Any City Building game

kratoz29, do games w Do you have any recommendations for casual games?
@kratoz29@lemm.ee avatar

Lots of options already shared it so I am just gonna say that I find easier to play older games that I have already played/beaten.

Personal examples:

Super Mario 64 and Toy Story 2.

The huge benefit of older games is that they are just quick and play, no updates no DLCs just fire it up and play, if emulated you even got save states and all those thingys.

This is a dangerous thing to me though, as it discourages me to try out new games, yeah, but after a tiring day I find myself more comfortable getting into these kinds of games than other options.

Funny that you mentioned Vampire Survivors as I was planning to get it for Android haha.

Voices of the Void has been my go to time waster for a couple years now. Dev is a little weird, but the game is amazingly well done and gets somewhat regular updates that expand the story and add new content. You are essentially a scientist sent to work at a SETI-like site in Switzerland. Your job is to maintain the site and search for signals in space, analyze them, and then ship them out to your colleagues, for which you get paid to buy supplies and other things. As you play, random events occur, some funny, some scary. There’s tons of items to buy and decorate your base with. Lots of locations to discover. Sooooooo many secrets to find. I’m constantly impressed by all the work they’ve done with a very small team.

My only complaint is having to reset my save when an update comes out. It’s generally worth it, as there’s usually new events that you’ll miss otherwise, but having to redecorate the base and lose collectables you’ve spent hours on is a bummer… That and I hate the new drive storage rack. I wish they’d bring back then old one as an additional storage item.

Also, the whole damn game is free.

mariusafa,

I aprove this message.

Puzzles games could be really great here. The Case of the Golden Idol

Slice and dice, a rogurlite played with dice. Huge amount of modes like “demo mode” that makes each run like 40% shorter.
Not only can a run go by pretty fast they last roughly as long as a vs run.

Put your game on GOG, or I’m gonna steal it.

Psythik,

It saddens me what a DRM shill you are

lud,

In what way are they a DRM shill?

areyouevenreal,

Steam I am guessing

lud,

Steam isn’t DRM though.

frayedpickles,

Sure bud, sure

Cavemanfreak,

There are lots of games you can play without even having steam running.

lud,

Yeah, steam offers a free(?) very basic DRM for developers/publishers to use but they don’t have to use it and loads don’t.

Steam is a marketplace.

frayedpickles,

Imagine a world where steam used it’s monopoly for good.

With great power comes great responsibility, and steam abdicated.

CileTheSane,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

What is it you think Steam should be doing that it isn’t?

frayedpickles,

Refusing to allow DRM on it’s platform. How is that unclear from the context?

How is that unclear from the context?

Because it was in reply to someone saying

There are lots of games you can play without even having steam running.

frayedpickles,

👍

frayedpickles,

Lol at whoever said “downvoting the claim isn’t enough, I also need to downvote clarification of the claim”

GOG is DRM?

frayedpickles,

Obviously not, don’t be weird

CileTheSane,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

So how is somebody insisting games be on GOG a DRM shill?

frayedpickles, (edited )

They are not doing that, reread OP

Super Hexagon

Pokemon TCGP if you’re into that sort of thing. It starts with just collecting, but after a while you’ll be able to battle.

In the end I just settled with the logic based ones like minesweeper and sudoku. F-droid has a good version each (and more than one maybe).

PlanetCon is a decent strategy game on its basic settings. I haven’t customised it but have had a fair amount of fun in it. But it is nothing perfect, do not expect too much out of it. If you learn how to not attract the ire of all AI opponents simultaneously though, you can have short bursts of decent strategy enjoyment.

knokelmaat, do gaming w What do we think will be GoTY and which game do we think should be GoTY?

I think it will be Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

I think it should be Astro Bot or UFO 50.

JakenVeina, do gaming w What do we think will be GoTY and which game do we think should be GoTY?

I haven’t even played it, and I know it should be Balatro. That game has taken the gaming world by STORM.

The only game I played that was released this year was the eldin ring dlc. Give me a couple years and I can tell you what the GOTY for 2024 was lol

Been enjoying the Raging Echoes league in Oldschool RuneScape for the past couple weeks. Kind of found new addiction to the game again.

It’s kind of fun to blast through content in days or weeks instead of the usual months or years in the main game

Akrenion,

I am not in my second zone yet. Care to tell me your league choices?

hemko, (edited )

I went with Trian -> Fremmy -> Kourend and all on range>melee. For relics harpoon, dodgy deals, clue compass, golden god, slayer master, bankers note, overgrown and last stand.

Have had a blast powering through echo bosses and cox, and had couple attempts in Inferno for the first time. 3 wipes on Zuk now haha.

Otherwise I’m happy with the choices, but honestly not sold on Tirannwan. Sure there’s ton of easy tasks and crystal+BofA, but 1 for going very dry on BofA and the fact that it’s losing in DPS for both blowpipe and tbow everything I do I kinda wish I took Varlamore instead

What you’re planning?

Akrenion,

My plan was VTM Melee but my second region will be Moritanya just to get the barrows lifesteal build running. I am playing mobile a lot while travelling which makes combat harder so I want an easy setup.

Got the foraging pouch instead of dodgy deals but everything else is the same. Currently still leveling slayer to get my combat mysteries.

hemko,

The guthans setup seems crazy stupid 🤣 almost makes me wanna play on 2nd character

But then again doing barrows eww

I’m going to get into Path of Exile 2 this week. Seems like most players are happy with it.

Minnels,

Yup. Pretty good and also pretty hard.

Yep getting smashed a lot now. Will have to switch some skills around and try to improve.

blindsight,

Loving it.

On the Steam Deck, it was playable, but I couldn’t find settings that looked good and were visually clear, so I finally got around to setting up Sunshine and Moonlight (in-house streaming) and it’s amaze balls.

I’m using a script that switches my desktop to a virtual monitor that’s the Steam Deck’s native resolution, and I recently upgraded my house to a WiFi 6 mesh network, so it’s working almost flawlessly. (I often get crashes on startup, but it’s never taken more than 3 tries, then no issues.)

I’m still only in act 1 (limited playtime) but I’m so excited to be playing PoE again, and PoE2 is perfect for playing with a controller.
