No not really. Played a lot of GAMMA and Anomaly throughout the years so Stalker2 is something new.

Bro, you’re awesome!

Why not start a full fledged blog site? Using Jekyll is pretty easy and free to deploy.

*I’m a ‘Miss’, not ‘bro’!

And thanks, that’s really kind of you!

I guess…well I’ve thought of it a few times, but in the end (and don’t judge me, hubris coming here) the idea that there might be one extra reason to come to Lemmy - to bring even a few extra people in to the fediverse, well that makes me happy.

Its an over estimation of my posts’ worth (I see quite regular down votes), but I like that this is where you’d find my posts.

…if that makes any sense? Anyway, I have considered it many times.

farcaster,

Yeah this is a great writeup. First time I noticed it. I’d follow your blog on RSS for sure.

GreyEyedGhost,

If you haven’t seen her other posts, I’d jump on her profile and read it. There are 7 more of these out there!

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

And they won’t stop coming!!!

alehel,

Yes, I’d much rather these be on Lemmy! I don’t want yet another blog to bookmark. By being on Lemmy I also catch new posts pretty quickly in my feed.

caseyweederman,

Sorry! Sorry. Miss bro.

Elevator7009,

Nice to find another woman on the Fediverse. Usually I don’t mind male-dominated environments as long as nobody treats me badly once they know I’m female, but the small amount of participants in !otomegames and !infinitynikki (both communities for games that are aimed at women) makes me wish for more women here. Meanwhile the gender-neutral !automationgames attracted a lot more attention.

Glitch,

I was just thinking I’d like this as an RSS feed!

Memberships are fine as long as they add perks and don’t take anything away from what non-members have access to now.

That quiet smile at the end is great. It's good to have purpose, regardless of what it is. I still have all my old cards for whatever reason, all the way back to the TNT. It will never get used again, but I feel trashing it is disrespectful for all the joy it gave me when it could.

Here’s a bonus screenshot for you. I really like this image, just because it’s sort of an ominous “quiet before the storm” shot. Seeing both scientists watch you with silent anticipation as you’re about to cause a world-altering event in that next room.

I thought both games were excellent, but yes there was definitely something about BOTW that set it apart. In addition to what you’ve said, I think it’s partially that BOTW was such a unique experience the first time through - little things like the stamina meter for climbing, the cooking to help you craft items that warm you up etc. Discovering these features and setting off in whichever direction you fancied was a joy. TOTK didn’t have this same joy, as I already knew about these mechanics. And it felt like there was much more of a push to get the player to go in a specific direction, rather than leaving the exploration up to them.

I reckon they probably did the best job they could’ve with a sequel, but it was never going to be possible to live up to BOTW.

I just wanted to say, thank you! I’ve missed this kind of info after moving away from Reddit. This is absolutely wonderful, and I will look forward to any more you post, though I fully understand if you get busy or lose interest. Thank you!!!

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for saying so!

I used to share these so very often on Reddit, esp on my own sub-reddit there…and it’s honestly the one thing I missed about being there. I’m very glad I remembered about Lemmy and re-joined here, because it’s been so much fun finding a (mostly) willing audience for this kind of post again!

I’m trying to force myself to write these only one per week, but so far the majority were only 3 or 4 days between each. I’m sticking around :)

linkybunny,

Well then I will be keeping an eye out. These will give me some news I can read without fear of flood of negative or depressing news. Thank you again!

ChexMax, do games w What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists?

I was going to comment harvest moon after reading the title!

A lot of the older games for me. They’re just a lot harder. Like maybe they expect you to be willing to replay an area or a level over and over, getting a little farther each time until you beat it and I just don’t have the stamina for that anymore, or the time.

Newer games baby you, they increase the difficultly perfectly along side your ability growth. They might even make a level easier if you’ve failed twice. Older games don’t care if you’re having fun as much. There was less competition (fewer game choices) and more of a “gamers like this. If you don’t like it, you’re not a gamer” attitude, and now games want to attract everyone.

I have become such a baby about games. I want to have fun the whole time! I can’t handle failing over and over. I’d rather just read a book.

Echolynx,

Same, this is how I got frustrated by Hades. I no longer have endless time to sink into a game to get good.

Potatar,

The “story” of Hades is that the guy you control gets better over time and finally escapes. How else can you convey it? With text (cardinal sin)?

zalgotext,

I don’t think anyone is saying that the story of Hades isn’t portrayed well with the rougelike style, but it’s totally ok to say “I don’t have time to play a game that’s designed such that you fail dozens of times before you win”

Lost_My_Mind, do games w What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists?

Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Now you got Rock, Paper, Scissors, Stapler, Banana, Atomic Bomb, Literature, Handcuffs, Police Brutality, Spock, Tweezers, Howling Dog.

And really, who would ever expect you to pick Tweezers? But it doesn’t lose to much, so it’s actually a great pick to twist your friends nipples. Unless they start EXPECTING you to twist their nipples, so they pick Atomic Bomb, and blow up all of civilization in a 30 mile radius.

I haven’t been on Space Station 13 since Space Station 14 came out. The controls are just actually intuitive and BYOND is dead in the water.

RandomStickman,
@RandomStickman@fedia.io avatar

Wow I didn't even know 14 is a thing!

Sanctus,
@Sanctus@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah its disconnected from BYOND. I think you can launch it standalone but it also comes through Steam (always free). It was pretty bare bones but now its catching up. Looks easier to maintain and mod on the back end.
