givesomefucks,

Everyone’s different, and you can get used to a lot.

So some people might not be able to tell 90fps from 120fps, but I definitely notice. But if I played something at 90 for long enough, I’d get used to it and stop noticing how much worse it was from 120 fps.

I will say they don’t get near enough credit for not only adaptive triggers, but them working on damn near any game that appears on PlayStation even while on PC.

I bought a ps5 just for those triggers, and gave it away (but kept a controller) once it worked on PC.

That’s the direction Playstation needs to go. If they made a new controller with Hall Effect sticks and 4 back buttons they’d absolutely clean up. They came so close with the edge, but didn’t give a back button for half the face buttons. And went “replaceable” sticks that will eventually break instead of Hall Effect.

givesomefucks,

This is a card game to them, they’re sitting at the table in Vegas and are doing anything they can to make it look like the company is valuable just long enough to con someone else into buying it.

It’s not even a card game, it’s lotto scratchers.

A card game implies they give thought and treat each situation unique and change strategies

They’re buying billion dollar companies left and right hoping for a quick payday because they’re obsessed with watching their bank account numbers go up.

givesomefucks,

but they’re putting out one game every generation

That wasn’t as big of a deal when it was a two year console cycle…

But I think for hardware and software, consoles keep wanting to hit metrics, because that’s what the parent company looks at.

The result is usually all flash and every game hitting the same points that were popular 5 years ago when development started

There’s no risks, so there’s no payoff. They have built in audiences so they still make money and keep getting paid.

Shit only changes when an I die game blows up and AAA try to integrate what made that game popular.

givesomefucks,

I wanted to love the original and sunk a lot of hours into it…

But it just never really scratched tgat HoMM itch like I wanted.

All the “endless” games seem super interesting and I love the never ending lore. It just feels like something is missing from all their games.

The new HoMM still just has “2025” as a release date, no idea when it’s actually releasing

givesomefucks,

But then again, maybe he is just another CEO asshole and has always been lol.

When you fire everyone that disagrees with you, it doesn’t take long to loose the ability to handle criticism.

Like, there’s a very good chance this guy has had absolutely nothing but praise while “working” on this game. So now that people whose job doesn’t depend on making him feel like a genius are giving feedback, it literally breaks his brain.

He most likely genuinely believes the game is perfect and all the criticism is from “trolls and haters” who are just lying because their jealous of his genius.

There’s a reason this attitude is so pervasive among the wealthy.

givesomefucks,

That feeds back into what I was saying, it’s the same thing.

The first couple times you dick someone over for money, you’re gonna feel bad.

But everyone at the company is going to pat you on the back and say you’re a genius cuz numbers went up.

Anyone who says it wasn’t worth the numbers going up, gets fired.

The wealthy live in a bubble where the only people they interact with only care about money

Our whole capitalist society is a giant feedback loop that concentrates wealth and strips the wealthy of their humanity.

It’s not like there’s some problem where something is broken, this is the natural and logical result of how we’ve spent the last couple generations

Unregulated capitalism always ends in an oligarchy with most people penniless

givesomefucks,

Apparently the graphics are basically the same as 3, but performance is dog shit on even the best hardware and crashes are unavoidable.

When people complained, he said they need to use AI fake frame and upscale from 720. Which still wasn’t good performance.

It might get fixed later in updates. But this guy is handling so badly he might legitimately be mentally unwell. It’s at the point it’s weird he still has a job

givesomefucks,

The author picked a clan that’s all about brute force…

Then complains the game was about brute force except for the parts where you play a vampire from another clan.

I don’t even know much about WoD, but I know he picked the most boring clan and then complained it was boring action.

The reactions to what clan you pick is where the RPG parts seem to come in from other reviews I’ve read.

It’s not like it’ll be a perfect game, but I feel like whoever wrote the review didn’t really get the game.

Does anyone else find it suspicious that there wasn't any criticism on here about Stop Killing Games until after it hit 1.4M signatures? angielski

As the title suggests, over the last couple of days there’s been an influx of doomer comments over the SKG petition. While it’s fine to disagree, I’m finding it suspicious that there weren’t comments like this posted a week or 2 ago

givesomefucks,

Pretty sure:

  1. Yes, this is a legit thing the EU cares about. However that’s also why I’ve always wondered why they’re soliciting signatures outside the EU…
  2. Didn’t it come out that the people who pushed payroll processors to force studios to censor, have been found out to be a bunch of far right religious extremists who definitely aren’t going to stop here.
givesomefucks,

It’s possible there’s multiple out there

I just at one point also wondered what the point of a petition was because I’m a jaded American

givesomefucks,

In an actual free market all the corporations would act like this, because shit like this is what people want out of a business they patronize.

