It was a whole bunch of stuff. Steam kept crashing while in games then reopening, taking focus away from the game. Halo just wouldn’t work with Steam Clips. It would crash whenever I tried. Hardware Acceleration just refused to work without running Steam out of the terminal with some commands. And then finally, the Game Mode (which was like a major reason I picked Bazzite) was too slow to be practical and Game Clips just didn’t work.
I was using the GNOME desktop instead of KDE which may have been affecting things, I’m not sure, but I had heard good things about CachyOS and Big Picture mode can substitute for a proper Game Mode. I decided if I was going to do a reinstall I may as well try it first.
I’m so glad my mobo died last year so I got new one with new DDR5 ram before this happened. It’s like a good example for bad things not always being so bad after all.
My first-ever USB pendrive was 256 megabytes, in 2003.
It was a godsend, because to that point I’d been using floppy disks. It was brushed metal and came in a little faux-leather carry pouch. I guess they figured it was so damn expensive, they should at least make it feel premium.
I’ve still got it, and it still works. Quite useful actually for random jobs like flashing the BIOS on old machines that refuse to read from anything too large, or too new.
Wet. The reviews were pretty harsh due to the length and number of loading screens, but the gameplay was extremely fun. It does end with a cinematic and quick time events which was a bit disappointing, but it’s one of the few games I’ve played through multiple times.
The only game I preorder is GW2’s yearly expansions. Everything else is c/patientgamers material, waiting a few years and paying just a small fraction of the release price to get all DLC, fixed bugs, and tons of fan resources that were created meanwhile 👌
Any time I realize the optimal path is really boring or tedious.
Like, imagine you could sell junk to vendors for money, but for some reason you get more money if you sell them one at a time. Spending five minutes splitting inventory stacks sucks, but it’s 30% more gold and that’s the difference between the cool sword or the basic sword.
A made up example, but hopefully gets the point across.
Related: long travel times with nothing interesting or challenging happening. I remember playing some shitty MMO and you had to like run through a building, go up an elevator, and down a long hallway every time you wanted to learn skills. Just five minutes of nothing. Gotta juice those playtime stats, I guess.
It’s different if there’s stuff to do en route. Monsters to fight or whatever. But when it’s just jogging? Very disappointing.
I considered odyssey, but then I realized it would break all my mods, because they aren’t through steam, and I have multiple weeks spent getting those appx 750 mods working properly. Not worth it when a lot of the mods I like most have been shelved with the major changes. I’d need an entirely new setup.
with my five mods i think im … only scratching the surface. i beat it once on biotech but in proper form; my newborns were annoying so i used them to launch the ship after i sterilized every adult so that wouldnt happen again.
If you play on steam, and want to try a very easy-to-load set of mods that completely reworks the whole game, check out the progression mod pack. (Link is for the 1.5 version since you don’t have odyssey, there’s a 1.6 version as well and I think there’s a link for it on that page)
It’s around 1,000 mods, many of which are compatibility/patch mods, the authors of them worked closely together for compatibility, and they have a community-driven mod sorting tool to reduce errors. You can single-click to add all and follow the directions to have them properly sort for best experience.
I use around half of the mods on that list, very much recommend. You don’t have to have all of them enabled if there’s content you don’t like or whatever.
I do mostly sandboxy base building, rather than accomplishing main objectives, so I frequently have hordes of kids running around my base (highest pawn count ever was 86, I just sort of let people do their own thing and accommodate them). The first bit is kinda annoying, but growth vats for newborns are great if you can’t spare people for feeding and play time :)
Pretty sure the steam version of rimworld is DRM free. Try copying the game files elsewhere and running the executable to see if it just works. That’s how it was with the old DRM free builds Tynan would email you, and I think it still works like that now?
it’s from the makers of “Heavy Rain” and “Beyond: Two souls”. The player has to play the role of three different humanoid androids throughout the game, and make choices that heavily affect the gameplay. Depending on the choices you make with every character, their story and outcome changes their future paths. It’s a good game, and can be bought quite cheap at sales. The acting is really good IMO.
It’s a choose your own adventure take on the civil rights movement set in the future. Because of course society will have to deal with this shit all over again.
If the game supports voice chat in-game, then it is not ok to play background music while talking in-game. Just mute yourself and don’t make us listen. It’s the same as people walking around neighborhood and blasting their music from their phone as if they’re the only ones with ears.
when you can rebind movement keys (I’m an esdf player as opposed to wasd), but it does not rebind consistently. So a map is panned using wasd still, or menu browsing is, or even basic movement in a mini-game, or driving using a vehicle etc. It seems developers rarely really test anything but wasd…
Worst was cyberpunk, which always jettisoned me from the car in a super dramatic leap… on every right turn. XD
edit: also, when rebound keys are not represented correctly in tutorials or prompts… ugh.
I think in cyberpunk its because cars use a separate control set that can/has to be separately rebound. Its so you can use a joystick for driving and a gamepad for walking
No quick restart options for arcade-style games like shmups

I’ve been a member of a 30+ gaming community for over 6 years now. There’s a lot of great people and you’ll find groups playing various games each night. We even have an active sim racing group that’s finishing up another race season on iRacing. It’s a discord community and if you’re interested, there’s a website you can apply. Over 30 Clan
I think it’s a neat thing but I actually hate how you need to integrate with discord to be considered. Joining a discord is one thing but I am so anti mixing services and avoid it if possible.
Is there an alternative to be involved without linking my discord account?
Unfortunately the community is entirely based around discord. They do a bit of screening to avoid people with lots of Steam bans, people under 30, or anyone who looks like they’d be toxic to the community. All applications are voted on by the community. It’s also a 501c non profit organization. I honestly haven’t had one negative experience with the community. I left all traditional forms of social media other than Lemmy and this discord community. Both have been fairly positive outlets in my life that I hope continue to grow and thrive.
Just skimming their website, they sound awesome. But then I saw they focus on online gaming. That explains the rigid recruitment. I play single-player games. They don’t have anything for me. But it looks neat for those who play those games.

I posted because I’m looking for adults to play games with. Most of the games I play are single player, but there are a few that are multiplayer that I’d like to play with other people, and most randoms you find in lobbies or in related Discords are children or just too young for me to personally relate to, so I don’t really want to play with them.
I started playing ARC Raiders recently , and I only have one friend to play with, so I’ve been mostly playing solo.
I’m getting to the point where I’m not afraid of most robots, but I haven’t been part of any PVP yet that wasn’t just me dying before I knew who killed me. I want to explore the new map, but it’s heavily PVP-oriented, so going in with a full squad is going to be more interesting.
It’s a lot of fun with an entire group in Voice Chat. I normally shy away from PVP but so far this has felt great. It’s a nice mix of mainly PVE with occasional bursts of PVP
