honestly, we shouldn’t be taking advice from former Blizzard dev anyway. Nothing that comes from that company has ever been respectful to players or even human decency.
Talk to the subsistence farm in Africa who’s annual rainfall is getting disrupted or Islanders like the people of Tuvalu who have to evacuate because their homes are too close to sea. How much CO2 have they put into the atmosphere?
Is Dark Ages really more grounded? What the hell does that mean here?
I had issues with Eternal demanding I use the weapons the way the devs intended, but when I saw parrying was a central part in Dark Ages, it was an easy decision to wait. Icon of Sin was peak because it was chaos management. I managed the Marauders, but just couldn’t be assed to beat the Dark Lord.
Good thing the indie scene is making their own Doom likes.
Half disagree. They’ve taken a lot of risks in the past with designs that other companies wouldn’t have. Things that didn’t always pan out well and became the butts of jokes.
But yes, they’ve been a litigious company with ties to the Yakuza that people frequently forget as well.
We’ve all played them. Backtracking, not knowing where to go. Going back and forth. Name some of these games from your memory. I’ll start: Final Fantasy XIII-2, RE1
Halo 1 was never difficult with Cortana telling you were to go and the waypoint on screen. Assault on the Control/Two Betrayals has arrows on the hallway floors and I never got turned around in The Library.
If you really want labyrinth level design from Bungie, the Marathon series is were it’s at and completely explains why there’s so much hand holding in Halo CE.
While I feel sorry for her as a worker, I do not feel sorry for her as a writer.
Live Service writing for AAA studios has got to be the most disposable form of fiction. I can find old short stories from magazines that closed close to a century ago, but I can’t play the Destiny series from start to finish today?

He wasn’t a deadbeat dad. He was a workaholic and distance father, but he provided for his kids.
He was a workaholic and expected the same level of commitment from his employees, not more. He frequently reanimated whole scenes while his eyes would allow it. Difficult to work with? Sure. Cunt? Nah.
His work consistently had anti-war, pro-environmental and pro-worker/socialism themes. He made something more then “good anime”.
I’m wondering what shit takes you think he has or why they should outweigh his other accomplishments.
btw, Miyazaki grew up around his uncle’s plane factory. That’s why he has an appreciation of flying scenes and why he made Wind Raises, which really isn’t pro-war when you start dissecting it.
edit: He also has some of the best written female characters, each unique and sensible for the story.
The national government in Japan is a pile geriatrics who don’t want to do anything. Pretty much every prefecture(think state or provenance) raised the age of consent to 18 a long time ago.
I tried playing Harvest Moon on the SNES today and having played Stardew Valley for hours, I thought I'd try and see how tolerable the original Harvest Moon was in comparison. I know and understand it is unfair because there's a 20 year gap between Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, while also discrediting Harvest Moon's later...
The remake for the first game is so actuate to the original, you can use the old walkthough guides to beat it.
You could tell the ending was cut short for time with SS2. It would be nice if they took some creative liberties to bring it closer to what it was originally suppose to be.
AI techbros will have you believe that you can solve world hunger, cure cancer
And yet they don’t. Well, we already know how to solve world hunger. Just not a willingness.
Researchers are using AI as an additional tool for discovering new drugs, but the techbros and pharmabros are going to be over charging for any new cures even if they become cheaper to discover.
