Can someone give me a rundown on why there‘s so much negativity revolving around this?

First five minutes of SkillUp’s review is a good rundown. It seems like a mindless action clickathon with imitation of gameplay seen in better games, a safe sterile story and a large chunk of world design repurposed leftovers from someone’s abandoned Overwatch-but-DA ambitions.

edit: also, I note how reviews that peg this as a “return to form” are written and SkillUp’s has video to back his opinions and it looks pretty damning.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Never seen mortismal and I’ve only seen SkillUp a few times. I don’t really follow or need any review at release time, I’m not touching any game that’s 50€ or more until two years have passed and it’s in the vicinity of 75% off.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck you, Ubi. Apart from all your shitty practices, it’s a 15-hour game that’s 40€ with a 50€ complete edition and cosmetics bullshit. That shit won’t fly anymore. I might get it in two years when it’s 10€, but only if your kill your launcher as a requirement.

edit: also, it came out a month ago. Learn to suck on the long tail of sales before you sacrifice your employees to Chtulhu, they’ll just make their own vaguely middle eastern platformers in Unity or UE and make more money than your shitty company.

‘Unknown 9: Awakening’ Arrives To 200 Steam Players, Poor Reviews (www.forbes.com) angielski

You can’t really gauge its Steam reviews because there are only 13(!) total so far, reflective of a game that has launched with just a few hundred players. 224, as I’m writing this article. Sub-Concord levels. Yes. Concord is a unit of measurement now....

zecg, (edited )
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

People robbed themselves.

Are you fucking kidding me? It’s 79.99€ on Steam and you’re talking as if the opportunity to experience it is lost forever. If it’s worth a cat shit, I’m looking forward to its proper release in 2026 at 15€ or less.

I would be careful with such generalizations - not because I’d be downvoted into a hole (I’ve turned the scores off and just DGAF), but it’s epistemologically a bad habit. However, whatever I’ve seen so far that SBI had their fingers in does have a certain fellow-kids, safe-edgy, corporate-approved, plushie-anarchist tone, the dialogues are atrociously bad and disjointed from their theme (Sable’s postapocalypse, for instance). They can do a less funny version of Joss Whedon’s relaxed banter and they tend to stick it everywhere. But what I really dislike about SBI is that it’s obviously a grift, making developers cough protection money to add pronouns and hair colors to characters.

Starfield's first DLC is one of the worst Bethesda DLCs of all time angielski

Starfield steam page for the DLC currently shows eight user review score of 41%, making this one of the worst Bethesda DLC’s released of all time. This is so horribly, shockingly bad for Bethesda, because it shows as a gaming company, they are no longer capable of delivering a really good gaming experience as they had in the...

I am really enjoying this downfall of Bethesda, Blizzard, Ubisoft and EA, more than I enjoyed anything they published in half a decade. I wish death also to Gearbox. It’s coming and after Randy bought and promptly ruined RoR2, my schadenfreude is tingling.

I gladly would have paid 10 €bucks for the upgrade as I really enjoyed the game, but Sony can get fucked, it’s a singleplayer game.

zecg,

How do you play through that tripe twice? It has next to no challenge and the story is beyond stupid.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Dear PC gamers, please stop bitching about installing a second games launcher.

I’m neither bitching nor installing that shit. I take every freebie, but never install anything other than through Steam, just let 'em pile up. I’m actually not bothered by exclusivity at all, I only exceedingly rarely pay for games before they’re 75% off a few years down the line. Stuff like Synthetik 2 or Shapez 2, where I know what I’m getting and it’s a small team with an uncompromising vision.

Epic’s behaviour was explicitly to try and break Steam’s entrenched monopoly

Steam doesn’t have monopoly on anything, they just have superior service that people prefer, but there’s quite a few stores / launchers. I like Epic’s engine, but their launcher is still crap five years down the line.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

All your games are on Steam and stuck there

No, that’s the point, I have tons of ubishit and hundreds of Sweeney’s freebies, some on gog, origin or whatever they’re calling it these days, all over the place. What monopoly? I mean they sold me a linux pc in a gamepad that’s fully fledged arch only Valve is maintaining it for me, drivers work with no fiddling or deep lore research. But I can do whatever with it, it’s a personal computer. They didn’t try locking it in any way. Remarkably monopolistic

I really always prefer local coop but it doesn’t work well when it’s 3rd person over the shoulder and you have to split the screen into two different viewports.

Where's Our Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Review? (IGN denied review code) (www.ign.com) angielski

In a bad-vibes moment, they’re denying a huge outlet like IGN a review code. No matter what I think of IGN in particular (nothing good tbh), that’s not something I can find a real explanation for other than “We made DC’s Gollum and want to avoid bad press as long as we can”.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

right now there’s no alternative. It’s crazy expensive to make AA and up games

You’re kidding? UE5 with Nanite is a whole-ass studio and you can use it for free and pay a percentage once you’re making money. It’s never been cheaper and the games have never been more plentiful. AAA has this problem exactly because games like Palworld are hits eating huge amounts of gamers’ time.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. Ubisoft’s Rayman Origins works with no launcher, just copy steam’s game dir and you can run the game exe on another computer.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

I played CP2077 only recently after 2.01 patch and it’s kind of ok as an ubisoft sandbox. There’s something like 40 hours of well made content that’s on rails and a lot of really generic filler missions. I’m kind of disappointed and not because I expect voiced exposition and writing from such filler, but I did expect gameplay that was tuned to be challenging and it’s not. Seriously, Watch Dogs 2 (which is actually ubisoft) had better designed and balanced side missions. Here it’s just have these 5 dudes standing on a corner, you can kill them by hacking their shit without them ever seeing you or getting a chance to react. It’s a nice world that’s an average game garnished with a lot of Potemkin content.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Obviously consumers haven’t learnt anything either, we eat this up, but CDPR is going to get the fallout from it.

I waited for almost 3 years of patches and a deep discount and I’m still somewhat disappointed, it’s just three shitty ubisoft sandboxs stacked in a next gen suit.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

With every launch of their shitty ad-saturated, bloated piece of shit client shivving me with UAC repeatedly they make me less likely to ever again install one of their games (since Rayman Origins on steam has no DRM and I can just launch the exe directly); so take note Ubi, stop doing giveaways until the gift is not embedded in feces.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

I might be jaded, but I’d wager that whoever buys it, is going to be worse than having Epic as a rich daddy who is focused on and making money through his core business and doesn’t really know what to do with Bandcamp. Entities that buy it are almost certainly going to squeeze harder at the expense of user experience.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Also, why the hell do they own bandcamp, lol.

Because a gaming company with a successful battle royale is like a mule with a spinning wheel or something.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

And there’s like 300 of them. With Steam, I had to buy my way into a Buridan’s donkey position where I don’t play anything because I have too much. My man Sweeney made me jaded for free.

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved? angielski

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....
