My third time through factorio. This time with K2+SE mods. It’s taking a long time. Most of the time I’m waiting for my rockets and leave it afk for hours. Total play time 800+ hours, most of which I swear is afk! I’ve almost set up an outpost for every resource now, so that should make my life much much easier.

Recycling my comment from the other day. I am close to finishing The Outer Worlds. The game has a somewhat mixed reception when it comes up in discussions online and I think it’s mostly because the developer Obsidian made New Vegas and Outer Worlds apparently is the worse game. So, I never played New Vegas and therefore can’t compare the two. I do enjoy my time with Outer Worlds very much!

  • it’s basically the same formula as Fallout 4 but in a humorous space setting with better gunplay. Or, alternatively Borderlands with a ton more talking and decisions and worse gunplay. In any case a lot of shooting and looting.
  • different builds are possible but not as significant different as in Borderlands. But since it’s not a massively big game it didn’t matter that much to me. After a couple of changes I kinda kept investing mostly in my handgun, my companions and personality skills to pass more skillchecks.
  • what I like: the stories the game tells! Be it the main quest line or quests for factions or your companions. All have a nice sense of humor to them without getting too silly. For example there is a dude in a wurst factory and you get sent there to end whatever he is doing there (hint: it’s more than producing wurst from spacepigs). And there are a number of ways you can approach this: guns blazing, trying to sabotage the factory or sneak in and just kill the guy.
  • also: great soundtrack and overall sound design! The jingle that plays when you level up is just great!
  • also: while not a massive big game there are a lot of different places to go and explore. From abandoned settlements in some sort of desert to a big city where only rich people live and everything in between.
  • meh: so many drinks, lotions and food items that give you different boosts. Problem is that there are so many different items it’s hard to keep track which one does what. I abandoned pretty much all of them and only kept Adreno (restores energy).
  • meh: fast travel can be annoying because most of the time you have to fast travel back to your ship and then from there select another planet/spacestation and then land your ship and then again fast travel to wherever you need to go to. So it’s potentially three (not very long, though) loading screens if you need to go someplace different.
  • decisions do matter in quests but the general direction of the story is set.
retrieval4558,

I accidentally bought the outer worlds mistaking it for the outer wilds. I beat it but was annoyed the whole time lol.

DelvianSeek,

Played Outer Worlds earlier this year, and I agree with your assessment. I did play Fallout New Vegas later on, and while New Vegas felt bigger, I think I enjoyed Outer Worlds a bit more. Mainly I think the humor hit more consistently FOR ME in OW, and I really think the humor kind of makes the game. But of course humor is very subjective, so I understand why a lot of people prefer FNV (not to mention it has a certain built-in cachet from all the other Fallout games).

Anyway, I enjoyed it, I’m glad I played it through to the end, but I wouldn’t play it again (e.g. to try different playstyles or run through with different companions). Glad you are also enjoying it!

thanks for the tip and support!

Pom Poko is one of my favorite movies, and the Shiren 5 article is practically inspired by the movie.

F-Zero 99.

I know a lot of people are writing it off because it’s not a GX remaster, a full new game, or they’ve just lost interest in 99 games and think they’re all generic, but Nintendo’s been clear that they aren’t interested in giving the franchise another shot after GP Legend, the anime and Climax tanked. I’ll gladly take a small budget F-Zero, and F-Zero 99 is just great.

F-Zero 99 takes every question you’d have about translating F-Zero to multiplayer and just makes it work, with 99 players as well. Rivals and other stat tracking like rank in your machine all gives newer players more achievable goals to work towards instead of just having to flat out lose every round until they “git gud”.

Switching to the boost = health mechanic of the later games was also a great choose, since it’s a more forgiving version of boost, while also adding some risk-reward. You could burn though all your boost and refill when you get the chance, but that puts you at risk of dying. Expanding the boost meter with KO’s is also great, since it encourages the player to actually partake in a death race for the most optimal performance, especially in Grand Prix where the meter gain persists over tracks.

The Sky Rail, while an obvious concession for 99 players, still works great as a rubber banding mechanic since it gives players who are behind the chance to jump the pack and have another shot at climbing the ranks. Meanwhile the bumpers/turbo snails that only spawn towards the from of the rankings ensure that if you do jump you actually have to demonstrate skill to keep that lead and that truly better players aren’t just robbed. Not being able to use your regular boost and keep the sky rail meter is great as well, since it just adds more of the risk-reward in deciding to use it now to get access to your boost again, vs saving it for it’s most optimal spot.

It’s just a fantastically designed game. It really captures everything great about F-Zero, and as a big fan I’m thrilled to have it. I just hope it doesn’t get Mario 35’d, and that Nintendo pays attention to it’s reception and rethinks their stance on F-Zero.

Just finished Goodbye Volcano High. The game is absolutely magical and managed to exceed my already high excpectations. Beautiful story about growing up, finding yourself and also a little bit about the end of the world with a sprinkle of dream-pop. I would say, it is pretty much on par with Night in the Woods or Life is Strange, so if you like this kind of narrative games, definitely give it a go.

Currently Final Fantasy XV, honestly I want to like this game but it feels like such a chore to play and it’s really disheartening.

It has the spirit but honestly I am about to turn off the voices because they talk WAY too much and WAY too repetitively.

Also the side quests are way too unbalanced and the distance and time to take to go back and forth.

The day/night cycle is a bit intrusive though and it goes way too quickly imo.

The Chocobo riding is adorable and I love seeing “Con KWEH tulations!” as it makes me want to keep going.

It’s my fourth time trying to play the game and I’m further than I was at Chapter 4, but I need something soon to keep me going.

The chocobo’s may be the saving grace haha

I want to give this a try but there are soany games to play right now!

Pistcow,

The first chapter boss only took me a week to beat!

QuantumEyetanglement,

Same! That boss was brutal. I may have jumped for joy when I finally beat 'em

Pistcow,

Tank and 4 lasers and click 4 buttons at the same time for a minute straight seemed to do it for me…

Recently I’ve been playing a massive minecraft map called Drehmal, which got a big update a few weeks ago. It’s kinda like if someone made an elder scrolls game in minecraft, with lots of exploring, loot and lore to find. Unfortunately I think something about the map, either the mods needed to play it or the size, doesn’t agree with my computer and I will get a crash after a few hours of play. So maybe I should find something else.

Finally finished a few things that were keeping me working at home after work and was able to dive back into Mass Effect 2 (in the remastered trilogy). I’m enjoying it a lot, I just recruited the final squad member.

Before that, I did the missions on the Krogan homeworld and really enjoyed seeing how my companion from ME 1 is doing. I also like my Krogan squad member a lot, so it was nice.