You will recall that there was a bit of a fuss a month or so ago when an undoubtedly-harried GameStop employee stapled some customer receipts directly to Nintendo Switch 2 boxes—and through the boxes, and into the Switch 2 units themselves. It was all quickly resolved, without lawsuits or fistfights, and with the ugliness now behind it GameStop is looking to make some proverbial lemonade by auctioning off the Switch 2 killer for charity.

No lawsuits, no fight required by affected consumers

The company made it right and turned a bad situation into a PR move that helps a charity.

I really thought we’d see some kind of ethical capitalism out of the whole GameStop thing but it never really spread.

givesomefucks,

Microsoft flat out said it in an investor meeting years ago…

It’s not exactly a secret

givesomefucks,

Like every other post OP makes, yes, it’s obviously to get people to play their game.

I searched the channel expecting it to be the only video and also OP:

www.youtube.com/

But instead they just faked the acreenshot, it’s not even a real video

givesomefucks,

OP faked the screenshot

www.youtube.com/

The last video was from 7 years ago, but the 87 subscribers is legit for some reason

givesomefucks,

Like waiting 6 months for them to panic over low sales and put on 50% sale?

Maybe, or maybe I’ll wait for the ultimate edition with all dlc to hit $40

givesomefucks,

Yeah. I think someone used the term “historic” appropriately, that it’s old

And people are assuming it was used as an exaggeration like “this is a big deal”.

givesomefucks,

As of a year ago, GTA 5 had made over $9,000,000,000.

That’s a billion with a B.

Mostly off micro transactions to children.

They don’t need to charge $90, but if people will pay it, they’ll charge it.

givesomefucks,

Part of why it’s so ridiculous some Americans are legally prohibited from participating in BDS, is people only know if you tell them.

You can just not buy it and never mention why.

And unfortunately, lots of people aren’t even aware it’s illegal:

newsweek.com/pro-palestinian-protest-states-colle…

givesomefucks,

HOW does this genocidal state have such an insane stranglehold on our country?

Before AIPAC there was another Israeli organization that donated to politicians.

After years of fighting a committee ruled that it had to register as a foreign agent.

So Israel created AIPAC and then gave Max donations to the people on the committee that decides who has to register as a foreign agent.

Which is why AIPAC has never had to register.

As both parties continually got rid of campaign finance law, AIPAC kept increasing what they gave, and started throwing insane money at anyone critical of Israel in the primary when it’s cheap.

Over decades they’ve bought the only two options and ensured the only two options were peo-Israel over anything else

The worst part …

They’re not the only organization, even foreign country. Doing this to ensure they always win.

Luckily while Ken Martin does have a pro-Israel bias, while running Minnesota he was one of the few state chairs who refused to work against anti-genocide Dems in primaries or generals. Which resulted in Minnesota being one of the progressive strongholds despite no one guessing it would shake out that way a decade ago.

So I want to be clear:

The people fucking up the DNC for decades is gone, we need to support the new DNC to keep it out of their hands. The people running the DNC six months ago wants the current DNC to take the fall so they can move back in.

givesomefucks,

Lately I’ve used it with is Baldur’s Gate 3

Yeah, turn based CRPGs is the only time I turn that stuff on.

But there seems to be two types of frame generation:

  1. A real frame is generated, then it guesses, then real frame is generated.
  2. Two real frames are generated, then they “fill in the gaps” with fake frames.

For 1 it doesn’t create lag, but it may guess wrong then have to correct on the next real frame.

For 2 the fake frames are going to be correct, but a lot of latency is added.

Neither is an issue for CRPG, but can be a huge issue in shooters, fighting games, and PvE like Dark Souls.

The problem is manufactures are now counting all the fake frames in their stats while ignoring every issue that pops up from that.

givesomefucks,

It’s a good point tho, DC is compact and designed that way with a solid lore reason.

NA should be more spread out lore wise, and it is.

The big mistake was having the navigation pathing direct you to fast travel station to move about the same map. So if you tried to walk places in NA, it was likely to make you walk to the closest fast travel point, even if it’s in the opposite direction. Which prevents players from learning the map and getting lost when they realize what’s happening and don’t want the loading screen for fast travel.

