infinitevalence, do games w What are y'all buying on the steam sale?
@infinitevalence@discuss.online avatar

Probably nothing unless a really good deal from my wish list shows up.

Tenkard, do games w Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase?

For weird/horror games I follow alpha beta gamer on YouTube, so my suggestion is finding a YouTuber focused on indie games you like. As another user wrote you can browse itch.io featured page to find some hidden gems.

Ephera, do games w Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase?

or even something hosted in person with actual demos like E3. Does anything like this exist?

The GamesCom in Germany always hosts the Indie Arena Booth, which has tons of indie devs densely packed in tiny booths, where you can play demos.

Since the pandemic, they’ve also had an online offering, where during the GamesCom, you can explore a virtual space with virtual booths, which will then also link to playable demos that you can download from Steam.

roxas2153,

I wish they had something for the US, but I am glad they hook it up virtually now. Thank you!

ATDA, do games w What are the best Samurai period games?

Way of the Samurai.

Not sure about the recent releases but the old games emulate well. Gameplay is super fun even if the writing is very anime influenced.

SomeAmateur, (edited ) do edc w (Request) Looking for a CCW backpack without a lot of Velcro

Maxpedition Urban Assault maybe? Maxpedition’s prepared citizen bags are interesting too, basically a jansport with bombproof fabrics.

Osprey, Deuter and similar have good bags too but aren’t custom built for carry. Looks normal because they are, and can be surprisingly durable while also being light.

Velcro is out but how about molle loops? Leaning more tacticool for the features and materials or are you looking to be more colorful and inconspicuous?

Vej,

Molle is fine. It’s not as tactical if everyone and ther mom has molle. Even Walmart has it near me.

Blackmist, do gaming w I hate the term "Boomer Shooter"

An actual boomer shooter would be like Space Invaders.

But at least it’s got a name I suppose so if you like them you can find them and differentiate them from all your online XP bar tutorial modern bullshit.

I just think of it like boom as in explosions. Boom-boom shooty-shoot; or boomer shooter if you prefer brevity.

Lmaydev, do gaming w I hate the term "Boomer Shooter"

Boomer basically means 20+ years old nowadays as far as I can tell. Or older than zoomers.

Dauntless and Minecraft Dungeons

Looks like Dauntless uses EAC which can be tricky to get working however I see Minecraft Dungeons looks to be working great; thank you

Deestan, do games w Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase?

Youtube channel “Second Wind” has excellent indie game coverage.

They do “Bytesized” for short reviews of new games. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUBKwq0XD0uesOmUb2GTsc…

Also they have “Hidden Gem” where they stream an older indie game that went under their radar.

Plus most of their other stuff is pretty on the indie pulse.

UndercoverUlrikHD, do games w Favourite developers
@UndercoverUlrikHD@programming.dev avatar

Favourite is a strange term to use about companies, but in terms of how interested I would be if all I was told it was a game from X, it would likely go like this.

  1. Valve
  2. CDPR
  3. Guerrilla Games
  4. Naughty Dog
Schal330, do games w Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase?

I tend to watch Clemmy Games to see what indie games are coming up. There are a lot of duds, but then you come across a diamond in the rough. Clemmy does a great job for me, releasing videos almost every day and I would recommend giving the channel a go!

roxas2153,

Thank you! The hardest part for me was finding a consolidated source of upcoming ones, and this fits that need well.

Steam Next Fest. SkillUp tends to do pretty good rundowns of his favorites. Below is his latest in one.

roxas2153,

I am glad I finally know what the Steam Next Fest actually is. Thank you!

Krudler, do games w Physical or Digital?

I can log on to anybody’s computer in the world, install Steam, and have full access to my entire game library.

I can make almost anybody I know (with limits) a “family member” and share my library.

I can stream my games from my computer to my phone.

My steam deck lets me play my entire library anywhere.

I see no personal benefit to using physical media anymore.

I guess a disclaimer would be that I trust Valve but you truthfully, I don’t trust all game companies/vendors.

VelociCatTurd, do games w Is there some sort of Indie Game Showcase?

Steam does a next fest pretty regularly now to showcase indie games

roxas2153,

I had no idea that was what it was. I just looked at February’s Next Fest, and it is awesome. Thanks for the recommendation!
