I don't have an 8bitdo Ultimate controller, but I have several of their other ones. They all work for me over bluetooth when I pair it with my PC and then use Steam to recognize the controller. They show up as a Switch Pro controller, meaning Steam won't be aware of the back buttons (I'm guessing you need to use 8bitdo's software to do that). But you can remap the regular buttons and the gyroscope in Steam's UI. If you use xinput mode, then you are limited to the controls on an Xbox controller, so no gyroscope.
That does mean you need to use Steam to launch all of your games, even if you bought them elsewhere, but Steam has a controller-friendly interface, so I prefer to do that anyway.
edit: Bah, I just saw @mp3's comment. Too bad that their Ultimate controller doesn't work like their other ones, that's a big step backwards.
Someone else mentioned Procession to Calvary - an adventure game set in a cut and paste world of renaissance art with a very surreal plot and sense of humour. Pythonesque.
There Is No Game is pretty hilarious, the voice acting always makes me crack up.
Agatha Knife is a funny point and click adventure game where you're a 7 year old girl who's a butcher and needs to set up her own religion sacrificing pigs in the basement for... Reasons.
Have been gaming in front of a 44-inch 4k TV for years (sorry eyes) with no issues. The biggest thing is making sure the TV has some sort of low latency or “gaming” mode that will turn off the TVs post-processing. WITHOUT THAT, the other commenters are right that the input lag may be unplayable.
There’s a decent write up on how Android ‘dropper’ malware functions here. TLDR - while the APK may be clean, it tries to trick you into installing a malware infected APK later in the install process or during a fake update.
Thanks. That dropper function looks dangerous. However, the first dropper campaign spotted by Threat Fabric at the beginning of October 2022, and this file was uploaded at 2020, so even if it’s indeed malicious, it’s probably a different bad guy I guess.
I think that 404 Media is a great example of a recent independent media organization that has a great user experience and a monetization strategy that doesn’t make me feel gross. A lot of their pull is the excellent journalism and writing, and the fact that the journalists that started it are respected and have a decent following. I don’t know how feasible this type of setup would be without that head start.
You can absolutely use a TV, even for FPS games. If the response time is terrible it might impact FPS games, but every other genre should be fine even if the input lag is significant.
I used a TV myself for 2-3 years at one point. I was playing Destiny 2, an FPS game, when it finally died on me lol.
Consider containers. Gluetun makes it easy to establish a wireguard connection to Nord, then use qbittorrent docker on the network that glutun provides, same for all your *arrs. Safer, faster, self-contained. Connect your web-browser to gluetun’s proxy. Just sayin’
I’ve started playing Ghostrunner. I’ve really missed level based games, and the gameplay is just thrilling. It’s really been a blast trying to go faster than my friends, as well as collecting all the items in some really well designed levels
The controllers connect to the Shield. You can also connect keyboard and mouse to it.
I find Steam Link to be slow and low framerate though. Sunshine running on the PC and Moonlight running on the Shield seen to do the trick. I also disabled the image sharpening on the Shield because it looks really odd.
Nvidia GameStream being disabled now is a really fucking shitty thing for them to do. Sunshine lacks the ability to change the PC resolution to match the streaming resolution.
I’m on vacation, so I’ve returned to my default Steam Deck game: Wildermyth. I love its storytelling, particularly with carrying characters over from one campaign to another. I’ve grown particularly attached to the warrior from my first campaign, now fully fire-transformed. However, he’s moved on from his first love, who is now far too crow-like.