Like, I agree with the guy, but it’s not a design problem, it’s a pathing problem.

givesomefucks,

It’s risk assessment.

If you have a startup and someone offers you 9 figures so they’re the CEO and you still run the day to day…

You’d be an idiot to risk it, because any number of billion dollar companies can fuck you over thru innumerable ways.

So every once and a while someone with shit tier risk assessment lucks out and suddenly becomes unimaginable rich. And those are the people making offers on the next generation of startups.

The system is set up so the worst people possible run shit. Because no sane person would keep “letting it ride” to the point they make billions, and a crazy person who does becomes too big to fail. And once they get to that point, they’ve convinced themselves no one else is smart enough to play Russian roulette 100 times in a row.

At that point they’ve conned themselves into really believing they’re geniuses who know more than anyone.

givesomefucks,

So play something else?

They do it because people like you will keep paying from Day 1.

If it’s 120/year and 50/expansion…

How much money have you given them?

When are you going to do what actually matters and stop instead of complaining while giving them thousands of dollars?

givesomefucks,

And the very top comment was removed for pointing out that account was very bot like with it’s posting…

And in the meantime OP created their account and makes the same kind of posts…

givesomefucks,

The only thing that makes sense in my head as to why Until Dawn is underperforming is the game’s lack of promotion. Aside from a couple of trailers, I have barely seen Sony promote this remaster.

Couldn’t possibly be that people don’t want to keep paying new game prices for remasters…

People live rebuying decade old console exclusives on the next console generation.

givesomefucks,

Yeah, but Gabe is down to 25% ownership.

He could be pushed out at anytime. It’s this weird situation where if a serious challenger to Steam really takes off, the 75% may demand Steam gets shittier to make more money.

But Gabe won’t last forever anyways, who knows what will happen without him. Which means people do want some kind of challenger to prevent a monopoly, but that just makes the other scenario more likely

Steam is already a huge outlier

givesomefucks,

Not sure, apparently the 25% figure is really new, Wikipedia is sourcing something from 2017 that says he has 50+.

This is the most up to date I can find that attributes a source

guru3d.com/…/microsoft-reportedly-readies-billion…

Insights from Dior, a prominent figure in the Counter-Strike community, reveal that Gabe Newell owns less than 25% of Valve. This suggests that a significant portion of Newell’s wealth is tied to his equity in the company. The decision to sell Valve wouldn’t rest solely with Newell; numerous employees who likely hold stock options could also have a say through a voting process if an offer were made.

So it sounds like a lot was given to employees from the beginning, which track with Gabe.

Then he may have cashed out a couple times, but I doubt that when he could just do the billionaire thing where he borrows against his stock counting on the value increasing enough to pay off the last with a new?

But then again Gabe is different and might not do that out of principle.

It’s not publicly traded, so I guess we don’t really know unless Valve discloses who owns what. Which I just realized is pretty concerning on its own.

givesomefucks,

Usually it’s forced arbitration, you can’t sue

It really favors the company. Steam is explicitly saying no arbitration which levels the playing field.

Arbitration doesn’t save money. You still need lawyers.

What’s bigger is this explicitly says it allows class actions. Something that most prevent and require individual arbitration, consumers are better off when they can pool resources for lawyers against a giant corporation, especially since most would require an upfront payment for a large class action.

givesomefucks,

It’s usually a pretty hard sell of “make the company you work at shittier to make more money”, especially since most of the employees probably know gabe personally (valve has less than 400 employees) and likely approve of his leadership.

And most of the ones with the high percent have been there since the beginning, probably close to Gabe’s age, looking towards retirement. They make good money, but retirement is expensive.

I mean. That link from this year said Microsoft was thinking 16 billion. 1% of that is 160 million.

Or they may die and their kids see dollar signs when a vote comes up

Steam is great now, it’s not debatable. But its naive to expect it indefinitely. 10 years, 20 years from now? It wouldn’t be surprising if Valve was a lot shittier than it is today

It won’t last forever

givesomefucks,

I’ve literally never seen any person argue that forced arbitration is a good thing for consumers…

It’s always corporations

givesomefucks,

Oh, I’m fully aware it sucks, just not sure why that person is defending it

givesomefucks,

I mean, triple A just meant a big studio made it.

So I’m assuming quadruple A is going to be a game from a large study thats recently been bought by a giant corporation and fucked with everything despite not knowing video games.

