StrahdVonZarovich, do gaming w Modern Pokemon games hold your hand too much.
@StrahdVonZarovich@beehaw.org avatar

When I was a kid I was super into pokemon. I loved playing the games and they stood out to me for one reason: they were challenging. My first game was Black, and I got stuck on the first gym leader for a few days, but when I figured it out it was immensely satisfying. I would hit roadblock, I would struggle, and eventually I overcame it. Then my friend introduced me to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and it got even harder. I honestly think that the final dungeon of Explorers of Time made me smarter or something. It forced my dumbass child brain to think outside the box and find solutions on my own.

Then Pokemon X and Y released, and it was the most stupidly easy game ive ever played. And it kept getting easier after that. Add onto that the worsening quality and I stopped caring about Pokemon. My friend who is really into Pokemon hasnt bought a new game in years, he only plays Romhacks or replays the old games.

Anyone of my simulation/management games. Whether it’s running a hospital, creating an auto manufacturing assembly line or helping some brave adventurers find oxygen I’m always more at peace with a single player goal driven experience.

Double jumping. Something about double jumping just always feels really liberating. It’s such a strange concept as well, with no analogue in the real world.

I haven’t seen anyone mentioning this gem:

Vampire Survivors

Stardew Valley is amazing for this. Minecraft was it for years and years, but Stardew is just like a nice hug. I adore it.

Hogwarts Legacy has also fallen into this category for me now.

Any good movement mechanics. Shoutout to grappling hooks!

setsneedtofeed, do gaming w How are you feeling right now (gaming-wise)?
@setsneedtofeed@beehaw.org avatar

I’m kind of in a spur of playing or replaying older games. Replayed Fallout 1 recently and I’m doing a low intelligence build for the first time ever.

Debating playing VTM Bloodlines or the original Deus Ex, because this is a sin- I’ve never played either.

I would like to hear how your low int build goes! I have heard that it will lock you out of most quests.

So far I am locked out of the Killian/Gizmo quest because both characters think I’m too dumb and dismiss me.

And big problem: I’m too stupid to use a slot machine. I had planned on using gambling as my money maker so this is a problem. Even with Mentats I’m still too dumb to gamble.

hamborgr, do gaming w Setting up a Minecraft server for minimal data collection?

Your best option to avoid unnecessary data collection is to just use a FOSS server. Paper (Github) is a pretty good one imo. It’s also super lightweight and has some really good performance tweaks.

XiberKernel, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Pokémon Let’s Go [Eevee / Pikachu] can be played with a single joycon vertical in one hand. They designed it to be played with their Pokéball controller, accidentally making it super accessible.

Definitely interested. Would love to take an early peek.

If you need any Linux/proton teters I’m willing to test it. I can run it on Steam Deck, crappy laptops and of course game pc’s.

But don’t know if you want the variable of Linux/proton in the mix know. Or only windows in case Linux/proton is creating more bugs.

Anyway looks like a nice game and good luck with the development either way!

grue, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Anything on PC with a mouse/keyboard, maybe with the spacebar remapped.

This looks awesome, I’d love to help test it :3

Road_Warrior_10,

Thank you so much, already sent you a DM!

arudesalad, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

If you can still use a mouse well, grand strategy games can be played with one hand. Despite all the (deserved) criticism they get, paradox games are a lot of fun. (and their modern ones even feel like a full game without having to buy any dlc) They can be a bit difficult to keep up with without a keyboard though so play on lower speeds.

If you are more concious about who you give your money to, endless legend 2 is a 4x published by hooded horse that is very good (think civ but fantasy) and since it is turn based it is a lot easier to play with just a mouse.

BananaTrifleViolin, do games w Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Any points and click adventure game, there are loads including old classics and modern good games.

Monkey Island remasters are fun and can be played with mouse. Broken Sword games are also good.

Rusty Lake games are great if you prefer more puzzle games than narrative ones. Still has a great somewhat surreal plot just not like a point and click narrative game.

Also If you havent played dwarf fortress now is the time to learn, the siege update came out this week. Mouse or keyboard, or both, but definitely can be done one handed.

Vampire Survivor that others have suggested is a good shout, one hand on the keyboard is enough and its very addictive.
