The big problem is how to make it fun for those who are not space nerds. They are making a game for hundreds of thousands of players with a budget of a game for tens of millions. They are getting funded for a feline-shaped bag, once it’s out chances are it’ll be so aggressive, mangy and moody no one will want to play with it. Aiming at a reticle projecting where the enemy will be when the shots land for 30 hours with occassional explanations by hollywood b-listers is not everyone’s cup of space tea.

Digital Foundry is backing up the claims that Nintendo seems to be discouraging switch 2 development from third parties (www.youtube.com) angielski

Saw this on some other sites. I was wondering why I didnt see too much development by 3rd parties for switch 2 specifically. There are messages online to use Switch 1 ATM because the dev kits are not available.

This ia worthless, even if it was an official promise I’d never trust EA. Also, I fully expect a kernel-level anticheat. We’ll see after it’s out for a few years, I’m not dumb enough to buy a game that’s not 75% off.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

By all means, every increase in price is welcome, it’ll be that much less of a temptation. How are Concord and Fairgames doing?

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Loved Horizon, so I clicked on an open world gameplay trailer and it’s just survivalslop, fiddling with some shit-producing hovels to get them upgraded to shit+1-producing hovels and hitting trees until they’re planks.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Just consider what you’re up against - the first one was 7.49€ (the lowest I’ve seen) and I haven’t bought it yet simply because I have too many games to play for years now. I certainly won’t pay more than 10€ for the original or the sequel and I’d never pay MS for their shitty subscription.

The franchise is fucked, Andromeda didn’t interest many people anymore after ME3 was so shit, but it was dead to me after they ruined the story with a giant space skeleton bossfight at the end of ME2.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Andromeda was a good game after they fixed all the bugs.

Wish for your lack of discernment, I’d have so many good-to-me games to play.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

the bulk of the negative reaction to it had to do with bugs and/or missing content on launch

I played it after it was nominally fixed, but the story is complete shit and the gameplay is cookie-cutter third person sfslop

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

The only good is Mass Effect 1, the second one was consolized safe cookie-cutter third person gameplay with the stupidest game finale of all time. Haven’t touched the third after that shit.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

The reason might be a slippery slope or whatever, but there’s mountains of disgusting visual novel incest fantasy shit, so much that I had to filter out all sexual content from Steam even though I might enjoy occasional Sex With the Devil or some Genital Jousting.

zecg,
@zecg@lemmy.world avatar

Private servers are not always a viable alternative option for players as the protections we put in place to secure players’ data, remove illegal content, and combat unsafe community content would not exist and would leave rights holders liable.

Just make people sign one of those “I understand there’s no guarantees this’ll work or won’t rape me” when they download the private server software, you fucking corporate snakes.

    whilst the game is not officially supported on the Steam Deck, it runs fine on it, as it has a native Linux port, although I had to move to PC for that Metropolis level as it was starting to lag

    You mean Windows, a PC is actually what runs Linux in this case. Just wanted to say Linux port usually has worse performance than DirectX ran through Proton, it makes more sense running a Windows version on Linux than the native version.

    zecg,

    Just as heads up, Obsidian, I’ll require this to be at least 75% off if it’s good and over 20 hours of single-player campaign. If it’s shorter, I can be enticed at 90% off. I’ll wait for a few years, no problem, my family group backlog is in the thousands.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    No, I’ve seen it, that is feedback and it should be invaluable to all interested parties, not only those who set the price.

    zecg,

    This looks completely unappealing, and I say that as someone who likes 3D platformers. There’s even no replay with all of the attempts at once, I’d argue that gimmick did a lot of heavy lifting.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    Happy they didn’t fuck up the originals, but added these as separate titles. Fucking Sony recently pushed a rEmaSteREd Days Gone as a patch and it sucks, the version before looked great at 45 FPS on Steam Deck, this one is in the toilet for dubious gains. They certainly did it so that people who play the game on their ps5 pro don’t notice how much better the game looks and works on the pc.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    I genuinely don’t understand, is this a new edition and if so, what’s added? Or is it just a trailer apropos nothing, CDPRs “not without my anus” of the gaming news cycle?

