It’s a bad look, and I won’t make excuses for them, but none of this really surprises me, either. I still like their content, and I already understood most of this to be the case by inference without it being spelled out like this. Their coverage has been good enough, and when I need someone to genuinely go hard on the nuts and bolts of a thing, Gamers Nexus is the better choice.
The laptop sponsorship thing is a perfect example. He straight up says he invested in them, which instantly makes the video revealing their latest model a clear extension of that sponsorship. Did I still keep watching? Hell yeah, because the laptop modularity looks awesome. Should I trust everything in the vid is presented objectively without bias?
25 players is not a lot for what they call an MMO. I’m a bit skeptical of the game, but I signed up for the beta and will give it a go. Most games going for an Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley vibe just fail to capture what makes those games special.
If you want a VERY light “elite game” with a much bigger emphasis on space legs with mild to medium amounts of resource grinding? Yeah
I personally can’t tell if the Expeditions system either ruins or makes the game. For those unaware, Expeditions are timed (usually a month or two, right now two weeks) seasonal content with structured progression and a light narrative. Basically a very condensed version of the “campaign” in the base game. So you start a new character bascially every time you play which is fun but also means that there is little to no point in building out a base.
This is a great summary of the game, I just wanted to add on that you don’t necessarily have to start a new character for expeditions. They added the “Expedition Terminus” in the Space Anomaly a few updates back, which lets you start the expedition from an existing save.
That said, I always start a new character, because those first couple hours where I’m trying to get on my feet are always the most challenging for me, and that keeps the game fresh by pushing me outside my usual style of engaging with the game.
Huh. I had heard people were bringing resources in but never really followed through on how. Might be worth keeping a long term game.
And yeah. I like the grind and progression of the expedition. I just would want to bring a couple dozen hyperdrive fuels and a launch drive fuel regen mod into any expedition since that is always where I lose interest. In the base game it is fine to grind as you go. In an expedition it is genuinely frustrating to realize I needed to jump to the OTHER system along the way if I wanted to get the radioactive fish or whatever the hell or I landed too far away from the resource I need for a goal. It just results in me playing something else after having had five or six hours of fun that expedition.
Kind of a random though but do you think we will ever see shows done in a more connected way? I mean as of now, all the shows are always done in secret. Why not involve fans in the process? Publish videos from the set as you film and get feedback? Publish scripts, test footage and so on. Yes, the element of surprise would be lost but wouldn’t it be nice to see how the show is made and they see the final product? And maybe even influence it a little bit? I would love something like that. What do you think?
Edit: interesting. Looks like only I would be interested in seeing how a show is made.
The only reason we watch shows is to get the story. Being spoiled ruins the whole idea of the show. Besides: Even though some showrunners miss the mark, most of the fans ideas of what might come instead are mostly terrible.
Yeah, I don’t know. In the age of remakes, reboots and huge franchises can we really say that we watch shows for the story? Is any of the Marvel movies about the story? You always now how it will end. If you read the script of Guardians of the Galaxy would it really spoil the movie? I think those movies are actually more about ‘being involved’. Same as Star Trek or Star Wars. It’s about following, being a fan. Story is the weakest part of those movies. It’s all about CGI, action sequences and ‘fan stuff’ like callbacks, references and so on. I think showing what’s happening on the green screen wouldn’t actually spoil anything and would be really interesting to the fans.
And regarding fans ideas Sonic comes to mind. They released the trailer, fans complained and it got fixed.
But I not saying that all the shows should be made like this. For some (most?) I wouldn’t work. I’m just saying… wouldn’t it be interesting to see the entire process for a show like this?
There’s evidence that people like stuff just as much even if they know what’s gonna happen, kind of like how placebos often work even if you tell the person.
I think part of why creators don’t include fans in the process is to avoid the possibility of a lawsuit like “I said there should be a super-mutant/brotherhood of steel secret relationship, and they used my idea! I’m entitled to money!”
No not really. There’s a reason you hire experts to do a job and I for instance hates it if someone try’s to explain to me, a designer, what a good design is…
Developers don’t use early access to get feedback on lore, world-building and visual aesthetic. They get feedback on gameplay balance and bugs. A movie/TV studio doesn’t have gameplay, it’s all visual. Apples to oranges comparison
Yes but aren’t game developer experts on gameplay balance? Why would they listen to feedback from some amateurs? It’s the same with movies. People who designed Sonic for the movie were also experts, right? Yet they listed to feedback.
Absolutely love this game. Played it from beginning to end on the PC multiple times over the decades. The original floppy version that is, not the poncy CD version he’s using! 😂
Tht would be wired there’s dune games out all the time. Saw 1 last night with portraits of the current cast. From the screenshot it would make my monkey brain bleed though
I played the Mega Drive/Genesis version when I was a kid and it hooked me so much that I rented it several more times, it was a great game. I always wanted to play the first one too, but I didn’t get to actually play it until a few years ago, awesome game too, maybe better than Dune 2 for me.
I played this one years later. Couldn’t wrap my head around it and after about the 3rd spice delivery I never had enough. Don’t think I got deep enough in to give it a fair crack
Watched this the other day, it’s a good watch if you like lgr and/or have an interest in DOS strategy games. Personally I’d like to see more games experiment with hybrid game styles like this one did.
nothing that jagex does can entice me to use their client aside from banning runelite. don’t know why the went through all the trouble of just recreating runelite but worse and without all the plugin support
i was saying hypothetically, runelite isn’t banned. jagex nuked hd clients and plugins 2 years ago for their own hd but reversed it due to backlash. they took their time on hd for sure.
Idk where it looks great comes from, this looks like the Fallout 76 trailers. So focused on cheesey looking high budget CGI, the colors on the suits look too fresh and vibrant(imo), power armor CGI looks honestly too expressive- not like a hydraulic walking tank.
Edit: I just clicked the link, I think this is a different version of what I watched, this looks much better
