rambaroo, do gaming w Steam is a buggy mess.

I don’t have any advice, but I’m seeing bugs even in Windows. The right click menu in the system tray isn’t sized properly so half of it is cut off and there’s no way to select the cut off menu options, even with keyboard input.

I have to open up the entire app just to exit steam. I’ve seen other UI bugs too.

I think the new UI is nice overall but it’s very buggy. Might not even be an issue with Linux, just a buggy app.

Maybe this will fix your issue? It enables the full right click menu without the “show more” garbage. I’m on windows 11 22h2 and it’s working fine for me. Never had an issue with it that I’m aware of.

edit that I misread your message and this isn’t really relevant at all to your issue. but the “show more” button is super annoying so i didn’t delete my reply incase someone else is annoyed by it.

GiantPacificOctopus, do gaming w Actual Hidden Gems on Steam

I really love sunless sea and sunless skies. They are so beautiful and story rich. Extremely simple game mechanics. You basically explore an unknown map, uncover the story, make choices and allegiances and do your best to survive.

Hieracosphinx,

Have you played A House of Many Doors? It’s very similar to the Sunless games, although not as polished.

Dymonika,

I personally found Sunless Sea to get boring after a while to the point of giving up on it. I think DREDGE might be more appealing, though I haven’t played it: store.steampowered.com/app/1562430/DREDGE/

ColdSilenceAtrophies,

DREDGE is great, and does overlap with Sunless Seas in some ways, but is nowhere near as story driven (or weird). That said, it’s a lot easier/more forgiving, and has a simpler (and potentially more engaging) main gameplay loop.

I love the Sunless/Fallen London setting, and really wish Seas had some of the improvements of Skies, as I think I prefer the setting of Seas, but I’ve found it hard to go back to, having played Skies.

GiantPacificOctopus,

Agreed, sunless skies feels so much richer. Especially with the zubmariner portion.

noxypaws, do gaming w The oldest Minecraft server, MinecraftOnline, is being shut down by Microsoft

Aside from my concerns about the kind of shit libertarians think counts as free speech, how the hell would Microsoft implement a ban on a Minecraft server that Microsoft doesn’t host?

Like I assume it’s just connecting to the server by hostname or IP. What are they gonna do, hardcode the server’s known IPs and hostnames and prevent connections??

Kolanaki, do gaming w The oldest Minecraft server, MinecraftOnline, is being shut down by Microsoft
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

If it’s one of the oldest ones, I assume it’s for Java, which means it’s entirely run by the server operator and not one of those shitty 3rd party hosted servers you can rent out from within Bedrock.

I don’t remember ever seeing anything about how you need to run a server of your own in compliance with Mojang’s rules in the EULA or TOS.

There’s always Don’t Starve which definitely fits the mood, though I’ve always found that game insanely difficult.

Is “Fireman Stripper” a sustainable job in Zombie apocalypse? Just curious…

Oooh, Cable is back! According to the lore, do the characters just move from one world to another or is that some other guy with some other adopted son Cable?

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

We haven’t really made a lore explanation for it. They are the same character we know, but as far as continuity, we make references though to previous “lore events” though and treat it like it’s just another day of the zombie apocalypse. I guess if i had to try and explain it, some unexplained event happened that caused Jerry and Cable to have to start over?

Jerry and Cable in Baldurs Gate was a Dimension hop though

@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

Like Saturday morning cartoons, each day is unique!

We can treat the dimension hop as Christmas special crossover episode 😀

warmaster, do games w When was the last time you actually laughed while playing a game?

I can’t remember the last time a game made me intentionally laugh. I laughed my ass off about situations, bugs, but… scripted comedy?

Maybe a smile, a faint giggle, but actual laughter? I can’t remember.

biofaust,

That’s exactly why I was so surprised by Dispatch! It has stuff at the same level of Sam & Max: Hit the Road whose the next door shop from the office I will never forget: “Bosco’s Guns, Liquors, Baby Needs”

In Borderlands 4, there’s a side quest to cure someone of being a psycho. You need to get a handful of macguffins and plug them into this elaborate machine. There’s a lot of whirring and build-up, and then the machine essentially zaps the psycho and makes him explode. “He’s cured!” It got me, lol.

WindyRebel,

Or the side quest of the rocket that didn’t blow up and you do all of this grabbing parts, set up, fight Order forces and you finally get to launch the missile which developed a bond with humans but didn’t want to be a dud. They end up being fireworks instead of an actual missile.

brsrklf, do games w When was the last time you actually laughed while playing a game?

Dead Cells had one for me, in the boss fight against the Giant. Spoiler.

SpoilerThe giant is a very melancholic, dignified old servant who’s feeling betrayed and disappointed in the player (long story, happens before the game, you don’t remember it and you’re only just piecing together what happened). When he dies, he starts slowly sinking in lava with a very sad expression, with a speech about how “You were an example to us all”, lamenting about what happened, etc… And just before being completely immerged, with just his hand still reaching out of lava… “You…” “…are an ass!” And he flips you off. Perfect delivery.

YiddishMcSquidish, do games w 'Emulating the Impossible' - my interview with a developer of RPCS3

Bro whatcookie had like the exact same experiences I had at that time! Never owned a PS3 until the lock down cause I wanted to play demon’s souls, cause I have a been a souls fan since dark souls prepare to die on PC! Also the PS3 I bought was the slim, just like yours. And until now, I didn’t think any of my systems could handle the emulation of it and your telling me my steam deck can‽ I mean, it’s kind of a moot point as I already have an actual PS3 that’s been letterbombed and multiman’d. But knowing I can take grand Turismo 6 on the go with me if pretty fucking dope!

Rai, do games w Finally Decided I Explored Enough and Beat the Game (Elden Ring)

Fuck yeah! I don’t think I ever will. I’m down hundreds hours in of just fucking around and exploring and I keep hitting walls in the expansion. There’s a crazy tree bitch I can’t kill at the bottom of somewhere even with expert help. Aaaaaaaaa

NuXCOM_90Percent,

The one which is like four bosses in a row?

Get more scadutree fragments to increase your DPS and look into weapon arts that drop a DOT blob on the field (e.g. a magma puddle) since those are meant to hurt enemies that walk past and do ridiculous damage on the biggies what barely move.

And if your build supports if (or you want to go hang out with mommy), Great Stars is RIDICULOUSLY good for the DLC due to healing per hit. And the Prayerful Strike weapon art is more or less cheating in the DLC because of a mix of strong healing and holy being one of the few elements DLC bosses tend to at least not be strong against.

Rai,

Yeah, the one that’s you beat and it’s like “NOPE SECOND HEALTHBAR”, then you beat it again and it’s like “UMMM TIME DOR ANOTHER HEALTH BAR”

I’m fairly early into the expansion, I’ve only beaten two legacy dungeons. I figured I’d just come back once I learned he’s options.

NuXCOM_90Percent,

I want to say that is one of the last bosses of the DLC “narratively”?

But yeah. From love stuff like that. Gargoyles and Maneater in Dark 1 and Demon. The gargoyle gauntlet in Dark 2. The idea being that it is meant to pressure you but is really just a thinly veiled DPS gate.

I forget if the tree fuckers are one at a time or if they can Four Kings to overwhelm you, but the idea is that you are going to take damage but that is what your estus is for. The idea being that you can spike DPS to minimize the damage you take per health bar. And then you cry when you realize you decided to do that on NG+ where you can no longer rush them.
