Nullify9964, do gaming w The creators of RPCS3 are working on a Playstation 4 emulator

How is the PS3 emulator these days? It’ll be interesting to see how these guys do with PS4 since the console has a different architecture.

Irisos,

It’s really good. There are some issues here and there like some games not launching when using upscaling or some non default settings.

But otherwise, most games run on it and better than on PS3 with recent CPUs.

A lesson in what not to do when making a LOTR game?

TwilightVulpine,

A lesson to use the right studios for the right projects. Daedalic Entertainment could have made a really fun 2D point-and-click adventure game set in The Lord of the Rings world, maybe even about Gollum. But a game like this was definitely not the right format and too large a scope for them.

Boabab,
@Boabab@kbin.social avatar

My thoughts exactly. Deadalic is an awesome studio with some of the best point-n-click games, an IMO underrated niche genre and some great other unique games. However, they are not the kind of studio for a games like Gollum. Every studio (and even every person working at that studio) has it's own strengths and weaknesses. By utilizing that strengths and weaknesses correctly, you can make great games. It's a shame they got a bad rep because they didn't do that with this game.

Ganondorf,
@Ganondorf@kbin.social avatar

On paper, the concept sounded really unique and cool for a LOTR game. It's unfortunate the wrong studio was in charge of it.

That’s nice, maybe I’ll buy it on sale for $5 one day.

kostel_thecreed,

I feel as if it is worth the price its currently at. I got 60 hours out of it, without even doing 100% of the acheivements.

BakedGoods,

Sure but they put Denuvo on it so they pay the asshole-tax.

Since you’ve played it, I do have a couple of questions.

1). I haven’t played really any JRPGs before so is this game friendly to newcomers or not really? It looks really beautiful and that caught my eye when I first saw it

2). Do I need to play the previous one to understand what’s going on?

kostel_thecreed,

It was also my first JRPG, and I would say it’s pretty easy to grasp the concepts of it.

No, it’s a separate story line.

This is amazing but I wish that more work would go into making it more stable and bug-free. Quite a few times now I’ve had to stop playing due to crashes and bugs.

ADHDefy,
@ADHDefy@kbin.social avatar

No stability.

Only graphic.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

That hasn’t really been my experience. If you just want to play the game you can stick to the performance, anti-crash, stability and bug fix mods and have a very stable game.

Learning to expand your load order beyond that can be exhausting (and probably takes some work in Wrye Flash and xEdit), but I played through the entire campaign and all DLCs last year with like 400+ mods and had no crashes and only one real bug.

FracturedEel,

Did you have to use wrye bash a lot? I just used it a couple times last year for skyrim I think and I’ve never used xedit are they pretty simple?

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

It depends on what types of mods you have installed, and when they came out. Leveled lists used to be a reason, but many modern F:NV mods instead add entries to leveled lists via scripts on startup (thanks JIP!) and so are all compatible with each other.

I needed Bash for Cell edits primarily, because I wanted to use the old Interior Lighting Overhaul since I think it looks better than the newer scripted ones.

Wrye Flash is also great to combine patches into a single file to keep the load order down. Even with the mod limit remover, F:NV gets unstable if it has too many .esp’s loaded. The patch combining feature is automatic and easy to use.

I did spend a huge amount of time creating a personal compatibility patch in xEdit. It’s extremely simple to do manually once you learn it, but can take time. I had several overhauls like CCO and Vicious Wastes that I wanted to combine, with overlaps where I wanted to use the CCO version for some things and the VW for others, for example. I also had to do some manual edits to make sure I got the Brave New World faces and voices working with New Vegas Redesigned 3, the auto-patch missed some.

WallSoGB really just burst onto the scene last year and established himself as one of the absolute top tier FNV modders alongside lStewieAl, Xilandro et al.

Incredible the things people are doing with this game. We got true picture-in-picture scopes earlier this year, now real time reflections. What’s next?

@SpeziSuchtel@feddit.de avatar

Wow, and thats why I don’t trust them with FiveM. They will run it into the ground so people can float back to their shitty version of GTA Online

DarkThoughts,

Really sad. GTA Online in principle sounds so cool, but it's such a shitty execution. I'm sure if modded servers were encouraged I'd find something to my liking but the way this rotten piece of shit company treats modders is just despicable, and always has been.

conciselyverbose,

You say "shitty"; they say "lucrative".

A lot of stuff is Iike that. Ultimate Team in Madden or FIFA, without the monetization, could potentially be one hell of a game mode (though also maybe hard to balance). The idea of being able to build out a team to your personal preferences and play style and match up against others head to head is awesome.

But "fuck you, we want users dropping $10k on their team", so we can't have nice things.

DarkThoughts,

I believe my last time playing FIFA was on the PSX. I vaguely heard something about loot box style booster packs to get players I think? Imagine Nintendo would do that with Pokemon, and all the good & rare ones would be super rare, but you could of course buy packs for real money. 🎰

conciselyverbose,

That's basically what ultimate team is in practice.

If it had no cash involved and was either tuned to a level where a normal person could build a team that was competitive at the high end in a month or so (since it is, ultimately, an annual game) or you just had a budget and could sign who you wanted (based on "market value" that was set based on overall rating and position or that fluctuated with how many people had a guy on their roster), it could be awesome.

But yeah, it's basically a card game (that I think also has cards expire, though I don't play it at all) that's designed to milk whales for cash. And they replaced a lot of the normal Madden tournaments you could win money playing to use this nonsense mode instead.

The only semi-saving grace is that it's mostly self contained. There are obnoxious ads for it, and other game modes haven't seen the development work they should because they spend most of the non-engine work on that nonsense, but you can still just play online head to head of a great football sim if you tune out the nonsense.

It's super scummy and I would love to see legal involvement shut it all down. Lootboxes are unregulated gambling and in sports games specifically they're very obviously targeting kids.

conciselyverbose,

I lied. One more obnoxious probable side effect: FIFA has new anticheat that's Windows only and I'm guessing the new Madden might also.

DarkThoughts,

Yeah. I already don't do trading card games because of this. Having an expiration date on the cards sounds even dumber. Kinda sad how everything nowadays has to get milked into oblivion. Really kills the fun of many games, but unfortunately people still buy into it. Reminds me also how "micro" transactions ended up ruining the mmorpg genre. Everything is just so over-commercialized nowadays (same for the internet).

conciselyverbose,

So I think it was "games played" "contracts" and there were ways to earn extensions through normal play when I briefly played the single player part a while back. I recognized the giant trap for what it was and bailed and am not sure the current state, but if it did exist and is scummy and makes them more money, I'd be surprised if they walked it back.
