The Steam Deck? It’s very different. It comes with an unlocked bootloader, so you can install any operating system you want. Even though it’s a “Steam” Deck, you can buy and play games from any store you want, even on the stock Valve operating system.
It’s also somewhat easy to repair, includes official repair guides and replacement parts programs.

If something that would normally be copyrightable is leaked, then the only people who have legal rights to that work are still the original owners. Anyone taking/sharing it is breaching copyright.
It’s like you’re trying really hard to contort the discussion to make it seem like Nintendo has solid a case here. All the protections you’re talking about apply to works regardless of when or how they’re released. From the point of view of copyright law, a “leaked” recording of a game is no different from a regular recording of a game. Afaik, the guy in the OP isn’t being accused of sharing leaked game files.

Oblivion was the first game I ever put 100+ hours into, but every time I’ve tried to get back into it over the years, it was just too clunky and awkward. Bethesda games always age poorly.
But this remaster is fucking incredible and I very irresponsibly wasted an entire day yesterday playing it. They fixed and polished it so it feels like a modern game again. The only issue I had was poor performance in a lot of areas, like frequent drops down to 40 fps on my powerful PC. I’m hoping a patch will fix that soon.
Admittedly, my opinion is heavily clouded by nostalgia, so temper your expectations in case my comment actually convinces you to buy it. It’s a great game, but it’s smaller and somewhat clunkier than Skyrim.
I loaded it up on my Deck last night for a few minutes using the default settings (low preset) and was getting what seemed like a stable 30 fps running around in Skingrad. Other people have reported sub-20 FPS when in the open world on the Deck, so it’s probably not the best choice unless they patch it
Why not? Just because the Switch 2 can do 4k60 doesn’t mean it’s super powerful. Thd Switch 1 was obsolete when it launched, so a hardware upgrade over that could be literally anything. For reference, even the Raspberry Pi can do 4k60 nowadays.
Afaik, Switch 2 specs haven’t been revealed (have they?) so we don’t know yet what to expect, but considering it’s a handheld it will likely have similar power constraints to the Deck, possibly even more to achieve longer battery life. (But tbf, the deck is relatively old by now and could itself benefit from an upgrade). As far as emulation, we at least know Nintendo considered it worth the effort to try to take down all Switch 1 emulators before even revealing fhe Switch 2, probably suggesting it’s not going to be hard to emulate.
The trailer mentions that the Switch 2 can do 4k60 when docked only on some games. Just knowing Nintendo’s cheap asses, I doubt you’ll get that from any significant 3D title. It’ll probably be limited mostly to 2D titles, simple 3D ones, or maybe some hyper-polished first party titles. I doubt you’ll see that in the new Bloodborne, possibly not even 120 while in handheld either.
Wdym? Last I tried it, Switch emulation on the Deck was nearly perfect. I played the entirety of Metroid Dread on it with zero issues, and a couple of other games (Breath of the Wild, Smash, and Odyssey)
With a setup like this, you can keep moving the goal post until you win all your little internet arguments. Personally, I’m not a fanboy for neither Nintendo nor Valve, so I really don’t care to get into this kind of atgument.
My point is that there’s no reason to think the Switch 2 can’t be emulated on the Deck, at least not until we get more information.

This is one of those radical ideas that people are terrified of, because it would kill the business models of a lot of massive corporations. It’s easy to spin that as the death of the game industry, rather than what it is: the death of a business practice.
Like the laws against underage smoking probably wiped out billions in shareholder value, but that was objectively a good thing. Banning (or heavily regulating) in-game purchases would also be a good thing, no matter how much it affects existing players. If it leads to the death of name brands like EA, Ubisoft, etc. then who cares? The market will readjust and new players who were able to adapt to the changed environment will take their place.
A few days ago, EA re-released two of its most legendary games: The Sims and The Sims 2. Dubbed the “The Legacy Collection,” these could not even be called remasters. EA just put the original games on Steam with some minor patches to make them a little more likely to work on some modern machines....
EA should split itself up or sell off some franchises. The current situation makes nobody happy: investors don’t like the profitability of single player games, players don’t like the live serviceification of single player games, and I’m sure devs don’t like that they can’t work on projects that likely inspired them to become game devs in the first place.
The Sims franchise could support a medium sized studio on its own.
I played the Sims 1&2 as a kid, and love the fuck out of them. As an adult with disposable income, I would have gladly dropped even $100 on a proper modernized rerelease of these games I love. Instead, I saved my money and downloaded them for free. Because why the hell wouldn’t I? The pirate versions are literally better. EA is squandering the potential of this and many other IPs
This is not a good way to look at it. Competition is good regardless. It doesn’t matter how good Valve is today, if a viable competitor comes out, Valve will be forced to get better in order to compete.

