Instead of buying a license for a game for $70 you subscribe to a rental service that gives you access to 500 games for $10/month.
Or, instead of buying a $500 console or a $800 PC you just buy a $60 controller and you stream those games running on “the cloud” (=someone else’s console) for $15/month
Problem is that the service is provided by Microsoft at a loss and when they’ll get enough critical mass, they’ll enshittify it.
The economic proposition is good, but I think it’s just to teach gamers that “you’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy”
I played maybe five hours of 3 and maybe it was because I was older than for the previous two, but the sunny “we’re friends and everything is so positive and love and sunshine” was really really grating. It felt like it was way more excessive than the first two, but, again, could be the ages I played them at.
Otherwise it played… Okay? The Disney things were stupid. It felt pretty blah otherwise. Nothing remarkable.
its a ton of nomura minigames and disney attractions in combat which draw away from kingdom hearts imo.
i recommend disabling the disney attraction skills because they really detract from the combat
also given how you talked about the games, if you never played any of the other non numbered kingdom hearts games, you might not want to play 3.
EVERY GAME, including the rhythm and mobile games, are canon in Kingdom Hearts.
1 was the start and the only game before 2 was 1 and Chain of memories. 3 in the ideal situation, requires the user to have played like i dont remember, 10 different games.
I don’t really have a reason that I haven’t, but I keep thinking about it more and more. Especially after seeing Bobby Lee interview the creator. That was pretty cool
I’m occasionally playing Fantasy Life i, but mostly played Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s DLC. I think I liked it more than the original game, although it could not exist without it.
I started Claire Obscur: Expedition 33. I really like the setting, presentation and aesthetics. I’m not entirely sold on the real-time defensive mechanics in combat, I think they remove more than they add, but I do really like how each character has their own unique gimmick, which is something that’s sorely lacking in JRPGs.
Started the Lies of P: Overture DLC. Rough beginning, getting back into the groove, some bad enemies, that culminated in an absolutely terrible boss fight. Just complete garbage.
You’re stuck in a tiny arena, with a big ass monster, and a terrible camera. You constantly get shoved around, into the walls, clipping halfway into the boss, because of terrible hitboxes, just living life. Half the time I died and couldn’t even see my character, so I had no idea what my mistake was. Did I mistime my block? Or maybe the last block sent me reeling, and I couldn’t react in time? Or maybe I was just on the ground because the hit before that knocked me down? Nobody knows, not even the boss, because his face is inside the wall.
It’s been getting better since then, the next two bosses weren’t as bad, the second one might even be fun with a few tweaks, and the fourth (which I just beat last night) was actually pretty good. I hope it continues like this, and doesn’t go back to the atrocious start.
As much as I absolutely love Lies of P, I've been holding off since I've been hearing about a lot of bugs. Sounds like I maybe need to wait for another patch, unless the patch they released a week or two ago is the only one.
Performance felt a bit choppy at times (need to activate an FPS overlay again to check for drops), but otherwise no bugs as far as I could tell. It’s just that I think the first boss is terribly designed, and I don’t know if stuff like that would get fixed in a patch.
I played for a while and enjoyed it, but eventually it became clear the developers were taking both the story and the gameplay in directions I didn’t like.
Heavensward was a great story, Stormblood patch quests were amazing. Shadowbringers had its very high peaks of course but even there they had started doing things in the story I hated.
It stopped being a story with unpredictability and actual stakes. There was a time I felt like anyone was at risk, even “main characters”, and it was awesome. It just turned into more of a Sunday morning cartoon - which is fine - it’s just not for me.
I also got sick and tired of them doing the “guess who’s back from the dead?” plotline a bazillion times.
I am currently addicted to stardew, I am playing with my friend. She doesn’t own the game but thanks to steam family share, she can play with me through someone elses copy.
She does want her own copy and I am commenting for her because she doesn’t use Lemmy.
I played for a lil while, trying to get into it to play with my friends. The only MMO i’ve gotten DEEP into was the original Guild Wars, and that is obviously a bit different from other MMOs, so I wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea. I ended up falling off before finishing the base Realm Reborn MSQ. I found the same problem I always have with MMOs - the initial loop is really fun and addicting and I’m enjoying learning the world, but then I hit a point where doing the quests just feels like a slog to endgame. I did some dungeons with my friends once that was possible, and it mostly just felt like I was struggling to keep up with something that everyone else had done 50 times over already. It stunk that I had to do story quests solo, and could only really party up for dungeons. Much preferred the GW experience of playing the MSQ together.
Idk, I’m not trying to trash on the game, I can tell it’s really well made and I’m happy for all y’all. It just didn’t resonate for me.
That’s a major pain point for a lot of new players. You have to invest at least a couple hundred hours into doing the MSQ to get to current endgame content. I know it’s more about the journey, rather than the destination, but it sucks when you have friends doing endgame stuff, and you’re still stuck behind who knows how many more quests in order to join them. I quit the game twice during the stretch of post-ARR quests. They cut the number of quests down since I went through them, but it’s still a slog.
This was also my complaint. I felt like it was missing the cooperative aspect of an MMO that I wanted. I think FFXI is closer to what I want, but it’s understandably older and less accessible for a lot of people. I’m still debating when/if i wana take the plunge and just play that for a while.
I’ve spent about 60 hours replaying the intro quests in XIV trying to get into it lol
