The assisted reload was also in the first game (notably for the recoilless rifle also featured here) and requires a great deal of coordination. A great co-op mechanic with high rewards when playing it right.
I’d be happy if F-Zero GX was ported to the switch. I grew up playing F-Zero on snes and really enjoyed 64, but I never owned a gamecube cause I gor into playstations… anyway I’ve heard good things about GX and wanna play it, but I’m not buying a gamecube just for that
A remaster with some QoL improvements would be much appreciated. I mean. A straight poet would be great, upgraded graphics would be amazing, but some tweaks would be really nice. Some of it just hasn’t aged well, especially the grinding needed for some stuff like unlocking parts. I’ll gladly take a port, but a little extra would be nice.
This almost fell under the radar today in the wake of the Paper Mario TTYD hype. Given that Super Mario RPG is the predecessor to Paper Mario in a number of ways, it’s an interesting time to be a fan of this type of game.
I am surprised this is coming out so close to TTYD, but more surprised they announced TTYD this far out. I might have considered grabbing RPG, but now I’m just going to wait for TTYD.
I think F-Zero 99 is way for Nintendo to gauge the temperature. If the this game ends up getting a big player base and it stays consistent, then they will likely see that proper F-Zero game should be developed.
I remember a while back hearing Nintendo higher ups stating that they weren’t sure the popularity was there for a new game. This is there way to checking.
I thought the same thing but it sucks because I really want a new F-Zero but I can’t see myself playing this a lot. It’s fun for a little bit but just too chaotic for me.
I think that is highly wishful thinking. I’m sure Nintendo has been going through the whole back catalog to find ways to make a battle royale of a game. Once someone saw the risk/reward that F-zero had with boosting depleting your life energy, it becomes a big an instant click. Plus, the racing environment allows all 99 players to interact in a way that none of the other games allowed (the other games were merely sending garbage to the other player.). F-Zero 99 is a good concept for the developers of the 99 games to try and apply. It wasn’t designed as a test to see if the community actually cared about the franchise.
Miyamoto has said that the reason we haven’t seen F-Zero again is that the developers haven’t found a way to differentiate the series in a way that will attract players. Although I feel like any of us could come up with a way (HD, Online play, randomized equipment drops,), Nintendo is convinced that these are not strong enough to justify the development cost.
Having played the old Price of Persia, this just looks like a random platformer and not really a prince of Persia game. Kinda disappointed. Will check it out when it goes on sale
Side order and mariokart be looking good. league expanding outside of their MOBA and lore expansion is cute. Probably looking to capitalism off the show. Contra looks good even if it’s not “new”. Gf texted me demanding SpyXAnya.
But Jesus there was like 3 or 4 Turn Based RPGs with medieval settings and sprite artwork. In competition with Fire Emblem how is there this many? Good for competition I guess.
These remakes (Luigi mansion 2) are great and all but it really shows that if the cartridge slot had been 3ds sized from the beginning they wouldn’t be able to sell you these games again. LM2 isn’t that old to need a remake but they EoL’d the 3ds so here we are. Pretty diverse announcement set.
Highly recommend 13 Sentinels if you’re a fan of visual novels. Simply beautiful with great music and characters. If you’re not a fan of VNs though, the RTS gameplay is so minimal that I wouldn’t bother. It’s well-designed and enjoyable but barely 10% of the runtime.
I think it’s kind of a genre revival. The genre was very under represented for a long time, so probably many devs started working on such games, and then ended up releasing them all close to each other.
I still have the copy I bought with some lawn mowing money in 2005. It’s aged very well. I’m excited for some of the younger folks to get to play this absolute masterpiece.
I wonder if they’ll be removing Danger Mario as a possible strat.
They remove my glass cannon build, and we take to the steets.
But I don’t think they’d change any of the core mechanics. Maybe add some side ones, like a boss rush mode, like what they added to the Mario RPG remake.
My 1-in-a-million prediction? Fast travel mechanic. Mario folds himself up into an envelope and mails himself to a town he’s already gotten a crystal star from. (Yes, I know we already have the underground pipes, just let me believe.)
Unicorn Overlord looks good. Not many tactics RPGs have scratched the FF tactics itch for me (Symphony of War hits the spot but playing that on steam).
There are third party memory card solutions out there... essentially they hijack the cart slot and allow you to stick in a standard micro SD card to use as storage.
I have two of the standard PSV memory cards (I think a 4gb one that came with my Assassin's Creed bundle, and another 32gb one that I spent like $100 on when the finally dropped the prices into a realm that was at least within viewing distance of sanity), but being able to stick in a cheap-o micro SD card and have ALL the games I purchased (and some extras...) is pretty great.
And because I feel like I'm legally obligated to say this as a Vita owner, hacking the thing was the best decision I made outside of buying the handheld in the first place, when it comes to the PSV. It's way easier now than when I initially wanted to try (and was too scared to do so when the handheld was still being supported), and as long as you follow up-to-date instructions you should be golden.
The way they shadow dropped Metroid Prime 1 Remaster, I am expecting them to release all 3 Metroid Prime games before 4. So, no release of Metroid Prime 2 remaster is a bit sad. It either means they aren’t going to release remasters of a whole trilogy, or that Prime 4 is much further away than we hope.