This is wrong. Valve can enshittify without going public. If you think that public corporations are the only ones that are greedy/evil/anti-consumer, then you’ve never heard of the “private equity” industry. Look up the recent fight between the FTC and U.S. Anesthesia Partners in Texas for a clear example.
In capitalism, free market forces are what keep tug of war between produces and consumers fair, and competition is the fuel that keeps those free market forces moving. The fact that the Valve of today is both good and a monopoly is just a temporary rounding error/outlier. Over time, Valve will go to shit and consumers will suffer simply because Valve has almost no competition. This isn’t a question, it’s a fact of the mechanism of the economic system they exist in. It’s like gravity; just because you haven’t hit the floor yet doesn’t mean jumping off that building was a good idea.
Epic games, whether you hate them or not, is fighting the good fight. They are doing shitty things (exclusivity, etc), so maybe they aren’t the chosen one who will take challenge Valve, but they are on the right side of that fight. Hoping that Valve will stay great forever is foolish.
…but I will add that I don’t think Epic alone should be trying to take down Valve. Valve is way too entrenched in this market to be taken down with any realistic competition (probably why Epic is resorting to exclusivity deals). The FTC needs to step in and regulate the market. Idk what that would look like, but it’s possible to do it in a way that makes everyone happy. For example (off the top of my head, so probably flawed but whatever) the FTC could enforce interoperability between digital marketplaces so that consumers don’t need to install 30 different launchers to access their purchased libraries. That relatively small change could lower the bar to entry for competitors by a lot, and not be a burden to consumers at the same time. EDIT: and it would not be anything drastic like forcing a break up of Valve.
Unregulated capitalism doesn’t work. I don’t think anyone has ever seriously claimed that it does. The FTC isn’t the only thing keeping the market fair, the free market does that on its own. When a company does a shitty thing, they lose customers and die. That’s true in pretty much every market in the real world, except for a few problematic ones where there are bad actors trying to cheat the system.
I meant that they’re fighting Valve, which is “the good fight”. They’re not the only ones doing it, and they’re definitely not the best ones doing it, but they’re doing it. If they do manage to take a big chunk out of Valve’s marketshare somehow, that will be good for everyone, even people who decide to stay on Steam.

I’ve been on Silverblue (well, Kinoite) for quite a while now, and the only issue I remember having was that I had to use flatseal once to give steam access to an external drive when adding a new library folder.
Everything seems to work fine. I’ve never been prevented from playing a game when I wanted to due to immutability or flatpak issues.
Maybe I’m in the minority here but I’m not a huge fan of the recent trend of sex in mainstream video games. Besides the janky awkwardness of polygons, there’s something off-putting to me about my character having sex. Am I supposed to be pretending that it’s me as I watch the animation happening? When I play a game (esp. an RPG) I can get really immersed in the experience and feel like the mouse/controller is an extension of my hand, shooting fireballs and whatnot. So is it also supposed to be an extension of my penis when my character starts having sex? Am I supposed to be jacking off for maximum immersion?
In movies it’s different because when a character in a movie has sex, the audience understands that they’re watching someone else do it. I’ve never seen a movie where I’m supposed to pretend like I’m the main character and I’m the one having sex. (Hardcore Henry notwithstanding)
I have nothing against porn or adult games as their own thing, but encountering it in a regular game always throws me out of the immersion. Coming from a mainstream studio, it also just feels like a desperate cash grab aimed at horny teenagers more than anything else, even if it’s nothing more than a short fade to black.
Oh wow that looks a lot like the From Software game Dark Souls. That game sold really well and was a lot of fun, so it was smart of this company to make a similar game! They also added a funny to it because that makes it unique and creative.

