Crab Warden was where I think I really fell in love with modern FF gameplay.

Switching characters to min-max ability usage while keeping HP up was wonderfully intense and engaging for me.

Rebirth is a bit too easy in that regard, and the highest difficulty isn’t available from the start.

I absolutely love the combat in FF7R.

It also took a bit for it to click in my head. I'm not sure exactly when ... but once it did, there was no going back for me.

I think you might enjoy Trepang2. It is heavily inspired by the combat in F.E.A.R., has unlockables and arena modes for some replayability. There is a demo and a sale on GOG.

The secret behind many great party games is that they facilitate improv and it’s really the players making the fun for each other

Improv definitely makes a lot of games better, even non party games

I never played Galaxy 2. I liked the first, but I actually preferred Sunshine. Galaxy just seemed smaller to me. I liked that it was different, and maybe part 2 would’ve improved on the engine, but I just thought the first was almost like a gimmick.

Sunshine was gimmicky too, but it felt more complete overall. But yeah, not sure 1+2 is worth $70. I get that Microsoft and Sony have other things to fall back on, but Nintendo is asking too much this time for 15-18 year old games. $50 is more like it.

Personally I didn't like Galaxy 1 very much, but loved 2 as much as using a Wiimote allows. Came down to more level variety with better design and being more challenging I guess. Hard to remember, never replayed either game.

I can't stand Sunshine however. Multiple revisits trying to get into it, but it's just with how Mario controls. Very SSB Melee twitchy which I don't like.

I played 2 with a friend a few years ago. 2 literally felt like more Galaxy. Which is great if you want more Galaxy, not so much if you want to try something a bit new

Lol.

For curious reasons, they didn’t keep this loco in the main large museum in New Delhi; probably because it is not connected to active rail tracks. I took a couple of hours local train ride to see this in the small museum tucked there.

Been playing Hollow Knight: Silksong. I’ve seen credits twice, and am now in Act 3. Currently going through the world again, looking for stuff I missed.

While I do have a good time with the game, I can’t say I love it, because it has a few too many frustrating sections and maybe a few parts that were a bit too difficult for me to really enjoy.

missingno, do gaming w Which handheld should I get?
@missingno@fedia.io avatar

What kind of games are you looking to play, and what form factor do you want?

I bought a Miyoo Mini Plus on sale two years ago and ended up liking it so much I wish I'd bought a more expensive model with analog sticks. There are quite a lot of devices like it on the market, if you want something small for retro emulation look into all the different options.

Meanwhile, my Steam Deck largely gathers dust because it's just too bulky to feel like a replacement for the handheld-sized handhelds I grew up on. Switch (2) is good for running Switch games, and it's at least a bit smaller and lighter than the Deck, but mine rarely leaves the dock.

Ooh, will be fun to see you work through these. The remake series is polarizing to be sure, but I quite like them despite their flaws. The combat system in particular to me feels like such a fun blend of action and ATB-gauge style inputs.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

As someone who’s very picky about his ATB systems, i do much prefer this. I have nothing against the OG, but damn, is the new one so much fun to use
