Meanwhile we’ll just take this mod and make it a gamemode, Charge for ideas used in emulators, charge for emulators.

Fizz, do games w 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux?
@Fizz@lemmy.nz avatar

My friend was unable to update to windows 11 due to the TPM requirements and looking to switch to linux. I upgraded my CPU and said they should buy my old one. They finally said OK and asked if I could help them install it before they switched to Linux. I installed the CPU and they never switched to Linux because now they have a CPU that meets the TPM requirements.

Windows users really hate change. Microsoft will force them to update and the users will whine but 1 week later they will be used to it then they will stick on windows 11 till EoL.

Great post buddy, though does anyone else have any lag while scrolling it?

I’m currently using the boost app so maybe it’s an app issue but usually on these longer posts it lags pretty bad making it harder to read but not impossible.

Either way thanks for the work, keep it up.

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

No issue on web. Haven’t tried on mobile.

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Oh thank you!!!

I just use Jerboa and the desktop site, and don’t notice any issue on either method. It could be your app?

To be fair I have a lot of images in there too, so that may have some impact for your app?

Tieas,

A couple other people commented that boosts also had issues so it’s probably the app. Thanks for the work bud we appreciate it

selokichtli,

It also reads fine in Thunder. Maybe it’s something in the app, the post seems quite heavy on the markdown side.

Tieas,

Is thunder an app?

selokichtli,

Yes, it is a free and open source app for Lemmy.

Maven,

I’m also on Boost. I’ve noticed for a while now that it struggles when a bunch of larger file sizes images are in the same post.

Tieas,

Good to hear it’s not just me

jimerson,
@jimerson@lemmy.world avatar

Just wanted to say you’re not alone here; this is the first time I’ve encountered a “laggy” post, and I was also wondering if it’s a boost issue due to all the images.

Tieas,

It sounds like it’s not happening on other apps so I might have to branch out.

SchwertImStein,

not to be a dick, but please don’t use the only proprietary app with ads

Deathray5,
@Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com avatar

Do you have suggestions for other apps?

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Jerboa and Thunder.

Neither of which show any slowdown when scrolling through my post!

SchwertImStein,

Voyager is great

Kbobabob,

Summit has been good so far. Recently switched from sync since the Dev is mia

Tieas,

What do you recommend? Boost was the first one that popped up on the Google Play store

SchwertImStein,

Voyager

I see the other side - if I’m not using my SteamDeck, it’s because I’m having a good enough time with the ‘real world’.

Hell yeah, looks good!

H_dev,

thank you so much, would love to know what you think of the demo!

technomad,

Definitely, I’ll be glad to check it out. I downloaded the demo, could you tell me if there’s any recommended settings and controller profiles for steam deck?

H_dev,

we are currently optimizing it for the steam deck and lower end PCs so that in full release its accessible to everyone!

technomad,

Excellent, I’ll be sure to give it another go on the update then 👍

theOneTrueSpoon, do games w any one remembers the PS2 prince of persia games?

This looks quite cool, I’ll have to check it out! Does it support the steam deck?

I feel attacked. I bought one these gamepads where you put your phone in. Loaded the phone up with bunch of emulators and roms. I havent used it it public but once. I cant stomach outing myself as a 30+ gAmEr in public. Its a me problem and i should just give less of a fuck but i simply cant.

entwine413,

The only time someone has said anything to me about my playing my Deck in public was a guy who had an Asus portable and wanted to chat about it.

Literally no one cares. Well, besides children who will think you’re awesome.

Rekorse,

I think you are saying you dont want to look unproductive in public? You wouldnt be strange for being a gamer at your age:

playtoday.co/blog/stats/gamer-demographics/

Do you look at gamers in their 30s and think negative things?

remotedev,

I think a big part of the problem for 30s+ gamers is that we grew up hearing how gaming = lazy bums, and it’s hard to break away from that. I think in company of other gamers it’s cool, but you still expect non-gamers to judge you

copymyjalopy, do gaming w My primary use of portable consoles has been lounging around the house.

I use my Deck when I travel ( which is all the time). I bust that thing out on the plane, on public transit and in my hotel room. I literally do not care what people think of me by doing so.

Bob_Robertson_IX,

I travel for work quite a bit and always take my Deck with me. Not only is it great in the airport and on the the plane, but then when I get to the hotel I can often hook it up to the tv.

2 weeks ago I was in Podunk, Ky for the week and got over 50 hours of Rocket League in from my hotel bed.

Rekorse,

What a save!

ChapulinColorado,

Used to travel for work and a switch at the time with BotW was a life saver for entertainment after work for the days we didn’t have some work get together planned (those were mostly Thursdays or Fridays). I have really good memories of that game.

I remember a work contact tipped me off on when they would be arriving to the target near work (he knew one of the people working there). Thankfully they were not being scalped enough and you could still find them for retail prices on that area.

I take my film camera with me and explore the places I’m at with nothing to do. Just gotta invest in a good, light, as small as possible tripod for night shooting already.

MudMan, do gaming w My primary use of portable consoles has been lounging around the house.

I mean, yeah, mostly I use portables at home, but I do bring them with me. It's a 50-50 chance whether I overcome the social awkwardness of pulling out a game system in a packed train or plane, but... you know, hotels are a thing.

The real question is which handheld do you bring with you. Pre-pandemic it was the Switch or the 3DS. When I had a long train commute me and my friends got into Mario Kart DS on local multiplayer for a while. When I was alone I did tend to carry a PSP, which at the time was also my media player of choice. By the time I moved to PC handhelds from the aging Switch I wasn't really travelling, but the couple times I did the Deck seemed a bit too large and I do have a smaller Windows handheld I can use instead. Smaller retro emulation handhelds are cute and portable, but a bit too limited. A couple times I packed a controller to go with my laptop.

I had one person tell me that they feel like they’re too many daily so they’re blocking and downvoting. I’m not sure whether that applies to any of the other people. Only 3 people as far as I can remember have been vocal about downvoting

Ghyste,

That’s too bad. I really enjoy you talking through what you’re doing, and you play a lot of games I haven’t played yet. Keep it up, I say!

BingBong, do games w 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux?

Bought my wife a framework laptop, slapped fedora on it and have been helping her make the switch. So far so good other than Obsidian not working the same as OneNote.

naticus,

How’ve you/her liked the Framework? Which one did you get? I’ve been considering one for months but I don’t have a huge need but it’d be nice to have a solid laptop rather than my Chromebook that I’m running Arch on when I’m on my couch.

BingBong,

Framework 13 DIY edition. I’ve been quite happy so far and so has she. Configuring it was trivial and the one issue I ran into (setting up backups) was due to my not being familiar with fedora and KDE. Build quality is good, the bezel was the only part that gave me pause. She doesn’t use it a ton so it’s likely any minor nagging quirks will take a while to tease out.

naticus,

Cool, thank you. What’s up with the bezel? Flimsy?

BingBong,

It was tricky to get it to snap into place cleanly and I had to jostle some of the monitor wires into place while installing. The instructions did note that this was a common challenge point and so I was prepared for moving the wires. Once installed it’s good quality.
