CIWS-30, do gaming w Final Fantasy XIV Online is Coming to Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2024 - Xbox Wire

That sounds good, but I hope they tweak the default controller scheme to make it more intuitive. Last time I tried using a controller, it was a terrible experience, and it was just easier to use the mouse and keyboard. They could learn a thing or two from PSO2 and PSO2 NGS, which at the very least, has a decent controller scheme.

I’m really looking forward to Sea of Stars. I’m not even big on turn-based RPGs, save for a few exceptions, but it’s really speaking to me. Not sure if it scratches a nostalgia itch or if it’s the gorgeous art, but I’m into it.

Gris should not be missed if you’ve never played it before!

chase_what_matters,

Agreed!

Katana314,

It was on Game pass before, and I kinda did skip it because I felt like I had played multiple “processing grief” video games, and didn’t like the idea of doing it in a formless world of colors rather than around some kind of deliberate, recognizable world theme. There’s such a thing as being too artsy and abstract.

ShinetheMoment, do games w Coming to Xbox Game Pass: Sea of Stars, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Gris, and Firewatch

Firewatch has been on my list since forever! So glad that I’ll finally get to play it!

Weird, Firewatch was on GP like two months ago.

EarthlingHazard,

It’s pretty common for some games to leave and then return again to game pass. Probably has to do with licensing terms

acastcandream, do gaming w The Xbox 360 Store Will Close July 2024, But You Can Keep Playing Your Favorite Games - Xbox Wire

Once again begs the question why Nintendo shuts their stores down far sooner and makes it so you can’t re-download your old purchases, other than greed/laziness.

Carter,

You can redownload your purchases on discontinued Nintendo platforms.

Schaedelbach,

Sure, but if I already got an old Super Mario game on the Wii or DS, I can’t just re-download it on my Switch. I have to pay for Nintendo Online to play the games. It would be easy for Nintendo to see if I already own a game in their library of available games and allow me to play them without paying for the subscription. They also could make more games they already released on older Eshops and make them playable. The emulator to play old Nintendo games is right there on the Switch! But yeah, why sell the stuff once if they can just rent it to us anew every couple of years.

conciselyverbose,

So their stuff there's no excuse.

Third party stuff they can't do without contracts.

Schaedelbach,

I don’t have an Xbox, so I don’t know if they only offer backwards compatibility for first party games? If no and they offer old third party games, then there is no excuse for Nintendo! If Xbox can do it, the biggest player on the console market can do it!

conciselyverbose,

I don't know if they do.

I do know that if they do, they explicitly had contracts in the past, when the games were published structured in a way that gives them permission to do so now. There is no way for Nintendo to do the same. They would have to negotiate new deals and it's not actually possible to do so for more than a small handful of third party games at absolute best.

Also, Microsoft is a far bigger company than Nintendo.

acastcandream,

You can redownload your purchases on discontinued Nintendo platforms.

You know, I thought you couldn’t on the Wii anymore, but apparently you can…? It’s unclear to me but seems I may have been mistaken when I said you can’t. TIL.

Carter,

It’s quite a common misconception. The Wii Shop channel still works for downloading previously purchases titles for example.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

It's not laziness. Why sell you the games when they can exclusively rent them to you instead?

Come August 2024 I will try to get my old 360 up and running and see if it has Uno.

Important to note, this doesn’t affect online multiplayer or availability on newer consoles, eg you’ll continue to be able to buy, download and play 360 titles on Xbox One / Xbox Series.

acastcandream,

Not all games are BC so a lot of the library won’t be accessible, just to be clear.

Carter, do gaming w The Xbox 360 Store Will Close July 2024, But You Can Keep Playing Your Favorite Games - Xbox Wire

Will this include backwards compatible titles o current systems I wonder?

muddybulldog,

BC titles remain available through the current store.

gk99, do gaming w The Xbox 360 Store Will Close July 2024, But You Can Keep Playing Your Favorite Games - Xbox Wire

Truly the end of an era. :(

Not really though since Xbox has backwards compatibility and a new store for vast amounts of these games. While some have or will be lost thanks to licensing, Xenia is always making progress and is available on newer Xboxes via $20 dev access.

When the PS3 goes, emulation on PC or streaming is the only option

simple, (edited ) do games w Coming to Xbox Game Pass: Starfield, Solar Ash, and Lies of P

Despite the fact that I complained on release that Solar Ash isn’t nearly as good as Hyper Light Drifter, I think it’s a really underrated game. The atmosphere and visuals are incredible, and the platforming is really fun. Hopefully now it’ll get some recognition.

Excited to play Lies of P when it comes out. I’ve been wanting an actually good soulslike for a while.

Very happy this month.

I’ll give Starfield a look, although I’m not usually a Bethesda guy.

Lies of P is where it’s at for me. I’ve been eyeing that one up for months and the fact that it’s day 1 on Gamepass is huge for me.

As for Solar Ash. I played Hyper Light Drifter over the Christmas period last year and fell in love with it. I’ve been waiting for Ash to go on sale on the PS5, but I guess my waiting is over eh?

My friends were trying to get me to play Remnant 2 which is a soulslike. I didn’t like it all that much. Plus, with Diablo, Lies of P, Starfield, Ghostwire, and Baldurs Gate, I just can’t add another game to the list right now.

BartsBigBugBag,

Unless you’ve already bought it I’d rake Ghostwire off the list. It’s… painfully mediocre. In every way, honestly. I was pretty excited for it, but it’s bad. It feels like an original Xbox era game with a new skin of paint over it.

MrJukes,
@MrJukes@lemmy.one avatar

I’m only playing it because my GF has finished it and likes to watch me play it. Same with Lies of P. So I’ll probably drop Ghostwire for Pinocchio when it comes out. Still, Starfield and Baldurs Gate are plenty to keep me busy. Plus maybe finally getting one of my characters to 100 in Diablo…it is such a grind after 70 though…

DeriHunter,

You do realize that lies of p is souls like yeah? And both remnants are treasures I loved them so much

MrJukes,
@MrJukes@lemmy.one avatar

Yeah, thanks for looking out for me :)

I don’t have a problem with soulslikes, I just didn’t enjoy my time in Remnant 2. I did enjoy the demo Lies of P put out a while ago though.

Relentless_Blinky, do xbox w Kairosoft Has Come to Xbox with Five Games Including Game Dev Story - Xbox Wire

Game dev story is amazing played through it multiple times throughout the years super addicting I love it.

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve only played Game Dev Tycoon, how does it compare?

Relentless_Blinky,

Very similar games, game dev tycoon is a little more in depth. This is more of a fast paced micromanaging sim like the other. I originally played it on Mobile and I highly recommend it tho I am biased.

I’ve played both games but by the time I got to game dev tycoon I couldn’t stick with it the way I could with game dev story. You can probably finish this game in 2 or 3 long sessions.

AlexanderTheGreat,
@AlexanderTheGreat@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds like I’ll like it then. Going to give it a buy. Thanks for the review!
