As long as I can punch the arms off of my enemies I am happy

iamdefinitelyoverthirteen,

As long as I have to be “mostly dead” a few dozen times before I can survive the easiest fight, I am happy.

ButtermilkBiscuit,

Remember the first time I played I went to fight a goat and got absolutely brutalized. I loved kenshi, but I can understand why some didn’t. Building a huge base a pumping out hash was my crowning achievement. Then the religious freaks showed up and my tower guys killed everyone. Later I found some band of 30 mis-programed bots that I would take with me and they killed anything around me. Ahh…such a great game.

Hell yeah. This will help scratch that Stalker itch while the newest one gets a little more time in the oven.

@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I think even in back 2012 an argument could be made quite easily, but it’s a shame Roger Ebert didn’t live long enough to see some of the games released over the past decade that quite convincingly demonstrate how video games can indeed be art.

I agreed with him very often but that was one instance of him having an inexplicably bad take.

EarlGrey, do games w Morrowind-inspired indie RPG Ardenfall releases in early access this year

Okay how can you be Morrowind inspi-watches trailer well fuck.

Not that I’m complaining. Morrowind has been my number 1 open world RPG to this day. Nothing has come close to scratching that itch.

araneae, (edited ) do gaming w Make your complaints heard about bad games, says Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah, but "your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty"

GAMERS ON THE WELL MANNERED PUPPY-GIRL ALPHA CHAD FEDERATED REDDIT ALTERNATIVE WHEN YOU BEG THEM NOT TO BE TOXIC TO THE DEVELOPER (THEY WILL DEFUSE THEIR SHITTINESS/THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OR TAKE A TIRED DEVELOPER’S PLEAS GRACEFULLY)

GROW UP fuckers. The game sucks, I’ve played it. I’ve also been playing increasinly bad Dragon Age games long enough to know ITS EA, ITS ALWAYS BEEN EA. Everything they touch turns to shit. Veilguard was a live service team-based wave survival game like ME3 multiplayer until eight months before launch and you can reeeaaally tell.

I don’t give a fuck about blue haired devs, pronouns, none of that shit. If you do, grow up. Yes, Bioware is a skeleton crew with hack writers and a captain hired to go down with the ship and get the game out the door… BECAUSE OF EA.

ARE YOU JUST NOW PLAYING VIDEO GAMES FOR THE FIRST TIME? DID YOU NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PUBLISHERS IN GENERAL?

Gamergate’s still fucking going on. Bitching about Anita Sarkeesian in 2025 in response to a dev begging to stop being harassed, PATHETIC.

ProdigalFrog, do gaming w Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 players actually want less authenticity, if this infinite shoe mod is any indication

When I played the first game, I eventually become a bit annoyed at how some systems worked, such as how frequently henry became hungry, so I downloaded a mod that extended the time between meals, which made the experience a bit more realistic and less annoying.

Though on the topic of degrading equipment, I kinda like shoes wearing out of it’s not too frequent, because for some odd reason I find it enjoyable to have to plan trips around such limitations 😄

MarcomachtKuchen, (edited ) do games w Frostpunk creators cancel "Project 8" and lay off staff amid concerns that "narrative-driven, story-rich games" don't sell

Ok guys valid points from everyone here. But who here has bought the latest 11bit Studios games? And I’m not talking about Frostpunk 2. I’m taking about Indika, The alters (not out yet, my bad) , The Traumathurge, Creatures of Ava ,… all of these games seemed like really cool things to me, sadly I could not afford them.

CaptPretentious,

The Alters isn’t out yet. Expected release Q1 2025. It’s on my wish list because I love the demo.

Indika they were just the publisher. On top of which, maybe has a story that not everyone is interested in. I watched these guys play it, youtu.be/MuiHtAYOqgI and while it’s creative and it’s overall a fantastic game, is not one I’m going to play myself.

The Thaumaturge, again they are just the publisher. I hadn’t even heard of this one which means as the publisher they did a terrible job marketing it.

MarcomachtKuchen,

Thank you for the correction. The alters is indeed not out yet.

In my opinion for the other I doesn’t matter whether they are just publishing or actually developing. The games are not bar but apparently don’t sell well. Maybe their not the greatest at marketing but I enjoy the vibes they are going for

LovableSidekick, do games w Frostpunk creators cancel "Project 8" and lay off staff amid concerns that "narrative-driven, story-rich games" don't sell

Sad but I can see their point, considering that most customer attention spans are limited to memes now.

ByteOnBikes,

You’re not wrong at all.

Baldurs Gate 3 was a surprise success. But then again, it took them many years and many Divinity games.

Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk also are narrative darlings. But CD Projekt took a lot of chances over the years to get here.

A bunch of my favorite heavy-story games are sitting at under 2000 steam reviews. While Meme game for Twitch Streamer hits 10k-100k reviews.

I’m currently playing Shadows of Loathing right now, and I can’t believe it took me this long. Next up is Beyond Shadowgate.

LovableSidekick,

Boy those are some memories! My comment was actually just a cheeky response to “you do you” - which always triggers me for some reason. I can understand the douchevotes it’s getting lol.

Phil_in_here,

I’m in there. I see “story rich” and it reads as a crutch for no gameplay, or a premise for a book without the responsibility of pacing.

I know that’s far from true, and there are loads of great story-rich games that are fun and engaging. But when that’s the main tag, it turns me away.

Varyag, do gaming w Ubisoft shut down multiplayer shooter XDefiant and lay off hundreds who worked on it

Wait, wasn’t this one actually kinda decent at being a CoD clone? Lmao. Ubisoft can’t get anything done right.

Chozo,
@Chozo@fedia.io avatar

They tried too hard to be a CoD/Siege clone without offering anything new. I'm surprised it ever launched in the first place.

It really feels like somebody at Ubisoft is intentionally trying to tank the whole company or something lately. They used to be such a competent studio, so much so that it's hard to believe that these major failures as of late are an accident.
