Swarfega, do games w This console generation seems skippable

I got the PS4 Pro having not bothered upgrading from a PS3. At this point there was so many good games to play. I was so impressed I got the PS5 a year after launch. I’m really disappointed as the games have lackluster compared to my time on the PS4.

Honestly the only console that I see is worth having is the Switch. Other than that I play on the PC and now Steam Deck.

PS2 was good, PS3 was skippable. Xbox 360 was good, Xbox One was skippable. Can you guess when I got a PC? Lol. The Switch was the perfect console to pair with the PC in my opinion, but then I got a Deck… So, no, no reason to get any of the new consoles unless you just absolutely need to play the new Spider-Man game right now.

Galaxian as Ridge Racer loaded on the PlayStation.

Splatoon 2’s rhythm game. I am forever angy that splat 3 has no rhythm mini game

I don’t think I’ve played anything exclusive to the PS5. Not worth buying in my opinion.

I have played stuff exclusive to the switch, I mostly dislike it though. I’m not sure why, I think it’s that they don’t compete because they have us with their catalogue and I dislike their business practices, selling gimmicks and vaulting content. Especially given most of the switch games are port of Wiiu games then it probably is skippable.

I’d agree, should have skipped.

Jansport is excellent. I recently sent a 30-year-old bag in for warranty work which they honored at no cost to me other than shipping. A great choice.

OhFudgeBars, do games w Games that force you to make hard choices

An indie game called OneShot from the Undertale knockoff genre has only one choice that matters, but god damn what a horrible choice, particularly since a child has to make it. And by the way, the game is called OneShot because it’s designed to be played exactly once. If you want to play again, you have to mess with some files to do so.

Triangle Strategy. I hit a number of points where I had to think hard to make my decision and even then I wasn’t sure if it was what I should’ve gone with. Trying to save and reload to pick something else is futile since I’d just run into another tough decision down the line which modifies things further and it’d take too long to play through multiple key points. It’s an amazing strategy game as well.

I haven’t seen the point in anything but PC ever since the PS4 came out. You get worse hardware and less games.

Blum0108,

Fewer and more expensive games, more ads, pay to play online.

Renacles,

They have ads now? When did that happen?

clearleaf, do games w This console generation seems skippable

PS4 and Xbone was the first generation I skipped. I always waited to see what console I was going to get first but then that whole gen just came and went before I knew it. I kind of wanted a switch this gen but I could never justify it to myself.

Kenshi

Also does anyone think Morrowind counts?

comicallycluttered, do gaming w What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?

If Hades didn’t have God Mode (which actually works in a pretty interesting way and isn’t just invincibility or whatever), I would have given up incredibly quickly.

Once I enabled it, shit started to actually feel fun for me.

Now it’s one of my favourite ever games.

I couldn’t get past the second area(I think?)of Cuphead, there was a dragon boss that was just a wall for me.

That boss was indeed tough but also one of my favorites from that game. I even have a shirt of it (that is suffering from some wear and tear at this point). I probably spent several hours each trying to beat both that dragon and the game's robot boss as well.

It’s a really hard game but I have to say learning to speedrun it was super fulfilling. Time consuming though haha

CharlesReed, do gaming w What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?

If I picked Wolfenstein: The New Order back up today, I'd probably have a better time with it, since it's been a decade since I touched it last and my gaming abilities have improved since then, but for whatever reason this game was ridiculously difficult for me, even on the easiest setting. It finally came to a point where I just couldn't finish it, and I'm not sure if I ever will.

bipmi,

I remember it being probably the most difficult shooter I had ever played up until that point. The campaign was genuinely so hard. I (barely) managed to beat it and the boss fight at the end took me real life months.

survivalmachine, do gaming w What difficult games/game challenges did you give up on?

Gave up on gaming in general. Moved to Linux back in October. Had issues getting my games to play because of various issues between Nvidia 535/545 and Wayland, Xorg, or the steam/proton/lutris/aagl/hgl things I tried. Then work got too busy and I’ve put gaming on the back burner 'til I have more time to troubleshoot it (hopefully with new Nvidia/Wayland packages).

DoucheBagMcSwag,

This.

This is unfortunately why I have not switched to Linux as a daily driver

survivalmachine,

You might give it a try – it may just work for you. Not everybody has the same issues, and I’m sure I’ll be able to figure it out later when I have time to troubleshoot it. This is just a busy time of year for me, so as long as my work stuff works, I’m good, and gaming has to sit on the backburner for a bit.

Stillhart,

I switched to Linux as my daily driver back last summer and have been able to play every game I’ve tried with literally no issues. Admittedly, I had issues at first but then I switched to Pop!_OS, which has built-in support for Nvidia hybrid graphics. That solved the few gaming issues I had.

With how easy it was and how many games work with no issues, I’m genuinely surprised to hear people say they are having issues with it. I’m not even close to a linux expert. I’m not a programmer. I don’t want my OS to be a hobby, I want it to just work. And so far it has.
