albbi, do gaming w GOG now using AI generated images on their store

I read GOG but thought it must’ve been Epic.

reksas, do gaming w GOG now using AI generated images on their store

why must everyone insist on the ai bullshit? are they really that blind to how populace views it? Not using it and actively refusing to use it would be beneficial instead as it would set you apart from others and literally cost nothing, or infact less than nothing since you wouldnt have to pay for the grifters to include their bullshit in whatever you are doing.

This is incredibly disappointing...

carotte, do gaming w GOG now using AI generated images on their store

if it’s any consolation, some people at GOG don’t like it either, so maybe they’ll revert this and won’t do it again

this sucks, still. to me this just sends the message that GOG doesn’t care and will not put much effort into what they do. that’s not a good message to send when you’re selling yourself as a games preservation platform…

MountingSuspicion,

There’s a post elsewhere with an excerpt from a job posting for GOG devs that paints a bleaker picture. In the post they state you need to be familiar with AI tools and encourage the use in your team. I think they’re in it too deep at this point.

ElectroLisa,

yep it was listed under their senior c++ dev offer, the one people got hyped about as it mentioned Linux software deployment as a requirement

Heaven forbid actually paying an artist to make your stupid banner.

pimento64,

Or just making a simple one with surprisingly little required aptitude. Or just using a public domain image and cropping it. Or best of all, using one they already had.

MountingSuspicion,

Yes! Exactly this! Does anyone remember those big “SALE” signs stores used to have? It just said the word sale in big bold letters. Nothing else. It’s a sale. I really don’t need a fancy graphic to encourage me to potentially save money if I was going to buy the games anyway or to get new games on the cheap.

Paradachshund,

I’m a graphic designer, and I’ve been kind of amazed how many people like to show me the graphic/logo/whatever AI made for them. They don’t seem to get that they’re just rubbing in my face that they don’t want to pay an artist…

It always looks kinda crappy too, so I just have to fake the reaction all around.

Krauerking,

Don’t fake it. Be honest.

I dunno, that has been what I have been doing and nothing kills the light in their eyes like honesty.

Paradachshund,

Not always a good plan when you’re managing business relationships. It’s great when you can have that kind of dialog with a client, but diplomacy is a tricky dance sometimes.

Admetus,

The amazing thing is that people generated AI art and then say

I generated some AI art.”

No you didn’t, you told an AI model what to make using what is virtually search terms and some constraints.

counterfactual,

Epistemologically correct way to phrase that, actually. They had the idea, they expressed it, and they refined it into an output they were hoping for. It’s no different in methodology, just different in participation and self-effort.

You semantics-warriors wouldn’t understand that if it hit you in the head like a sack of bricks though.

TehPers, do gaming w Valve amended the Steam survey for December 2025 - Linux actually hit another all-time high

Looks like mostly SteamOS users, which isn’t too surprising. Hopefully we can see that number go up over time as people get sick of Windows.

Slightly off topic, but it looks like they reopened the forums!

“by the way”?

240 games, only 10 reviews out of which only 2 are negative.

Unless game is either really great or really bad, I skip leaving a review. I am sure most do exactly the same.

Of course they have. They want Microsoft’s AI-generated Quake. Ooof course.

Another on the list for “no marketers, I refuse to get hyped about anything when your company is probably just going to kill the project”

Goodeye8,

I think it’s less of a case of them killing the project as them just being done with it. The game still runs and the git is public. The only thing that has changed is that Nvidia won’t be working on it any more. The project hasn’t been killed, anyone can fork it and continue the work if they want to.

There’s no downside for consumers, sucks if you are making art for an oversaturated market.

But that’s why artists should get a UBI

SkyezOpen,

When I am supreme overlord, artists will get free food and housing. But like, it’s gonna suck really bad because tortured artists make the best art.

SkaveRat,

Rcklsabndn,

: warms up netti pot:

I am immune to your punishment.

PearOfJudes,

No not UBI, but universal necessities to live. ie food water electricity housing healthcare and for all people not just artists.

UBI is a bandaid solution where money is taken from the government and given to corporations when governments should supply those necessities itself.

SoftestSapphic,
@SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world avatar

Money can be exchanged for needs.

It works fine to distribute resources.

krooklochurm,

Uni has nothing to do with corporations though?

It’s everyone getting enough money to live comfortably

Rcklsabndn,

I think it’s more efficient if people get a few hundred dollar boost every week to spend when and wherever they please, rather then stand in line and receive whatever obtuse handout the government has decided they deserve.

PearOfJudes,

For Literally everything but food the government can supply everything without standing in line. You are right though, I believe SNAP in America is a largely efficient organisation that takes an already convenient system of food distribution and allows the person to buy things at a grocery store like everybody else. I guess in society it’s also important that SNAP or other beneficiaries feel normal as well.

One of those things people waste energy getting concerned about. Better than highly stringent curation that has no chance in being representative of all different taste/demographics. It’s a more level playing field. Happened to music and books. Then video/movies. Video games followed quickly after. Better than the days of payments for every patch you push through Xbox live/PSN. Better than needing to get 35mm prints and access to theaters
