I’ve been playing Nine Sols on Steam Deck this week… getting my arse kicked and it’s making me kinda sad. I used to love difficult reflex challenge games like the From Software games, etc. But last year I was destroyed by a mystery virus and it did something to my brain. I’ve been feeling a lot better for the last few months and thought maybe I’ve finally recovered enough to play some hard games so I grabbed Nine Sols and yeah, I’m not quite there. But it seems like a really cool game! Urgh!
I’ve also been playing Medal of Honor Allied Assault which I grabbed in the GOG sale. Playing through on hard has been a blast (except the snipers, fuck those guys), and the early 2000s aesthetics are really nice… didn’t realise how much I missed this style as I usually go for 90s games when I’m feeling retro.
Shame about Nightdive not getting permission to do Goldeneye. They’ve done great work in the past, and a remaster of Goldeneye would have been awesome to see.

Yeah Goldeneye has a legit good campaign… would love to play it on PC with some modern convenience. The Perfect Dark decomp/port project is fantastic so maybe there’s hope for a Goldeneye port too regardless of what Nintendo says!
Just fyi, other companies like miyoo are thinking of stopping the US shipments as well. At least according to annon discord convos with support. But with the situation changing by the hour who knows.
I’d say it’s inevitable. With Anbernic (arguably the bigger name of them all) saying no more, I’d say they’ll all halt them sooner rather than later.
No problem for those of us in Europe or…anywhere else in the world, but I’m sad for those stuck in America (well, those who voted for a different leader anyway) who have to suffer.
I have fond memories of being the only one I knew with a Virtual Boy. My mom got it on clearance along with games like Teleroboxing and Galactic Pinball.
I’m currently in the last few hours of the DLC of Borderlands 2, trying to wrap it up before moving on to the Pre-Sequel.
My wife and I finished up Split Fiction and have moved on to Blue Prince, which we’re 3 in-game days into. We love a good puzzle game, and we’re told this one will fit the bill.
And besides those, I’ve still been replaying Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance for the first time. I made it to the titular city in the former and I’m still probably in early hours in the latter, probably about to get an introduction to a major character in the story (“The Prey” is the name of the quest that I’m on right now, if you’re curious).
I think that !space is the most general community, and communities like “!astronomy” and “!spaceflight” are subsets.
Interesting data from a telescope? Astronomy and space, but not spaceflight.
A new GPS satellite is launched? Spaceflight and space, but not astronomy.
The Perseverance rover drills into a neat rock on Mars? Space, but not really astronomy or spaceflight.
A new space telescope is launched? Definitely all three.
These are just my thoughts though, and I’d love to hear what others think.
@Bee, @otter, @Bitswap Thoughts on changing the display name of !space from “Space & Astronomy” to just “Space”? Not that astronomy posts wouldn’t be welcome, but it could help reduce confusion with this community.

Also kind of breaks immersion when there’s tons of different enemies, but they never fight between themselves. Only when the player character shows up, they’re like, imma ruin this woman’s life.
Being kinda serious for a second here, I think this is a byproduct of chasing ever higher production values in service of “realism”. The more they try to spackle over all the cracks, the more the ones they can’t/don’t become obvious to the player. Just like movies, videogames often require a bit of temporary suspension of disbelief.
I’m not gonna write a whole essay about chasing some perfect, mythical balance here, but it’s a design aspect that I feel a lot of developers just don’t consider at all. Maintaining a high level of illusion is extremely difficult and not even always all that worth it. Sometimes it’s just nice to admit you don’t know why that enemy dropped a glowing hamburger that restored 25% health, but those are the rules you’re playing by and you don’t have to question it.
