Nice. I started Ratchet & Clank on PCSX2 yesterday. Holy hell is that Emulator a work of art. The graphical options for the emu make that PS2 game still shine and the gameplay is lotsa fun. Sadly the libretro core for Retroarch/Emulationstation bugged out for me and was slow compared to standalone PCSX2.
Also I’m still puzzled how it’s possible there are so many retro-achievements for so many games. I looked up how to implement them and it’s really complicated. I totally underestimated how big the retro games scene still is. I really want to get into the netplay thing.
I use SteelSeries Arctis 9, its station has PlayStation toggle for what I assume PS compatibility. They are wireless, sound is good IMO, but Mic is not that great (usable though). I also like that they connect to my phone via Bluetooth, often use this while watching YouTube/listening podcast waiting for food delivery, courier calls, KDE Connect puts media on pause, I answer “hands free” from the same headset

Picked up Lies of P yesterday. I am enjoying it a lot, and a lot more than I thought I would. I saw some pre-release playthroughs that left me hesitant, but it is on GamePass, so I figured why not.
It is a great mix of FromSoft concepts, pulling a lot from Bloodbourne and a little from all of them. Highly recommend if anyone wants a soulslike but don’t want to play Elden Ring again.
Can someone help me remember the name of a certain game? I heard about it in an LTT video. Apparently it’s a really cheap 8(+?)-player Steam game that is a sort of magic/wizard free-for-all game that’s lots of fun with little strategy. I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember the name of it.
Assuming that the premise is, they will actually magically play it even if they would usually go “Oh…nice…”, I would give Sky: Children of Light to a former classmate who was (haven’t talked to him in 6 years) the sort to throw his controller when he lost particularly bad in Call of Duty.
Sky is kinda like Journey (made by the same developer as well), but with an increased multiplayer- and social experience, to keep it short.
They’re partially owned by Tencent, a big Chinese company. And as Chinese companies are, the government has direct influence over them. And while Tencent is not a majority owner, Tim Sweeney happily took Chinese money and now pays his co-owner a portion of the profits which then go to pay for Chinese gulags.
There are many things, especially hardware, where it’s impossible to avoid Chinese companies but simply buying games somewhere else is super easy. It’s obviously not a perfect system because even on GOG there are games using UE, but just buying games somewhere else is such a low barrier, it’s not an inconvenience at all.
That said, claiming the free games doesn’t help them. It helps the developers making those games because Epic has to pay them and won’t get anything in return if that doesn’t result in users leaving money in EGS for other things.
For less than $5 CAD, I picked up Maiden & Spell, an excessively cute sidescrolling shooter a la R-Type, except it’s a levelless boss rush with Story and Versus modes. It’s got a very Touhou aesthetic (i.e. rather than spaceships or dragons or something, everyone is cute girls).
Story mode is basically a Touhou boss rush, where your character fights 4 monster girls and 2 out of the other 3 human girls, with no level in-between, it’s just bosses. There’s a threadbare but acceptable story linking them, with each playable character giving a different perspective on the same story, and then there being an epilogue chapter and a bonus extra boss. Story mode has 4 difficulties, the easiest of which is called Cute Mode and is basically unloseable, so even if you’ve never played a game like this, you can give it a go.
Versus mode is basically a 1v1 fighting game. You and one friend each pick one of the 8 girls and do bullet hells at each other until you see who wins. It’s not complex, but it is kind of tactically deep.
The same author is currently working on a sequel, Rabbit & Steel, a very similar game except rather than a versus battler, it’s a coop roguelike inspired by MMO raid mechanics. A sneak-peek demo with online multiplayer is available, and it’s really fun!
I don’t know of any single site where different game guides are aggregated, at least not the same way they were in the 90s/00s. Most games tend to use their own Wiki/Fandom sites for that sort of thing now.
You’ll probably end up needing to print several different pages and aggregate them together to get a single, offline guide for a game, but certainly possible with prep time.
Most of the guides I will try to add to my kindle or save on my laptop. Looking for Doom 2016, Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing, Elden Ring, Demons Souls. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it and may make a personal list of all the games and links.
