Mdotaut801, do games w I am LOVING Baldurs Gate 3

My sister keeps telling me to get it. Our Mom is currently in town and staying with me. Unfortunately, my office doubles as a spare bedroom so I can’t play rn. I don’t want her to leave, but I also want her to leave haha.

MrLuemasG,

Aaaah I feel that. I’ve been sitting on it trying to make time to play it. It’ll be great once you get the chance!

Absolutely great game! And being a Larian's title means the game will only get better and better with updates and good mod support! Like you said they really did a good job to make the game easy to follow. As an one who never played any tabletop RPGs, I couldn't understand how the combat worked in the first Pathfinder game (like at all) so I eventually dropped it, but this is not the case for BG3.

All the classes are surprisingly fun too. Like I did think I would enjoy Berserkers but they are even more funnier than I have ever imagined - when there's any problem, just roar them out, or grab it up to hit another problem and make them both prone. And I already have planned 4 or 5 classes to try in the future. Now if only they can make save files smaller in size (got 1.4G of them now)...

In sad about 16 :(

sheogorath,

Noooooooooooppp, I already had a MechWarrior/Gundam like run planned where I have a big ship with mechs that I pilot and then go be a mercenary in space.

0000000nowhere, do gaming w If the same game is available and on sale on GOG and Steam, on which platform you rather buy it?

Steam because I’m a sucker for achievements. Sue me.

GenericBob,

Gog has achievements though?

Smoke, do gaming w what's some of the best dialogue systems you've seen and why?

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines has special lines that unlock according to your character build. Unlike a single Charisma skill, they’re divided into skills like ‘Intimidation’, ‘Seduction’, ‘Erudite’, etc. Intimidate options appear in ALL CAPS HULK SPEAK, seductive options are in italic in handwriting, and Erudite appears in blue. If you lose your humanity and become too bestial, dialogue starts disappearing as you’re too far gone to understand it and NPCs start being too scared to talk to you.

steakmeout, do gaming w Steam Deck VS rivals

I own Steam Deck and the ROG Ally. Steam Deck is a simpler experience, ROG Ally is more powerful and offers a true desktop experience in a handheld.

77slevin,

and offers a true desktop experience in a handheld.

Awkwardly telling us it’s an unsuited Windows 11 installation on a handheld. Would not want it on my desktop, let alone on my unwieldy handheld.

steakmeout,

No I’m telling you that you can have more of a direct desktop experience on a handheld like ROG Ally. There’s no compatibility issues - apps and games all work as expected. What Steamdeck provides is streamlined experience but it is also limited somewhat as a result - can’t easily switch between, say, a browser and a game, can’t easily run desktop apps such as Wallpaper Engine or productivity apps. There’s a use case for Ally.

Datas_Cat_Spot, do gaming w What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?
@Datas_Cat_Spot@startrek.website avatar

The Baldur’s Gate IP has a solid fanbase, D&D is really popular now, and also Larian knocked this one out of the park.

It’s also refreshingly consumer-friendly, like others have said.

Stillhart,

This hits all the points pretty succinctly. Nice.

zachary3752,

Pretty much a perfect summary, well said.

Since Microsoft’s parity issues, I decided to buy Divinity Original Sin 2 to support Larian. I like the stand they made (as opposed to how CDPR did with Cyberpunk), and figured they deserve the cash.

While the graphics could be better, and that it’s at times difficult to focus on such a dialogue heavy game, I noticed that I’ve already spent 20 hours with it and have barely escaped what could be called the tutorial area (fort joy).

I love it. I’m playing 4 custom characters, all necromancers, two melee oriented, two ranged, and it’s a total crap fest of a party, but I’m making it work real well.

Fort Joy is the best and largest part of the game, enjoy it! I guess Fort Joy resembles wher Larian wanted to go with the game, the last 2 acts are not even close in comparison

Mischala,

I have just recently picked it back up, vowing to finish it before I buy Baldur’s Gate 3

Def deserves a playthrough with the characters, their stories aren’t bad.

But you choose well with Necros, they are fun as hell.

BG3 like everyone else. I’m at 40 hours now, in act 2. Going to play a bit less this week though, as the game hasn’t been great for my sleep cycle.

youngalfred, do gaming w what's some of the best dialogue systems you've seen and why?

I think it depends on the game.

Need something fast paced, where the options don’t really matter? Go with just labels and don’t show the script.

Need fast paced but it matters? Go with the other commenter’s game that has a time limit while still showing scripts.

Slow and doesn’t matter? Do what you like, it doesn’t matter.

Slow and matters? Think Fallout: New Vegas - excellent script detail and what you choose makes a big difference

Anything that is turn-based will work really, or doesn't rely on a real-time mechanic.

I do suggest looking at a small trackball that you can use in the meantime. It'll be useful for the times when you need a pointing device in a smaller space, for whatever reason.

If you’re looking for a good JRPG, I can’t recommend the Persona series enough. I hate traditional JRPG’s but I love Persona and have dumped literally hundreds of hours into P5/ P5 Royal. I know it’s not pixel art, but the art style is very unique and fun to look at.

lorez,

Totally agree. The last JRPG (if you don’t count the Zelda saga) I played was Final Fantasy VII on Ps1. Persona 5 Royal was awesome.

There are usually ways around this in the config files. That’s how I’ve always fixed it.
