I wanna believe things are getting better. I have had women speak in my dota games a few times recently and havent seen anything weird. Though to be fair, the average age of dota player is pretty high. so maybe this is why.
I think this is the main reason. Without googling anything I’d say the average age of a dota 2 player is at least 19 (if not more) compared to 14-15 for other games.
I haven’t played for a couple years but from what I remember out of thousands of hours playing I only heard a woman speak a small handful of times, it was always very surprising
Oh I’m not saying a female player is common, all I’m saying is that people don’t treat them poorly. I have played with a girlfriend a couple of years ago and we had zero poor interactions. There are toxic people but they are toxic towards everyone. Nothing specific to female players.
DOTA 2 gave me a Stalker on Steam. Also a lot of inappropriate comments and insults. You also get automatically blamed more. I only play with friends now.
I don’t play games as much as I used to, but I had a lot of fun recently with Carrion - you play an alien hive mind eating scientists and fighting security through an Area 51 style facility.
I played that on Game Pass, when it launched, and really liked it. Although some of the movement could be a bit frustrating, since you are just a blob of meat.
ive heard good things but i havent checked it out! know if its reasonably playable by one’s lonesome? i work shift work which makes coordinating game time with friends pretty hard.
I love Paradox games so much but my god yes. After Stellaris I vowed to never buy one of their games again. It INFURIATED me that they had a thing you could buy that was specifically for all the DLC and then released more DLC and didn’t include it in that first pack. Made you buy them all individual or to buy a Season Pass which wasn’t mentioned or noted or even suggested would be happening.
Pricks.
Which sucks so much because Surviving Mars is one of my favorite games of all time.
I have no idea what happened with the development of that game in any fashion. I just bought it and like what I played. I never looked into it because I figured most of it was going to be Paradox being Paradox.
Yeah, but it’s a sustainable model that allows for longtime development and product lifetime. It’s also completely voluntary since base + utopia + synthetic dawn are 85% of all worthwhile content on their own
Like, microtransactions are garbage, but the industry has shifted to a point where you’re out if you don’t have a long term payment model. The paradox model at least puts a cap on what the whales can pay, and actually gives them more content in return.
It’s the least bad model out there. At least for companies too big to pull a factorio/terraria
I’d agree if they didn’t release a new DLC every two weeks after dropping season passes. There’s a difference between taking advantage of a sustainable business model and then being a money grubby shitbag of a company.
Also, a better sustainable business model would be to develop full games that people can enjoy over a longer period of time instead of needing to constantly tempt them back with new drops that arguably should have been part of the game from the beginning.
But then still, most people wouldn’t pay over the standard full price of a game, no matter how big it is. So that’s actually less sustainable for a company
TBH I much prefer the cosmetic micro transaction and even loot boxes to this system. Because now you’re locked out of content if you don’t pay extra, while with the other models don’t screw over the players who don’t want to/can’t pay
So? I don’t care what it’s associated with because 1) I’m not a homophobe 2) the color spectrum is neat. All the colors we can see, represented in a neat continuum. It’s just pleasing to the eye.
What’s crazy to me is that the game looks as good as it does on a surface level. It doesn’t immediately stand out as a “This is a garbage game that is going to lead to a studio closure”, at least until you see the person actually play the game.
I think we’re going to see a lot more of those types of games in the future. It’s pretty easy to make a decent looking game with UE 5 - still doesn’t give it any soul though.
Yeah, look at Starfield. It has really nice looking textures and objects. Everything else is a disappointment or mediocre. Maybe excepting the Ship Builder feature.
It’s also worth noting that they used UE5 store assets rather than making their own art. It may look decent in a single screenshot but games made like this often have an incohesive art direction and can’t match the quality with their own work.
I’m still playing the hell outta Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve played through so many times, have multiple multiplayer campaigns going on, and I’m just having a lot of fun with mods.
I about 120 hours paly time and still on Act 1 in Baldur's Gate 3. I have a problem. I want to pick up everything and sell it. That takes a lot of time. I also switch my party around all the time to try to work companions quests
I think most people pick a group and stick with that group. Also most people don't need to pick up a fork and sell it. I may have to change my play style it i want to finish the game anytime soon.
Oh and I am loving this game. It plays very well with my Ubuntu/Nvidia/Steam PC.
Achievement Enabler, the Mod Fixer, and the Native Mod Loader are all also helpful, though I’m not entirely sure they are needed for the UI mods, though it doesn’t hurt to have them. The Achievement Enabler allows you to still earn achievements with mods if that wasn’t obvious, and the native mod loader allows the game to load the achievement enabler.
Beyond that, I’d recommend just looking around on Nexus. There are thousands to look through, ranging from improving classes and races to adding spells to straight up making you a god.
Looks like it borrows heavily from some of the best of the open world action/arpg genre - The Witcher, RDR2, Assassin’s Creed, Elden Ring, and BOTW, even a touch of Shadow of the Colossus in there. If it’s as polished as any of its inspirations, it’ll be a banger.
Why are people pretending baulders gate is the only high selling game with no microtransactions as of late? Off the top of my head Elden Ring and Tears of the Kingdom both released in the last year or so, no microtransactions or dlc as of now.