I only played a few hours on my Steam Deck (because it would freeze on my PC), but what I saw was slightly disappointing. The game looks great, even on the Steam Deck with FSR blurring everything, the gun mechanics are fun, the character animations are the best I’ve ever seen from this studio. The performance is also very good on the Deck, with stable 60FPS 30FPS (edit: when I wrote this initially I was just eyeballing it, but didn’t bother to check that Steam capped the frame rate to 30 by default lol, so it was actually 30 and not 60…my bad) in indoor scenes and playable sub-30 in large outdoor areas.
…but the exploration. Man, Bethesda is known for their exploration, yet the spaceship is a gimmick at best. To be fair, I haven’t played enough to get familiar with everything yet, but I don’t expect that part to get much better. The game feels like Fallout, except instead of having a giant seamless open world to explore, you have a giant open world with tedious transitions between different areas. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but it’s not at all what I was expecting.
EDIT: update after playing some more.
The game definitely grew on me! The exploration is still shitty, but everything else makes up for it. I’m at ~9 hours on my Steam Deck, and even with all the FSR blurring I’m enjoying it a lot. I started doing a side quest collecting on bad debts for a bank, and during one of them I found a mission terminal on Mars offering a reward to anyone who surveys a distant planet, and on my way to the planet I picked up a distress call from a settler asking for help to fight off a bunch of pirates, and stumbled upon a drama between 3 settler families, then hijacked a pirate ship and found some “sentient AI” contraband inside and then… I went to sleep because it was late.
So in short, it definitely feels like a typical Bethesda game, but in a good way. Just side quests on top of side quests, but with less bugs.
The ship combat is still bland. I found it very easy. Idk if it’s because it’s early in the game, but no enemy has even gotten close to killing me, even when it’s 3 on 1 and we’re using the exact same unmodified ship. On the one hand, that’s boring, but on the other hand I appreciate not having to spend a lot of time in ship combat. However, now that I discovered how to board and hijack a ship, the combat is slightly more interesting.
And again, I did all of this on Steam Deck, with the only performance issue being on Mars and New Atlantis, which are both big cities/hub areas. It was still playable, but a blurry FSR mess. I disabled FSR because I hate the blurring, and it dropped the FPS pretty hard. Luckily, I didn’t have to spend a lot of time in those locations.
I played a few more hours today in handheld (yesterday was on power and connected to an HDMI display).
I did notice worse performance, but that could also be because the content was different. The game is still fully playable, and I had fun murdering a bunch of pirates in an abandoned fracking station. New Atlantis (the first big hub city) ran like dogshit though. It struggled to maintain 30 and was blurry as hell, but yesterday it ran better. Idk, this isn’t scientific at all.
Just adding this extra info in case someone sees my first comment and thinks the game will run perfectly. Playable? Very much so. Recommended? Only if you can’t play on something more powerful.
I was having the same problem until I switched to the preview branch and installed the latest system update, and I also switched it proton experimental. My current Steam OS version is 3.4.9, although I see there’s another update available.

You’re right, just checked my emails and saw that the code is for “Overwatch 2 Invasion Ultimate Bundle”, which I guess is DLC or something. It was bundled with a Zotac 4090 on Amazon.
Just because the studio shut down doesn’t necessarily mean they lost their jobs. Often (especially for a giant publisher like Embracer), talent gets moved to other studios since it’s easier and cheaper than hiring new people.
But when you’re part of a smaller studio, you have creative control and freedom you don’t get when you’re a cog in someone else’s machine. People who go into this industry typically are looking for that more than just a salary, especially since other non-game jobs usually pay better. Although, idk what Volition was like internally, so maybe it sucked to work there.
