l haven’t played Planet Coaster, but my impression was it’s more of a coaster builder than a theme park manager? A lot of “hardcore” players play OpenRCT 2, and for a slightly more modern take on the genre there’s Parkitect. But classic RCT hasn’t been replaced
I wouldn’t know, I’m a filthy casual. Parkitect never did it for me, but Planet Coaster did. The point is nobody’s making a new Rollercoaster Tycoon under that name, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t worthy successors from competitors.
Cities Skylines is a better example, I remember how much Sim City sucked, but Cities Skylines knocked it out of the park
Skylines is ok, it never clicked for me, consider it more of a city painter than a management game… That plus Paradox’ DLC policy made the game quite unattractive to me rather quickly. And it was very car-centric.
Unfortunately, I’m unaware of a serious contender.
I watched the LGR Video then saw this and it looks bleak. EA promised to update the NHL series into the new Frostbite engine and all we got was the same game with the same glitches plus a bunch of new ones and longer load times. Even now like 4 years later it’s not worth playing, a total mess. A real shame Life By You got cancelled I had that on my wishlist and it looked almost finished…
I still play Sims 3 with the entire pirate pack from time to time, guess the tradition will continue for now
It's an attempt at piggybacking off the success of the first game, but they don't take the time to understand why it was successful and if a sequel is needed. I'd love to see devs try something new when they find success instead of just pumping out a number 2.
I read it more like they did well, but after a decade making the same game in a couple of iterations, they just want to be done. So sell the company, make 10x what you could running it, and just head on out.
10yo me realized that other sized batteries that were also 1.5v could be used as well if I had enough tape and aluminum foil, so then all the flashlight D batteries around the house started to go missing as well.
I had a plug that went with rechargeable batteries or something, and it was great for a while, but then the connector failed and if I moved at all the gameboy would turn off. very frustrating.
NiMH is perfect for an application like this, where the power draw is high but you don’t need the batteries to retain charge while in standby for that long, so the high self-discharge rate is irrelevant.
I think there’s better patterns RPGs can use for them.
A lot of games now just put them wandering the world, and touching/attacking them prompts combat. Then, the game needs to invent various motivations for you to actually want to attack the enemy.
In a lot of games, they’re just genuinely in the way through tight corridors to a destination. A better approach can be to associate some kind of minor quest reward to directly pursuing the enemies.
But, then you get the problem that a lot of RPGs just have no interesting decisions to make in combat. And, participating in combat can lead to a slow wearing down of the party’s mana points, or the game’s equivalent. In many games, you only want to use the basic cure spell and auto-attack because you’ll survive fewer fights without mana rationing. It becomes counter-intuitive and less fun.
Some games resolve this well. Cosmic Star Heroine for instance, a short indie JRPG, heals you after every fight, and each combat is uniquely scripted in for pacing much like Chrono Triggwr.
Got myself a Switch and started playing Cult of the Lamb and Jack Jeanne! Cult of the Lamb is incredibly fun, and I’ve just started the second dungeon~
W odróżnieniu od pozostałych piszących – choć, przepraszam, nie podam lepszej alternatywy, też aktualnie researchuję temat – to chyba nie polecam jednak NextClouda. Odniosłem wrażenie, że to nie jest jeszcze dopracowany, dojrzały i stabilny projekt – może właśnie przez jego rozrost, feature creep. Baikal i Radicale także wystąpiły w rekomendacjach. Przystępny docker do nextclouda w jednym kontenerze, z lokalną bazą danych: github.com/linuxserver/docker-nextcloud . Do prostych zastosowań dla jednego użytkownika, typu właśnie kalendarz - działa wystarczająco dobrze.
It makes money so it’s not dead. People using it and playing it are the reason. It would only flop if people weren’t giving them tons of money. It’s the hard truth one’s got to acknowledge.