So yeah, that’s pretty much what AAAA means, although some end up decent

givesomefucks,

It’s the same use everyone else has “found”…

Getting people to give you money for it

But why not just sell pre-orders like a Kickstarter game?

givesomefucks,

I’m so glad they haven’t sold out to a large American corporation yet.

It’s gotta be hard to turn down all that money, but large American corporations would want to buy it just to squash the competition

givesomefucks,

Tencent wants market share, not money.

The money comes later, like how Uber used to be a good service.

givesomefucks,

It was the last “hard” puzzle before everyone was able to just Google it if they got stuck

It didn’t stick out as hard to me, but when I went to school everyone was bitching about it. I ended up having people bring me their games so I could beat Water Temple for them so they could keep playing.

givesomefucks,

So it’s a free “game” where you type a word that pops up?

Wonder what the grift is.

givesomefucks,

I mean, there aren’t many free games that are actually free…

givesomefucks,

The abundance of back-to-back solar events has led scientists to think the sun may have entered its explosive era of peak activity, known as solar maximum — which seems to be starting a year earlier than previous forecasts predicted. However, researchers will have to wait until the sun “calms down” to know for sure.

What we do know is that X-class flares are most common during solar maximum, which is part of the sun’s 11-year solar cycle. So far in 2024, seven X-class flares, including the latest one, have burst from the sun, which is already half the number that reached Earth in 2023, Live Science previously reported.

On a long enough timescale, we’re gonna be hit by a big one.

I remember like a decade ago they were saying it hits a developed area, it’ll blow out all the transformers, and on that scale no country could replace them all for a very long time.

givesomefucks,

I’ll just never get over how “we” (science I guess) know that stuff like this isn’t a question of if, but when.

And we just don’t seem to get ready for it.

Like, Y2K we saw coming and everyone handled it in time. But if there’s no firm date on something, everyone with the power to do anything just ignores it.

As a society it just feels like we’re living paycheck to paycheck. Can’t worry about next year cuz rents due in two weeks shit.

It’s just not a good way to go about things.

givesomefucks,

Yes, we get hit by them all the time…

What everyone else is talking about is a big one.

givesomefucks,

From the article you didn’t read:

I should make it absolutely clear, this is a joke

From OPs summary you didn’t read:

Pocketpair reveals a Palworld dating sim as part of an April Fool’s Day joke

But hey, if you’re not sure, you’re better off asking.

givesomefucks,

I mean, all that was intentional…

But this was a dying business years ago, it was propped up by a few people who made a shit ton of money and a whole bunch of idiots they convinced to hold the bag.

GameStop was never going to last long, it was just delayed

What does getting "delisted" off Steam means for games I already own? angielski

Recently I’ve seen news about adult swim games going delisted probably off steam, one of my fav games is published by adult swim games and I want to know what will happen to it, will steam strike it off my list even if I have it installed? Will I still be able to back it up and restore its backups? Will I still be able to...

givesomefucks,

Pretty sure nothing changes for you.

Obviously in this case, no more updates. If there’s a server, it’s getting shut down. And no new players will buy it. So player count will decrease until it’s a dead game, even if multiplayer is peer to peer. But I doubt that’s the case.

How Do You Deal With Thumb Stick Drift? (lemmy.world) angielski

So I like to use Xbox controllers (doesn’t matter if it’s first- or third-party) because I like the layout, it’s just comfortable to me. However I’ve noticed that on all my controllers in the past few years, the left thumb stick will start to “give out” over the course of a couple months. For instance I’ll be...

givesomefucks,

Why does the Geo Metro exist when everyone could just drive Ferraris?

If controllers arent replaceable, you’re going to make them more durable, which raises price.

It’s a trade off

givesomefucks,

With non replaceable controller…

Like, there’s lots of different components. The cheaper overall may have better parts in a few specific areas, because if it breaks, the whole thing is broken.

givesomefucks,

Jack Black as claptrap might be good, but who cast Kevin Hart as Roland?

givesomefucks,

I always thought of our universes as just a bubble, with dark matter all around us. It’s not the edge of the existence as much as the edge of our bubble.

We might not be the only bubble, but it’s impossible to interact or even observe them. Could be millions, could just be us. No way to every know.

Our bubble keeps expanding, until the edges aren’t dense enough to displace whatever’s out there. And we’ll either slowly fade and future civilizations will assume the universe has always shrunk. Because that’s all they’ve ever seen. Like if the human lifespan was a single minute, people would freak out everytime it approaches dawn or dusk. Not understanding that it’s a cycle.

It’s all about timescale.
