A New Law Just Forced Valve To Change Steam. (Steam is still the same but now they have to state that it is a license and not ownership) (www.youtube.com)

TL:DW Steam has now changed its language from buy game to A purchase of a digital product grants a licence to the product on steam. This may also be non compliant with the new regulation as it still uses the word purchase. Also GOG used this opportunity to let you know their games come with an installer that they cannot take...

muhyb,

It was always licenses on Steam, nothing changed in their ToS. Though there are some DRM-free games on Steam, even free from Steam-DRM.

muhyb,

Like Kichae mentioned, every media we buy is technically a license. License to use. However we own the physical part of it and we can use (read, watch, play etc.) it whenever we please. Should be like this with games as well. At least GOG does this. As long as an installer is in our hard drives, it’s a physical media.

muhyb,

I just wish GOG had regional prices like Steam does.

muhyb,

Yes, I immediately noticed my mistake and deleted my comment right away but apparently it still can be seen somewhere. I always forget about to edit my comment before deleting. Curse of ActivityPub. :)

Should be correctly deleted now I hope.

muhyb,

No problem and glad to hear. :)

Moneyless Harvest Moon-type game?

I have such a love/hate relationship with Stardew Valley, slightly less so with My Time At Portia (the developers seem to have at least considered wrist strain in the button layout and mechanics). I long for a moneyless, classless game in this genre where the incentives are community thriving, trust, pleasure, and all the other...

muhyb,

Not exactly moneyless but imagine quality of life improvements for Stardew Valley. That’s “Fields of Mistria”.

muhyb,

Maybe some CRPGs? Like Shadowrun Returns. Missions will be longer than 10 minutes but you can save it any time once it’s your turn.

Here's 3 reasons I'm actually pretty optimistic about Dragon Age: The Veilguard despite being an old school RPG sicko (www.pcgamer.com)

As a long time Dragon Age fan, I’ve been really, just iffy about Dragon Age: The Veilguard, especially since the very first trailer that they put out. The vibes were way off, like they were making a trailer for a Fortnite crossover rather than a dark fantasy game. The gameplay trailer afterward did seem to be more of what I...

muhyb,

To be fair, after all those layoffs and that trailer, I’m far from being optimistic.

Long Dark dev criticises Manor Lords for lack of updates, Hooded Horse CEO replies that not every game needs to be "some live-service boom or bust" (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Interesting thoughts about how to define success for video games in today’s market, particularly for those using early access. Lots of respect for Hooded Horse’s CEO, Tim Bender, he says all the right things and seems genuine....

muhyb,

I do that to help some of the indie devs I like. I don’t play them until the final release or don’t contribute any other way. Did that for Factorio, Mashinky, Soviet Republic, Songs of Syx, Kingdoms Reborn, Farthest Frontier, etc.

muhyb,

It’s pretty basic at the moment. I bought it to support since I like to support indie devs. I probably won’t play until the final release though.

By the way, also check Ostriv.

Out of the medieval ones, I think Farthest Frontier is the most mature one.

If medieval part is not important, Soviet Republic is the most complex one.

muhyb,

No problem! Their final release should be close too. Have fun :)

muhyb,

If Steam controller also had joysticks, it would be the ultimate controller.

muhyb,

Torchlight I & II are easily my favourite ARPGs. I wish Runic also did Torchlight III but sadly the studio is closed and its just an abomination with Chinese mobile game aspects.

muhyb,

Just FYI, Beehaw doesn’t have downvote button so that’s probably why.

muhyb,

Why do I have a feeling that they will ruin this with MTX?

Also Starcraft ended perfectly. Even though I would want more from Starcraft series, this doesn’t feel like Starcraft.

muhyb,

Too bad (for them). I hope Tempest Rising won’t end like this too. I really want to see another RTS era, but not like this.

muhyb,

Started Farming Simulator 22. It works incredibly well under Wayland but you should disable V-sync for that.

muhyb,

Also featuring Dante from Devil May Cry Series.

muhyb,

I mean, if you’re a successful thief there is no combat. :)

muhyb,

Well, it was a joke but combat count can be reduced. You cannot fully avoid it I think.

muhyb,

Maybe Devil May Cry games, or Bayonetta?

muhyb,

5 is the only one I haven’t played yet so cannot really make a comment there, but you can check the older ones like HD collection. It has the first three games.

By the way I didn’t mention earlier but Ys series with nightmare difficulty could be a nice action for you. They have a boss-rush mode where you only fight the bosses.

muhyb,

Godzilla had a stroke trying to read that title.

muhyb,

Then Serious Sam is an AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa game.

muhyb,

Thank you very much for giving away nice games, you’re a cool person.

I also have enough backlog, though Tunguska seems interesting. If no one wants it, you can send it to me. Otherwise I’m fine. :)

Happy holidays! <3

muhyb,

You too!

I just wrote that because they have an expiration date. Glad it found a new home.

muhyb,

If you don’t work at Valve, these are pretty much meaningless.

muhyb,

I can see how this is a good exercise for the one who makes it and maybe for others who are interested in the field. However, just because it has Steam in the title, doesn’t mean it’s related to a gaming community.

muhyb,

Well I didn’t say anything about the video (though apparently it sounded kinda harsh, could’ve worded better). But yeah, while the video is not perfect, it raises some very good points about Steam’s UX. Just not the correct community. However since Lemmy isn’t big enough as Reddit, I guess this is acceptable for now.

muhyb,

For BG3, don’t search something about it, just start and play. You don’t need to know anything prior, however it’s a role-playing game so play accordingly what kind of character you created. You can save-scumming if you want if some desicion you made leads to something bad, though they all the part of the game. Just play and experience.

For games like Overwatch, it isn’t complicated at all. It just requires you to play it constantly and learn counter measures just by playing. Learning them is the fun part, overthinking about them not so much.

To be fair when I see “complex game” part, I was kinda expexting some advanced building games, something like Factorio, maybe RimWorld.

Anyway, also you don’t have to like any games even if they are overwhelmingly positive titles. Just find what you like and dig in.

muhyb,

For some weird reason, someone really loves to unlock areas by climbing to a tower.

muhyb,

If there is not a special reason for mini PC, you can get a pretty decent desktop for $1000.

muhyb,

Depends on the game but I got mine on a black friday sale (4 years ago) for $500 and I had no problems with Battlefield V, Death Stranding, Deathloop, Mount & Blade Bannerlord etc. Even without a discount $1000 is a nice budget for a decent PC (Not including the monitor since mini PCs also don’t come with a monitor). If you catch discounts you can even build a great one.
