eezeebee, do gaming w Linux has had a great year, but there are two reasons I can't tear myself away from Windows
@eezeebee@lemmy.ca avatar

I have to run “fsck /dev/sda9” every time my Mint laptop battery dies. No idea why or how to automate that if it’s possible. The last time took like 9 hours to check everything, AND THEN told me I had to run some check again and can’t use “-y” and had to manually enter “y” for every prompt. Wtf and why? I thought Mint was the normie distro made for me.

eezeebee, do games w Do you preorder games?
@eezeebee@lemmy.ca avatar

Preorder, no. I don’t usually buy brand new games. FF Tactics remake was the most recent and I needed to see a few days of reviews to build the trust to buy it. Maybe if Fromsoft releases another one-player game I’ll consider that. I’m not sure the types of developers I usually buy games from tend to even do preorder, it seems to be bigger studios from what I have seen.

Early access, yes for a few select indie developers that I want to support. ATLYSS because it’s priced low and looks great. Into the Unwell will be a day 1 purchase once it reaches early access, since I have played the closed beta and know I want it. Trinity 64 will be another one I’m excited for if it gets an EA release. I’m ok with EA for these because they’re the types of games I yearn for and I want more of them, and I know my contribution makes an impact to the devs.

It looks great and it’s been on my wishlist. Unfortunately the price is not right for me yet, and there were other games of higher priority on my wishlist for now. Maybe next year.

I think it’s normal to have comfort games.

There’s no shame in not finishing something if you got enough out of it. Maybe a little bit of guilt because you paid for it, but you can always go back and finish it later.

Maybe it’s a good idea to stop adding to the backlog knowing that you’re not as likely to finish new ones. At least until the backlog is clear. Maybe you find more comfort games in the backlog and have even less time for new ones.

eezeebee, do games w Games that I finished this year so far. Probably the best year of gaming for me since 2007

Did you make this chart yourself from scratch or is there some kind of tracking tool to help?

Pretty spot on video.

I just ordered the plushy because it’s on sale and I love Chewnic so much. I love the fox.

I haven’t played very many, and these might not be pure Metroidvanias, but I recommend:

The Messenger

Pseudoregalia

Tunic

Lunacid. Just finished 100%ing it and I’m impressed. I wasn’t expecting to get so much out of it, but it took nearly 40 hours.

eezeebee, do games w Once again, looking for PS2 game suggestions!
@eezeebee@lemmy.ca avatar

Lots of good suggestions already, but I don’t think I saw anyone mention Twisted Metal: Black. It’s very dark and lots of fun.

I’ve been on a 3D platformer binge.

Just finished Castle on the Coast and was pleasantly surprised. It starts off feeling a little janky, but after the first 30-60 minutes realize it’s intentional and you are a silly giraffe parkour GOD. Some later levels get into abstract platforming and refreshingly different mechanics than I’ve experienced before. Worth checking out if you’re a 3D platformer-head.

Currently playing through Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Never played any of them before, but always wanted to. Just finished the first one and it was quite fun, although I did not like the final boss. There should have been a checkpoint after the first phase (2 keys phase). Looking forward to finding out how they developed the mechanics from there in 2 and 3.

Demon Turf

3D platformer with some interesting mechanics and boss fights. Enjoying it so far. There are some mild collectathon elements, but nothing tedious. I like the art style a lot.
