Those are probably the only developers in the AAA world that are not selling money printing skinner boxes but the games are still fun.

Indie devs don’t have money to advertise on that shitty show.

@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

I guess that depends on where your cutoff is for AAA, but if you’re including FromSoft, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II just came out this year at a similar level of budget and production value. And I know people have their issues with Unreal, but it really has raised the bar for what a “AA” might be capable of. The likes of Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, The Alters, Split Fiction, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this year (and games like The Thaumaturge last year) are all what we would have expected out of a AAA game in the not-too-distant past, most of which comes down to scope, where a lot of AAAs are arguably doing too much.

rafoix,

I haven’t played any of those yet but isn’t the subject what we’re looking forward to seeing at the Game Awards? I’m not sure if those studios are rumored to be announcing anything on the show.

I’m gonna have to toss a going between Expedition 33 and KCD2. They both seem like my type of game

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Well, you said those were the only AAA devs that weren’t making money printing skinner boxes, and we had plenty of counter examples just this year. Obsidian put out 2 or 3 games this year, depending on how you count, and it wouldn’t be crazy for them to have an announcement for a game coming next year.

Absolutely give those two games a try; they’re high on the TGA’s lists for a reason.

edgemaster72, do games w Looking for games to watch Let's Plays of: Recommend me something!
@edgemaster72@lemmy.world avatar

I think the Quantic Dream games (Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, etc.) work well to watch since there isn’t much to miss out in the gameplay, mostly just walking, talking, and QTEs. The writing varies wildly in quality, so it’s often a MST3K-like experience with the game being mocked (at least ones I’ve watched), just depends whose playthrough you’re watching.

Suck_on_my_Presence,

Heavy Rain is the best if someone’s got the SHAAAWN glitch.

Anything Elder Scrolls kept me busy much longer than the main story, most notably Morrowind. Also, I replayed GTA IV (+ stories) last week, was heaps of fun, especially compared to GTA V which I played a few months back. Read Dead Redemption 2 is a good one for this list as well, I enjoyed that one immensely, but I mainly focused on the main quest during that run-through, so this is a good reminder to myself to pick this up again soon (sadly I fell back into the pull of Satisfactory so it might be some weeks/months/… before I get to it)

WolfLink, (edited ) do games w Games you played inside video games.

In smash bros, turn the launch multiplier all the way up and turn on sudden death mode so everyone starts at 300%.

Go to one of a few levels (the underground area of Hyrule Temple works, the underground area of Skyworld is better, but it’s best if you make a custom stage)

Getting hit once will send you bouncing around the screen! You only ever die if you get unlucky. It’s hilarious, and we call it “Pinball Mode”. I’ve made a couple custom stages to improve on the experience.

sem,

Reminds me of sufing maps in tf2

DempstersBox,

This sounds great

moistracoon, do games w Do you cheat in video games?

I am terrible at video games. I really struggle. Some sit in my library unless I turn on a cheat or two. I can get through stuff like horizon or cyberpunk no problem but the Main offender is fallout at the moment. All I really needed was unlimited carry weight. Oh, and my sibling and I used to cheat in age of empires and the sims all the time. (Rosebud anyone?) Never cheated in a pvp and I mildly chastise my acquaintance who does.

blimthepixie,

I’m thinking the steam frame will open up pc gaming on arm completely and enable devices like this to go full power.

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Its going to be a very interesting time with these retro handhelds when that happens. Still, its amazing to be able to play full AAA Steam & GOG games on Android before that even happens.

Its exciting!

KeenFlame,

I love to Tinker, but i’d want to know what that middle step is. It’s not 1. Get device 2. Tinker. 3. ??? 4. AAA steam games on Android!!

justdaveisfine, do games w A screenshot that is the old evidence of my first ever attempt at a game.

Looks glorious.

That’s pretty good for a first attempt, most people’s first games are barely functional, if at all, so I’d consider this a win.

Yeah, the steam deck does this, it’s a great feature.

Auth, do games w Settings you believe ANY game should have? (This is me advocating for a restart/reboot button on ALL games)

Every game should have the option to toggle motion blur off, toggle frame gen and upscaling off.

RampantParanoia2365,

I don’t think I can name one game without a motion blur slider, or toggle.

Auth,

I’m pretty sure just cause 3 didnt have an option to disable it and it was horrible. They fixed it later I believe.
