tiredofsametab, do games w Are there any games like Diablo but not Diablo because Diablo?

Torchlight 2 should scratch that itch. To me, Path of Exile is something the Diablo series could have been but wasn't exactly? Though I haven't played it in a number of years, so I may be mis-remembering exactly what it was like. I seem to think it was more like a point-and-click RPG with kinda Diablo-like combat.

Glide,

Path of Exile has “evolved”, and not in a way I like, in the most recent years.

It’s a very fast, clear-speed focused game, now, more so than ever. Even inside it’s genre, it’s exceptionally build focused and not very interactive during play, which is impressive, considering these are things the genre is known for.

Etterra, do gaming w Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

That shithead skeleton from Undertale. If I an ever forced to play that game, it’s all genocide all day, idc that it’s the hardest mode. That game looks like ass and its fans are insufferable, but that fucking little skeleton deserves to be ground up and snorted.

Zahille7,

Lol right?

stephaaaaan, do games w What's your big "Oh, THAT'S how I do that" moment?

Parrying in Arkham Origins. It took me SIX. MONTHS before I finally understood how to beat Deathstroke 😬

For me it’s probably KSP and/or KSP2, which is weird because I literally design and program for rockets as a job…

I have not seen anyone mention these, which is surprising. They are the definition of relaxing lol

  • Dorf Romantik
  • Islanders

Relaxing base builders with a nice soundtrack and a “get as many points as you can. Failed? No problem, just start over and relax again” kind of vibe.

Then there is duck game if you have some friends to relax with. It is hilarious.

Blueshift,

In that same vein: mini motorways and stacklands

Deconceptualist, do gaming w What is your game to de stress ?

IMO Mini Metro quickly becomes super stressful. I assume Motorways is the same.

Instead I would say Islanders is quite relaxing. Super minimal city building.

What I’d really like though is something for Steam Deck with a good flow state. Any suggestions? Lonely Mountains Downhill looks pretty good maybe. Someone else mentioned Superflight which is great but maybe too minimal.

Mario/duck hunt for NES

I’m pretty sure it was Pong on a dedicated console from Sears. I remember playing Pong when I was super young, but I don’t remember if that was at the same time as us getting an Atari 2600 or not.

FenrirIII,
@FenrirIII@lemmy.world avatar

Was it pong with two gigantic, wired controllers with turn knows? That’s what we had

dogslayeggs,

I can’t remember if it was the one with wired controllers or the one with one box that had two wheels

conciselyverbose, do gaming w Seeking: Kid-friendly Adventure/Exploration Games (PC)

If you're open to dealing with emulation, both the new Zeldas pretty much fit the bill. There's combat but probably less than Skyrim.

Slime Rancher is one I enjoyed for a while that's definitely kid friendly. Supraland didn't really grab me, but in terms of being super tame and having varied stuff to explore it fits again.

If it specifically has to be houses/cities, none of those fit that well. But they have worlds that are varied and interesting.

VulKendov,
@VulKendov@reddthat.com avatar

Botw/Totk’s combat might be a bit too difficult in the beginning for a 4 year old, so OP might need to take the reigns when combat starts.

conciselyverbose,

That's possible. I think it's more kid friendly than Skyrim though.

It's also mostly easy to ignore.

TwilightVulpine, do gaming w Cant really get into Mihoyo games on my commute

I'd say Honkai Star Rail is the most commute-friendly one, since it's based on turn-based battles. Genshin is definitely not the best one for that. Exploring the open world and doing quests take a long, long time. Honkai Impact 3rd has short missions too but it's action oriented.

emmie, do gaming w Dissapointed in Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller

Unfortunately so much stuff on the web is astroturfed it’s hard to form a good opinion nowadays.

Even the products reviews or maybe especially these it’s hard to tell what is true nowadays and what is fiction or misinfo

Id love to brush it off and say eh just paranoid but there’s real money and motive.

Reddit was relatively good for some time but then I heard it’s already full of marketing

AVengefulAxolotl, do games w What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about?

Shadows of doubt is a sandbox detective game. You are a detective and you have to solve crimes, which are totally randomized. What makes this interesting is that the world does not stop:

  • the NPCs actually have daily routines
  • the murderer might not stop killing
  • you can talk with anyone
  • and so much more

It is truly a sandbox! I havent played it too much yet, but i feel if i really start playing it, then i will skip going to bed!

Zahille7,

I bought that game a while back, but I couldn’t get into solving anything. Maybe I was just playing it wrong or something.

ICastFist,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

I mean, if Josh from Let’s Game it Out fucked around nonstop in almost every possible way and still “solved” a case, I doubt you could be playing the game wrong 😆

Unciv for Android. It’s basically Civilization 5, but FOSS.

Shoutout to Iji, too. Amazing soundtrack and lots of replayability. It’s an old game by now, but it’s also free. Sidescrolling platformer, killing is optional.

Assault Android Cactus. Dunno how well known the game is, but it’s one of the best twin stick shooters/bullet hell I’ve played, with the android girls full of charm.

TwilightVulpine,

I was going to say Iji. Such an amazing game, it’s like the 2D version of an immersive sim. I wish there was a remake only so the dev could make the money they rightfully deserve.

johannesvanderwhales,

I recommend Nex Machina if you enjoyed that one.

ICastFist,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

Uh, which one? I mentioned 3 games

johannesvanderwhales,

Sorry, Assault Android Cactus. The formatting in my app made it look like two separate comments when I was skimming quickly.

farcaster, do gaming w Get the PS5 now or wait for the pro?

I’d wait. I feel like consoles must be getting close to a hardware refresh now.

HowManyNimons, do games w What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about?

Griftlands doesn’t get as much attention as I think it deserves. It’s everything Slay the Spire offers, but better. With plot and characters and two decks to balance.

AVengefulAxolotl,

I bought it discounted because i remember that i have seen it before. I really did not expect it to be this good. The world, the storyline and the combat are just awesome. Highly recommended!
