That shirtless guy in Morrowwind was an asshole. Sending some kid into a basement to fight giant rats well knowing that it’d be their first battle and likely not surviving, while he stayed at home shirtless and well fit to remove those pestering rats, just pretending to be an alcoholic or something.

ceenote,

puffs skooma

Sorry for being a job creator, n’wah.

Snowclone,

You lazy N’wahs are all the same.

ceenote,

I’m not your n’wah, fetcher.

ArmoredThirteen,

Wasn’t that the first fighters guild quest and the rats are ground floor and in an attic?

bstix,

Maybe. It’s been a long time since I played it.

ArmoredThirteen,

I mean your whole argument still stands though because iirc correctly the first real quest he gives is the “go into the bandit filled murder robot dungeon and find a tiny ass Rubik’s cube”

IronKrill,
@IronKrill@lemmy.ca avatar

iirc correctly

RIP in peace.

ArmoredThirteen,

Damn I’m usually good about not messing that one up x.x

I’m going to head off to the ATM machine now, get cash for a French dip with au jus juice to help eat my mistakes away away

zero_spelled_with_an_ecks,

Thought you meant Saint Jiub at first, who wakes you on the boat and is also shirtless. Lots of shirtless dudes in the start of Morrowind.

Fucking weebs always thinking it’s about them. Never has there been another group of people that mistake references as much as weebs. Throughout the years I’ve seen replies thinking references from The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Halo are actually references to some anime crap, when the things from the anime crap were actually a reference to the originals mentioned.

I hate weebs and anime so much.

I don’t remember any FF game having a rat killing side quest even at the beginning of the game, let alone at the end after you’ve killed gods. Shit… I don’t even recall FF having side quests at all until, like, 7 with the optional boss battles for powerful materia.

Killing rats is more of a western RPG trope.

fontane,

The very first thing you do as Vaan in FF12 is kill rats. Old Dalan even calls you Vaan Ratsbane when you meet him.

Katana314,

Trails in the Sky definitely comes to mind. But if you browse Square Enix’s catalogue, there’s probably plenty that fulfill it. Final Fantasy stands out because it’s a little less tropey.

cholesterol, do gaming w Every jrpg

Actually pretty close to BG 1/2. I think there’s rat-killing in Candlekeep, and you end up killing a near-godess.

nxdefiant,

Same for 3, but the rat killing doesn’t happen until near the end.

42yeah,

tbf these rats actually hit kinda hard

Rai, do gaming w Every jrpg

Defo Final Fantasy Legends.

sundray,

And if you’re lucky, you get to eat the rats afterward.

Rai,

Don’t forget your saw

FiniteBanjo, do gaming w Every jrpg

Well

If any villagers were even still alive.

Sorry DA:O family estate, workers, and also my bisexual lovers, rest well knowing that I carried out your vengeance. I guess I also kind of avenged any rats who survived my slaughter, too, huh? Does that make us even?

MagnyusG, do gaming w Every jrpg

What about the guy seeing a group of adventurers kill god and then telling them to kill rats?

MikeOToxin,

Roveer?

MikeOToxin, do gaming w Every jrpg

Roveer in BG3 when you’ve literally already killed a God’s avatar: “RATS!”

HornyOnMain, do gaming w They're doing Civ 7 already

"Already" is doing a lot of heavy lifting, by the time the game comes out it will have been 9 years since Civ 6. That's 3 years longer than the gap between 5 and 6 which is the next longest gap in the series. At this point they're vastly limited in the things they can do without a complete overhaul on base mechanics we've been playing with for nearly a decade.

Would you rather they completely overhaul the current game and the original mechanics be lost to time? Of course not, the obvious next step is to make a new game.

Nefara,

I’ll give you that it’s been longer than I realized since the base game came out, however, Beyond Earth came out 10 years ago (2014) and Alpha Centauri was 25 years ago.

Damage,

9 years

wtf

Noodle07, do gaming w Counter Strike

That looked expensive

Alexstarfire,

But now it’s 25% off.

It looks like particle board with a veneer. Probably a cheap remodel job that got a larger piece than they needed and didn’t have the chops to cut it down themselves, so they just said fuck it and had 2 foot of overhang with no support.

People do spend 100s of dollars on their gaming PCs. I can only assume that stands for Playing Counters.

What was the expansion pack where you could play as aliens called?

Ioughttamow,

Crossfire? iirc

Edit: alien crossfire

Sword of the Samurai and Covert Action fans have long since given up.

blindbunny, do gaming w They're doing Civ 7 already

Tbf alpha centari still works perfectly fine

Veraxus,

I want that game - exactly as it is - but with new, modern graphics. AC+AX is about as perfect as a game can possibly get. Just needs a fresh coat of paint.

blindbunny,

You know what I just remembered it doesn’t support my wide screen so yeah why the hell not.

Murdoc,

A little bit better controls and stuff too, but yeah, the story, characters, unit customization, etc. was all top-notch.

RizzRustbolt,

Also… more Mindworms.

marcos, do gaming w They're doing Civ 7 already

There was a ridiculous, completely unbalanced version they published just after Alpha Centauri where the most powerful unit was a van-looking ecoterrorism thing that transformed everything around it into forest.

They could make a sequel to that one instead.

Murdoc,

You mean Civilization: Call to Power. The unit was called the Eco Ranger. And they did make a sequel to it, called Call to Power 2. In some ways it was better, some worse. That being said, CTP1 is my favorite civ of all time (not counting SMAC). They should definitely make another sequel if they can keep the stuff that made it great. Kills me that I can’t get a modern working version of the original somewhere.

Cardboardboxo, do gaming w They're doing Civ 7 already

Me waiting on a sequel to Sid Meier’s Pirates.

RebekahWSD,
@RebekahWSD@lemmy.world avatar

I sent an email thanking them for making Sid Meier’s Pirates! and they sent an email back thanking me for my interest and that no new game was planned. Which…wasn’t my email, but still very sad!
