git: ‘gud’ is not a git command. See ‘git -help’.

Norgur,

Why is this not an easter egg at this point?

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Because then it will be lame after a decade.

I cringe at all the Easter eggs and In-jokes of the 80s-90s.

odelik,

Which ones do you cringe at?

I find most of them amusing and witty. Especially things like WINE’s name being a recursion joke.

WINE Is Not an Emulator

Trashcan,

Fyi - “gud” equals god in Norwegian.

So its even more potent 😄

so would it be like the god of gits or a god that is a git? asking for a friend dumb git

Git off discord tho for game development, it ends up causing only the types of people who are really active on discord to interact and give feedback and I have seen that really send some games off the rails as the rest of the playerbase begins to get the vibe the game is being developed for a small sliver of the game’s fans (the ones on discord and really active).

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Seriously. Definitely gives the loudest a place to control how games should work. And when they don’t get their way, they get loud in other places and make drama.

Donut,

Any dev worth their salt knows to balance and weigh the feedback across all channels. Discord is easy for quick troubleshooting and frequently asked questions. I see devs have some issues with Steam forums because of the toxicity, but most still take feedback from there too.

Usually Discord is just a funnel to redirect feedback to an internal backlog though. Together with all the other channels, including in-game reporting tools.

dumpsterlid,

Any dev worth their salt knows to balance and weigh the feedback across all channels. Discord is easy for quick troubleshooting and frequently asked questions.

I am sure most devs who primarily interact with their game’s community through discord believe they are listening to feedback from a variety of sources, but it is clear to me in every case I know of where a game has “join our discord!” plastered all over the store page that functionally the only place where your feedback will actually be taken seriously and get to the devs is discord.

Donut,

That might just be the instant chat nature of Discord and how it’s easier to get a reply on there. I’m sure if you went the classic route of sending email it would be acknowledged as well, generally speaking.

CancerMancer,

One of the biggest mistakes I keep seeing devs make is listening to the no-lifers who live on social media. Especially the content whiners: fuck content, make the game work right first.

TeoTwawki,
@TeoTwawki@lemmy.world avatar

Speaking from experience giving the loudest users real time access to your sanity isn’t great either. Better to corral them into a slower mode of communication, such as an old fashion forum or use githubs “discussions” feature. Then you can spend your weekend on unwinding without a bunch of kids screeching that they’ve been ignored because you missed some message that was checks notes 200 paragraphs of back scrolling.

p.s. its 1000x worse when you inherit this kind of “community” from someone before you who let the monkeys do whatever. All I can say is thank god discord has that slow-mode feature now.

RayOfSunlight, do gaming w Git gud

I hope the dev gets backfired for that, i hate that word, but, which game?

Pechente,

I found the link to the specific review: steamcommunity.com/id/karlino99/…/951930/

givesomefucks,

So it’s a free “game” where you type a word that pops up?

Wonder what the grift is.

StrongHorseWeakNeigh,

I think it’s just a little game to help you learn to type. I don’t think there’s really a grift.

QuantumSparkles,

Honestly if it’s a game where the difficulty is structured around teaching you a skill then the the devs response is actually kinda on point (while also funny). It’s like someone submitting a complaint that the piano is too difficult and the skill bar should be lowered so that they shouldn’t have to just practice and learn to play like everybody else. But I could be wrong (I usually am)

ech,

There’s zero indication that was their comment, though. All they said was they commented “on a feature”, not that it’s too hard.

givesomefucks,

I mean, there aren’t many free games that are actually free…

BeigeAgenda,
@BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca avatar

That depends on what free means, if it’s a GPL game it’s free as in gratis

But your point still stands, we should be weary about free games or apps.

DarkThoughts,

It's either free or a demo.

Kusimulkku,

if it’s a GPL game it’s free as in gratis

But gratis just means you don’t have to pay for it. If it was free as in GPL way it’d be free as in “libre” I think

sukhmel,

I think, it’s the opposite:

another review of the same game, it is positive and the text is just "Lol rekt"

Regarding the griftmaybe the developer just made this for fun and published for others to enjoy? It doesn’t seem like this needs any new features or much maintenance, that would also explain the response on discord: the dev doesn’t care if people like the game or not, it is what it is

Potatos_are_not_friends,

As they should. Sometimes indie games should just be art.

My games (really shitty demos), I’m personally not interested in building a audience or getting mass attention. I just wanna make the game in my head and if it kicks ass for others, sweet.

I loved this game. I grinded for hours and got tons of cash and nice equipment then I reached the point in the game where I think you can finally ride a horse and stopped playing. I should pick this up again. I think I got my save game backed up somewhere, but at this point I’d probably want to start again because I forgot much of the story Lol

Wow I’m so excited for this!!!

I hope the main char is Secretariat (the one from Late late show) who is ridden by a Craig Ferguson that just makes your quests more difficult.

I am currently playing TOME4 on a 64GB machine with NVIDIA RTX A2000 GPU. Although technically this is more like uni for me not childhood, I could probably play this game on a calculator.

Remember when they promised VR support in their Kickstarter and then quietly just didn’t do that?

ZC3rr0r,

I’m hoping it’ll make it in eventually. Kind of like with NMS VR support.

Hubi,
@Hubi@lemmy.world avatar

The whole game was so ambitious for a new and independent studio that I’m surprised that only some minor things like this got scrapped.

Just finished the first episode and I’m excited. Wife wanted to stop for the evening so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow but man I can’t wait to watch more this weekend. I especially liked the Brotherhood of Steal scene.

Edit: Brotherhood of Steel

It’s cursed, it has all of the wierd Bethesda East Coast lore, tone, atmosphere, writing, and style, but on the West Coast, and does the West Coast factions dirty.

It also canonized some absolute bullshit, but this isn’t a spoiler thread, is it?

DragonTypeWyvern,

I knew Bethesda would one day come for the West Coast canon.

Oh, well. At least we won’t have to argue with a new generation of nerds who missed all the points and blatantly support the fascist factions.

Amazing season. The only thing holding it back (and the only reason I might hold back on hyping a season 2) is the fact that New Vegas isn’t canon anymore. What the fuck guys.

FilthyShrooms,

What do you mean NV isn’t Canon anymore? >!The show takes place 15 years after the game, plenty could have happened since then!<

aram855,

!I was open to the possibility that things might have gotten to hell after NV, and personally always considered the DUST mod as canon because of it. But apparently they moved the fall of the NCR back to 2277, when F3 took place, before the events of NV. I know people are saying “but it could mean decline!”, but its still weird considering that the NCR we see in NV is still powerfull and active, not a society near collapse. No NCR character in the game ever makes any reference to Shady Sands being abandoned or in ruins or fallen. Its still talked as the heart of the nation. The entire objective of the NCR with Hoover Dam is to provide cheap electriciy to Shady Sands as well. And making New Vegas be a destroyed ruin is still equal to retcon, since it means nothing in the game has any impact whatsoever. No choice is canon, since it doesnt matter:, it all blew up a second later!<

LETS FUCKING GOOO.

I try not to get too hyped about new game releases because well a lot tend to be bad, but I loved the first game and hope this is better.
