Fallout 76. I’m genuinely surprised how generous the players are, and it’s been generally fun. It doesn’t feel exactly like typical Fallout, but it lives somewhere between Fallout and Metro: Exodus.

Only big downside is the weight limits they put on everything (including your stash box), because that’s how the devs try to encourage players to buy in with cash. You can still run while encumbered, which is a nice change, but it uses AP to do so. Eventually you have to stop and “catch your breath” before you can keep going. Since it also blocks fast travel, it kind of puts a damper on the fun of collecting all the things when you are forced to travel by foot.

Welcome to the game! I played ages ago and returned recently. Definitely enjoying myself and trying a power armor heavy gunner build.

I strongly recommend just not holding onto as much scrapped junk. Its actually pretty easy to come by a lot of scrap types when you need it. Also strength is a good stat, invest in it for carry weight increases. Power armor also increases your carry weight if you have low strength. Power cores are decently easy to come by.

Telorand,

Thank you! I bulked several hundred of the heaviest items and sold them to a vendor, and I made throwing knives from the excess steel (and sold those).

I think I should still pare that down, though. Right now, screws are my primary concern, and like you pointed out, I don’t seem to be having trouble with things like lead, cloth, and steel. I do have power armor, and I saved up to get the core recharger, so I should probably make use of that more often.

What are your thoughts on keeping higher level weapons in stash? I have some level 25+ items, but I’m only level 19.

AFallingAnvil,
@AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca avatar

At low levels you’ll be blasting through weapons pretty quickly because you’ll outlevel them and find better stuff. If you’re running low on space don’t bother hanging onto more than maybe two guns you want to use at higher levels.

What playstyle do you enjoy? I’m level 170 and only really do heavy guns and rifles. Pistols (revolvers in particular) are usually my favorite but in this game they’re suboptimal. As such I have maybe 4 or 5 weapons that are really good I hang onto.

Also what’s your platform? Maybe I can help you out a bit.

Telorand,

Thanks! That helps a lot. I have a few heavy weapons I’m holding onto that are 45+, so I’ll see what’s worth keeping.

I tend to enjoy the stealthy, long-range playstyle. My favorite weapon so far is a hunting rifle I’ve modded with a long scope and a suppressor (and others mods that boost aim, crit, or reload), and I try to use a plasma pistol for close quarters (because of the chance for nuclear waste); I have an automatic laser rifle and a 10mm subauto as backup, if things get overwhelming. I’m open to suggestions, though!

I play on PC via the Xbox/Game Pass launcher.

Hopefully that helps!

I’m on steam so I’m not overly sure how I’d join up with you, DM me and we’ll see what we can do

Just beat Slay the Princess twice. Wow, really lived up to the hype for me. Excellent writing and art. Excellent... Format and pacing for a visual novel with a lot of different choices. The themes it explores are incredibly interesting and varied.

I heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a VN with a mysteriously intriguing story.

I was playing Rise of the Tomb Raider pretty much non-stop, a lot of fun. Gorgeous game and runs really well on my potato but…hehe Epic Games did something and now ROTR along with a lot of other games just appear as “OS Unsupported” in my library :) and after a little searching on the other site turns out everyone is having the same issue.

Oh well, atleast Epic Games gave away DRM free versions of those games so I can still play my copy

I do. Never really got into it but I thought it was a cool idea!

Been playing Rebel Galaxy on and off a bit. It’s decent enough, think of it as a Freelancer lite, big emphasis on “lite”. It’s more “naval combat in space” than any sort of space game.

Also some Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, I really suck at it but it’s so flashy and fun!

@ICastFist @chloyster RGO kinda fixed that and everyone was like Boooh it's not RG any more xD

...and then there was that exclusive deal that broke the camels back 🥲 Ded company.

I’m partially aware of people not liking Rebel Galaxy Outlaw as a sequel, though I never read into the whys, though if you can actually pilot in all 6 degrees of freedom, that’s a plus for me.

What was that exclusive deal? Something with Sony?

bekopharm,
@bekopharm@social.tchncs.de avatar

@ICastFist dunno, I missed all that by years and only found out after having a lot of fun with the game. Apparently it got so much hate that it's lead dev changed industries. Real shame. Ah well, apparently he is happy now and that's something too.

I like Xevious and Zaxxon. Zaxxon was cool because it had a unique isometric perspective that I haven’t seen in another game.

Gradius 3 specifically I found to be quite fun. Its too bad Konami retired the Gradius series, but I suppose its probably better that way.

The Panzer Dragoon series is a great arcade shooter series.

Contra. Contra 4 specifically on the Nintendo DS I felt had the perfect balance. I really liked that entry.

KammicRelief,

oooh those are bringing up some serious childhood arcade memories.
I loved Zaxxon! I gotta see if I can play that on PC.

I played the fuck out of Cannon Spike on Dreamcast

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannon_Spike

But I was a huge SmashTV fan back in teh day. I still play it when I see a cabinet.

I tried to get into the mindset to get good at Ikaruga but I just cannot invest that kinda time.

Dreamcast had so many good shmups.

Guardian Legends and 1942.

Aren’t game purchases enforceable contracts? i.e. “I give you money. You give me game that works.” ? (I’m avoiding words like “good” because that’s subjective and it gets into a whole different discussion)

any1th3r3, do games w Shoot em ups & run n' guns

Shmups, I’m only a beginner but I have a few suggestions:

  • ESP Ra.De. - somewhat slower bullet hell with pretty interesting scoring, the “Psi” re-release has a lot of useful QoL features.
  • Espgaluda II - you could think of it as a successor to the former, it has refined gameplay and recent releases have great QoL features. Somewhat faster paced bullet hell?
  • Ikaruga / Radiant Silvergun - Although these are two very different games, they have entirely different mechanisms to most other shmups. Ikaruga feels like a “puzzle” game a lot of the time, while Radiant Silvergun has some light RPG elements. Both are somewhat hard to get into imo.
  • Dodonpachi Resurrection - great starting point re bullet hells, the recent re-release offers a ton of QoL features and the game itself has interesting scoring / gameplay. Soundtrack is awesome.
  • Raiden IV - Super biased, but I love the soundstrack. Pretty great, if simple, game otherwise.

I have many more shmups in my backlog (Ketsui, Dodonpachi Daioujou, Battle Garegga, Rolling Gunner, etc) which I’m sure I could recommend, but seeing as I haven’t played them first hand yet… I’ll leave it there for now.

Just started animal well myself. Seems extremely solid so far. Excited to see what else the game has in store. Also has me excited to see what else big mode releases in the future if this is the bar of what they’ll publish.
