Sunsofold, do gaming w I'm looking for the Holy Grail of multiplayer gaming

When you ask for something without ‘grind’ I have to ask if you know what you are asking. Grind is entirely subjective. It’s not a mechanism of a game but rather what happens when you personally don’t find a game mechanism fun/rewarding.
Take classic examples, like mining in… most games, really. It’s smacking a rock. It doesn’t have much variety. For some people, they love their own little game of ‘hit the rocks in the most efficient way,’ or they like to relax with music and bust rocks, or they feel like every rock is a loot box. Other people hate it for being too complex to automate and too simple to feel engaged.

The difference between ‘grind’ and an ‘endlessly replayable part of the game’ is how the player looks at it. You are asking for ‘the drug to which you will never build a tolerance.’

ProfHillbilly, do games w Developer interview: my Q&A with the creator of Lutris

I feel like an idiot but I don’t understand what I github is and how I am suppose to use it.

afansfw,

Github is a platform to upload your code to using git (a source code versioning system that allows you to store different versions of your program code, history of all changes to it, etc., and to collaborate with other people to work on the same project with each person working on their own part and then merging the changes together). You can check other people’s projects, upload yours, leave comments, create issue reports, copy others’ work and make a “fork” of the software, and much more. Among other things you can download the latest releases of the software provided by the developers, usually installation instructions are provided on the project page, and the latest releases can be found under the Releases tab.

AutoPastry,

GitHub was really intimidating for me the first few times I used it. Overly simple answer is that it’s a place to store and share code, and oftentimes versions that are compiled and ready to install. If you want to keep things simple just look for a “Releases” section

Nintendo is, as ever, a shitty company for the community. I understand that they hold the nostalgia carrot over everyone’s head (or at least those over a cetain old age)

Why must you hurt me in this way? 🥲

Seriously though, I love your posts. Keep up the good work! 😁

I just love these posts so much man, they’re so random but so authentic. AND YES GOD DAMMIT IT IS JESSE FADEN I will not be lied to god dammit I recognize my favorite Remedy girl. And yes Crow Country is dope, if you like retro survival horror I cannot not recommend Signalis!

nice! what are you gonna build

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not sure yet. I’m honestly impressed i could emulate it, i wasn’t expecting it to run perfectly. Now that it does though i might just do a survival world and see what i build impulsively. i might go to a super flat too and try to build a city. That was one of my favorite things to do growing up (The ‘city’ was like 3 houses and an assortment of Pixelart)

CluckN, do games w Day 299 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games l've been playing

The console demo used to be time locked. I’d go over a friend’s house to play split screen and see how far we could progress in 20 minutes. We use to speedrun building a nether portal until we found the one hidden inside the Minecraft logo.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

That’s what me and my sister used to do growing up lol. We couldn’t afford the full game, so we’d use the demo and speedran as much of the Tutorial world as we could. We didn’t figure out you could actually skip the tutorial until a year after we bought the full game though lol

I agree on that character design. Control came to mind as soon as I saw it.

Each time I see it!

But…Control is one of my fav games of all time, so I can’t help but make the connection when I see someone stealing Faden’s hair and pose!!!

I hate the old before-my-time ‘tank controls’

Yeah, now I feel old. Crow Country is a nice little game, very nostalgic for old people like me ;p

I’m slowly making my way through Expedition 33 and loving every minute. I think I might be stuck for a while in a boss, will have to check a guide online.

Silent Hill 2 is such a great remake, I’m glad they decided to release it DRM-free. I played the original back in 2002 with a friend, but we were high as a kite and we were teenagers, so we didn’t really understand the story that well. When I played the remake in October I ended up crying, it’s a fucked up situation.

I spent months watching people play it for the first time on Twitch, quite entertaining and enlightening to see how differently everyone reacted to it. The thing every player had in common was that they started it thinking it was a cool, scary game (which it is) and ended up finding so much more. A masterpiece IMHO.

As always, thank you for your great post.

Tank controls truly are divisive. I grew up playing the PS1 RE games and, to me, they are just second nature. I recommended a friend of mine to try them out, and he walked away after a few minutes lol

Have you tried Dino Crisis 2? Of all the tank controls games, it’s the one with the most fluid gameplay. The story is completely bonkers, but the gameplay is so satisfying.

By the way, thank you for recommending Crow Country! I had never heard of it and now I’m very interested.

Somehow I think you’re going to be called a racial slur more often than you’re going to get this sort of thing.

Cosmonaut_Collin,

The receiving of racial slurs build character though.

Rolder,

What if this message also had a racial slur in it? Would they positive and negative cancel out?

CidVicious,
@CidVicious@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes, which would cause an annihilation explosion, killing everyone in the immediate area.

pdxfed,

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