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    That’s what got me confused - why call it a trailer if there’s nothing new? Not even a UE5 remaster, those are all the rage now.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    Yeah, make me read through an investor-oriented powerpoint from three years ago once, shame on you.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    Looks like complete ass, deflect the green is the stupidest idea in gaming in a long time and those dragon segments are just an insult. Also, I’m happy Bethesda saved time and CPU cycles not baking lighting, but it got offloaded to gamers’ computers for dubious benefit. I have eyes, I see how 2016 and Eternal look, please tell me how much of a graphic improvement the endless glitching fields of darkness are. I wouldn’t buy a game for more than 15€ if it’s top notch (patient gamer here), but I don’t see myself playing this ever, it just evokes a sadness. The story of Eternal (the only game of the recent trilogy I actually liked) was a huge Marvel-caliber turd and I skipped every cutscene, so I’m not expecting anything in that department.

    I finished my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. I absolutely love the setting for the game and hopefully they'll make a sequel. Cyberpunk is going to join the very small selection of games I immediately replay. I just need to figure out how to do mods on Bazzite first.

    zecg,

    I hated it, barely pulled through. Great looking game with a wonderfully designed open world and it falls apart if you engage it with any planning. It should have been a linear game, it would waste less time, the only missions worth playing are in the main quest, all of the rest is flimsiest filler, a few dudes standing around waiting for something to happen that you can hack from a distance without them realizing what’s happening. It’s more padding than pudding and it’s way too easy once you level up a few times. Even the story is very uneven in quality across the game, there’s missions that deserve to be a novel, but many are just ridiculously cheap saturday morning cartoon-level trope deployments.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    Are there any mods that rebalance difficulty to make it more challenging?

    So, I’ve spent over 2 hours on Steam searching for a nice game to play. But it’s all junk, as far as I’m fed with Steam recommendations. Within an enthusiast bubble, PC handhelds are a big deal, but they do not exist in the same universe as Nintendo consoles.

    I keep hearing this shit and it seems like stupid wishful thinking, because in a locked-down universe where Switch 2 is not a shitty proposition for way too much cash compared to getting a PC with 10k+ PC games from the get go and also emulating anything you wish because it’s your hardware and it’s just bits - in that universe, Polygon is a much needed pool of experts that people go to for advice instead of a source of stupid ragebait titles telling them a log of shit is the new snickers.

    Nintendo will not have true competition in handhelds until its peers in the console space get involved.

    Yeah, sure, fuck you Polygon

    Hardly ruin, you have to purposefully go find them gloating over Steam charts. But it’s too funny that people really have choice enough now in the good graphics segment that Ubisoft is sinking. It’s my fault, I cursed them when they left Steam for their 4-UAC-prompts-whenever-you-start PoS. They showed total contempt for their users with Breakpoint, tried an nft grift on the side, evolved all cosmetics to clown shoes level and totally failed to offer anything new. Where’s Reflextions? Stuff like Grow Up / Home, metroidvanias on UbiArt Framework? They have great 3D engines and can’t keep a team happy or unfired enough to have people that know how to use it and optimize a game and are able to take some risks with game design. It’s all either heavily monetized multiplayer dreck or incremental QoL features in ever larger and shallower sandboxes in one of few large franchise flavors. There’s not that much to discuss, woo bamboo cutting tech, a new coat of paint and some gimmicks. People claiming it’s failing because it’s either woke or culture appropriating are ascribing cultural import to a happy meal.

    zecg,
    @zecg@lemmy.world avatar

    I quite like it. Once you get used to the timings of actions you can be quite fast and fluid in combat and it’s good enough to carry the game by itself, much better gunplay than gta. And the story is not the worst, though it is a slog occasionaly. Graphics do a lot of heavy lifting
