I heard Chris mention this when GiantBomb had him on their podcast a week or two ago. It seems like a wild time.

With the resurgence of city builders, it would be a great time to remaster this game. I know my wife would adore the vibes of this game but would be frustrated by the outdated UX.

Oh now we all dislike Geoff Keighley? Finally noticed how much of a charisma devoid dingus he is, have we?

graymess, do gaming w Spellbreak, Shut Down When Its Developer Was Acquired By Blizzard, Is Still Alive - Aftermath

Always cool to see a thriving online community after a game’s official shutdown. All possible because the devs released a self hosted version, something increasingly rare these days. And it works on Steam Deck? Might have to check this out.

I was just looking at that game. Love the concept/title, anybody played this yet?

fathog,

yeah gameplay isn’t anything to write home about but the story and writing is charming and funny, makes it worth it

RedditRefugee69, do games w Sony's Neil Druckmann Interview Shows Why We Need Journalists

After wasting 10 minutes of my life analyzing it… I don’t see the point of people getting enraged, nor how this relates to gaming journalism

Goronmon,

Without journalism (or just a third-party in general) providing perspectives and communication in some way, you are relying primarily on the information coming directly from the companies themselves.

In this case we see that Sony was willing to fabricate quotes about an interview.

p5yk0t1km1r4ge, do games w IGN immediately lays off every non-UK person at their newly bought sites, including some key members like deputy editor Alice Bell
@p5yk0t1km1r4ge@lemmy.world avatar

The recent layoffs at the company have been swift and impactful. Notably, several unique positions were affected, leaving entire job functions uncovered. This move suggests a potential restructuring or shift towards automation using artificial intelligence, which is concerning.

In particular, the departure of Alice Bell is deeply regrettable. Her exceptional contributions were instrumental in maintaining the company’s operations during challenging times. Additionally, her leadership in the Electronic Wireless Show podcast was pivotal. It is hoped that, similar to Indiescovery, the podcast team will continue independently to preserve its value.

These developments paint a concerning picture of the company’s future.

I mean, I’ve recently bought a Fallout MtG deck (against my better judgement) and the Fallout TTRPG starter set, so they’ve got my money at least.

ServeTheBeam, do gaming w Kotaku EIC Resigns Over New Editorial Edict

Where does everyone get their gaming news?

ylai,

From my own statistics how many I feel worthy posting/linking on Lemmy, the most direct alternative to Kotaku is Eurogamer. PCGamer, PCGamesN and Rock Paper Shotgun are occasionally OK, but you have to cut through a lot of spam and clickbait (i.e. exactly this “50 guides per week” type of corporate guidance). Not sure if this is also the state that Kotaku will end up in. The Verge sometimes also have good articles, but the flood of gadget consumerism articles there is obnoxious.

teawrecks, do gaming w Detective Game Shadows Of Doubt Is Kicking My Ass - Aftermath

This game is such a neat idea and impressively well executed given that I believe it’s just one guy working on it. I know Starfield was memed into the Innovative gameplay award, but if the award were real, it really should have gone to this game. Can’t wait to see where it goes, it clearly has so much potential.
