I’m playing Crash Bandicoot 2 on Lemuroid

I just have all my old consoles, a crt, and an input switcher for composite and hdmi. 7 consoles on my bookshelf and 5 more in my entertainment center. I could probably save a healthy amount of space in my basement with emulation lol

Baldur’s Gate 3.

Not exactly sure what the server limits are but something like Valheim could work for a large group of people. It’s an open world sandbox so people can divide up and do whatever they want to on the same server (exploring, fighting, mining, building, farming, etc.) Not sure how far you can get in the game in 3 hours though…

Alternatively you could play some sort of team based shooter but there might be a stark skill difference in a competitive setting.

Apparently the star wars bf classic collection has a 32 player co-op mode vs ai which sounds amazing to me, but I’ve never tried it before

Not really emulation but my vita and 3ds are still so fun to this day. Both consoles, especially the vita, had so much more potential

YuzuDrink,

I’m with you for 3DS. Vita was kind of a dead gen for me at the time—what are some of your favorites?

Secret300,

For a while it’s just been a kingdom hearts machine because I hate fucking chibis and so many 3DS games are chibis except kingdom hearts. I’ve started playing Xenoblade now and soon I’m gonna try to get into monster hunter. I already have 4-5 hours into monster hunter 4 but still have 0 idea what I’m doing

I use a Mister FPGA for emulation of pretty much all 5th gen and older consoles, as well as a ton of arcade games. I like to use it with my CRTs - it has direct analog video output, and it’s highly accurate hardware emulation with effectively zero latency by nature of it being FPGA. It was expensive but it turned out to be right at home in my CRT setup, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

btw there’s a big Stardew update planned for this year, might be worth waiting before starting a new game

I love the mods and graphical upgrades. For example, the “FFT Complete” hack on PSX is still my preferred way to play Final Fantasy Tactics, and I can get a buttery-smooth 60fps on Link’s Awakening (2019).

Lately I’ve also been dabbling into CRT filters with mixed success. Every now and then I’ll get the nostalgia buzz, but a lot of the time I feel like I’m just looking at a game with visible scanlines. I’ve heard it’s better on 4K displays though, and I don’t have regular access to one.

I’ve played Final Fantasy Tactics a lot over the years, I like the PS1 version but the true nostalgia for me is the GBA version.

I’ve also been loving the exodos / win3x projects, DOS games were my childhood 🙂

Portal and Portal 2 are excellent “introduction to gaming,” games. Memorable, fun, funny, and most importantly the entire game teaches you the skills needed for a large percentage of other games.

Factorio, Satisfactory, and Dyson Sphere Program are all good factory building games.

Terraria and Minecraft can be surprisingly engaging with multiplayer.

PINKeHamton,

Portal 2 multiplayer is really nice as wella

AngryCommieKender,

Unfortunately I missed out there. I only managed to pick up P2 last year, and no one that I live near is a gamer.

When first starting out, I think relaxed games that help a player get used to left and right directions (side-scrolling or platform) and timing on the controls is a good start. Then evolve into camera and movement based controls.

My suggestions are starting with these:

My Brother Rabbit

The Between Gardens

Dawn (may have some camera control, but this is the most relaxing game I’ve played for that)

Then move on to these:

La Rana

The Room Series

Aim Labs or any shooting game that has tutorials/ practice mode (for FPS practice)

These games are found on steam. Note, most of these are casual/puzzle based.

I don’t have much experience with co-op, so can’t help you there. But I do like the suggestions so far based on reviews.

Among Us can be a lot of fun with a big group, and it goes up to 15 people. Or if you want something a little more focused on the sneaky and investigative part you could check out something like Town of Salem.

Games of low-stakes lying and finger pointing can be a lot of fun. And trying to be the baddie in one of them without giggling like a fool in an internet cafe and giving yourself away sounds amusing.

Stardew Valley

Disney Dreamlight Valley

Or maybe just Minecraft

As someone who still does LAN weekends with a few friends a couple of times a year, this is a hard one especially if you have 6+ players, however here are my suggestions.

Supreme Commander using the FAF Client - huge scale RTS with up to 16 people in a single map (8v8).

Left4Dead Versus - 8 people go 4v4 so two teams in your case. Dedicated server recommend.

Unreal Tournament 2005/3 - lots of games modes and supports a lot of people but you may need a dedicated server.

Gary’s Mod PropHunt, Bomberman etc - Great sandbox game - can be a bit junky to setup up but excellent if you get it right

Blur - racing game which may be hard to find as it is not being sold anywhere but an excellent multiplayer one

Factorio - way slower pace than any games mentioned, but if you play Deathworld is an adrenaline rush and fun coop. Up to 500 people so 15-16 people is no sweat. Also good for long term goals for continuing play.

Human Fall Flat - funny physics puzzle game up to 4 people. Great for competition as you can make it 4 teams of 4 and have a leaderboard.

Planetside 2 - FPSMMO - epic battles and still very active

That’s a lot of typing already - let me know if you want more suggestions - happy gaming
