I was on System 76 for two laptops. The most recent one, a Lemur, started to fall apart: the plastic hinge just started coming off in chunks, and the clamshell began to split. Customer service was terrible: they tried to get me to agree to charges without explaining what they were going to charge me for. When I pressed them (which took repeated emails) they finally admitted they wanted to send me a part for me to do a replacement without any instructions, and which they advised people not to do. Very scammy vibes. I picked up a Framework instead and have been really enjoying it, though I can’t really speak to the gaming portion I’m afraid. I’d just say avoid System 76.
Same in Gaijins other game Enlisted. You see a lot of Nazi references in peoples nicknames like 88, SS and variations of famous leaders names and it’s not uncommon at all to see n-bombs etc in chat.
It’s a buggy pay2win shitshow but I must say the actual gameplay is pretty fun. Although I play it regularly myself I can’t recommend it in good conscience.
Sometimes I’ll buy games on sale I have no intention to ever play. Y’know, because of the lingering guilt from the last time I played them but didn’t buy them
Also, from a mechanistic standpoint I think that mostly has to do with the high cost of entry for games.
At $80-$100 for a full priced game these days, it’s hard to just buy on a whim. The only time you would is when they’re on sale, which happens well after initial release. So initial sales of games are basically entirely driven by reviews and online discourse (which itself has an effect on reviews), and you basically just have a bunch of people all waiting for the signal to buy or not.
I do think that services like Gamepass are a genuinely good way of reducing that effect, because now anyone can try anything on a lark.
For anyone wanting to play, the “correct” order is Old Blood-> New Order-> New Colossus. Excellent games. Old blood is the first chronologically, and is a little lighter on story in favor of some extra fun elements about halfway through, and then the gameplay and story of both New Order and New Colossus are just amazing.
True, I do dislike when gamers just unilaterally say “this game is bad”, because it’s such an opinion. Is it bad, or do you just not like it? Maybe other people do like it
