_cryptagion,

That’s a pretty shitty comparison, considering the Skyblivion team didn’t work on the remaster. And why don’t you let the Skyblivion team speak for themselves? Because they’re quite happy.

_cryptagion,

Ok. Thanks for taking this stand, your service is appreciated.

_cryptagion,

It’s not great. I haven’t run into a single bug yet. How is this even a Bethesda game?

Literally unplayable!

_cryptagion,

It’s ironic that you’re looking at this from the same angle that you accuse Bethesda of. The Skyblivion team didn’t start this “labor of love”, as you correctly put it, to earn money. Yet all you can think about is how much money you think they’re missing out on. It really shows what your values in life are.

_cryptagion,

As much as I like Skyrim, I don’t think there’s a general consensus that the earlier games were better written.

Personally, until I played Phantom Liberty, the Shivering Isles was the best expansion I had ever played for any game. I’ll leave it to you to discover, if you get the game, but allow me to say it is delightful and different and a ton of fun.

_cryptagion,

I got it, and despite the performance issues everyone is talking about, the game is a wonderful trip down nostalgia lane. And unlike the original, they fixed a lot of the annoyances like the clunky UI.

_cryptagion,

Unless that’s styrofoam, it looks to me as if they’re on their way to getting a new car payment.

_cryptagion,

Because Valve has gone to fair lengths to not become shit, and they probably don’t want to start now.

_cryptagion,

Yes, I imagine you don’t. Which is probably why you asked the question in the first place.

_cryptagion,

Not Android specifically, I’m talking mobile games in general. I’m on iOS, and it’s not any better here. Mobile games are usually free for a reason, and that reason is that they are loaded with spyware, ads, and shitty monetization practices that I very highly doubt the majority of PC gamers on Windows, Linux, or MacOS would like to see become more prevalent on their platform.

And I while I don’t think Valve is some benevolent corporate overlord that’s looking out for what’s best for us, I do think they know how to extract a lot of value out of PC gamers for many years, and that’s by generally giving us what we want.

_cryptagion,

You won’t get a notification unless I reply directly to you, so see my reply to the other person.

_cryptagion,

If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

I won’t, because it isn’t a thing and never will be.

_cryptagion,

That’s the argument you decided to go with? Really?

Yeah, it’s not a problem in the same way that you having a cohesive thought happen to wander through your barren mind is not a problem.

_cryptagion,

That’s also not what they said. They said there’s no successful second app store that isn’t tied to hardware, which is true. F-Droid exists, but by no metric would it be considered seriously by anyone as a successful competitor to Google. And if there is somebody who thinks that, then you should give me their number, I have this investment idea that is guaranteed to give double or even triple returns, all I need is a seed investment of, say, $20k.

_cryptagion,

Yeah, when it very first came out, there was about four to six hours of content to be had. I don’t think two years in EA is that short of a time, you’re just used to games existing in a perpetual EA status so that they can excuse their bugs. I played Forever Skies, and I would say it deserves the Very Positive review status it has. It has a mournfully lonely feel to it, a sad sort of resignation at the fate of a humanity that didn’t go out in a bang, but the last wisps of which sputtered out like a candle dying in the ever present winds.

_cryptagion,

Is this what English sounds like to people who don’t speak it?

_cryptagion,

I look forward to playing these for free in a year or two when an emulator that works on the Steam Deck is released.

_cryptagion,

Well, then I look forward to playing games for this retro console for free in six years when an emulator drops for the Steam Deck 2.

_cryptagion,

BG3 has great voice acting, but I don’t really think it’s that far beyond any other games. As a personal example, Cherami Leigh as Female V in Cyberpunk 2077 is probably my favorite voice actor in the last several years, even if BG3 is probably my favorite game in that same time.

_cryptagion,

Oh shit yeah I’m gonna have to boot it up again

_cryptagion,

big games get delayed, a lot

And yet so many of them still suck at launch.

_cryptagion,

Well, to be fair, you don’t know you’re getting it for that. As far as I’ve seen, they haven’t announced the release price yet. And a lot of studios are hoping that Rockstar will take the fall for being the first $100 game so publishers can start charging used console prices for AAA games from then on.

Either way though, I won’t be paying anything for it.

_cryptagion,

There’s a reason for that, and it’s more than the usual Valve fanboyism. The Deck is objectively a better user experience than the alternatives, Steam Input is a masterpiece, Linux runs games better than Windows now (thanks, Gabe), and the community around it is friendly and super helpful to everyone.

Even a device with better specs will have trouble surpassing the Deck if they can’t cover these areas as well.

Avowed is the most fun I’ve have had since Skyrim! angielski

I’ve played Avowed for 15 hours, and this is the most fun I’ve had in an RPG since Skyrim released. It might not be as good as Skyrim, but it has a very similar feel for me, and I’ve encountered zero bugs so far. I’m having an absolute blast!...

_cryptagion,

Why would you apologize for a test not going well? That’s the whole point of a test.

_cryptagion,

It shouldn’t be, but here’s the thing. Valve isn’t distributing games out of the goodness of their own heart. They don’t want to have to process refunds for every person who buys it and realizes they aren’t allowed to play it. That’s just a waste of time and money for them. And Sony hasn’t invested in a launcher and store of their own on PC, so they’ve got no choice but to obey whatever conditions Valve puts on the sale of their games, unless they want to pause until they get a storefront up.

_cryptagion,

Not necessarily. There are examples of good games based on sci-fi franchises that aren’t riddled with shitty micro transactions. Starship Troopers: Extermination is a good example. It’s a base-building online cooperative FPS, and it’s actually a lot of fun. Surprisingly, even though you almost always play with strangers, (unless you have sixteen friends all ready to play) everyone has pretty good teamwork. I often see small groups sortie out in precise strikes into the bug horde to revive downed team mates.

The fact that this game exists, and is also being made by a smaller dev studio, never ceases to amaze me. This is a franchise that has produced several movies, video games, and related media. You wouldn’t expect the rights to something like this to be given to anyone but a big AAA publisher who can fork out a ton of money.

_cryptagion,

I like to think I had a very tiny hand in this, since I never pay for Ubisoft games I play.

_cryptagion,

I can respect that.

_cryptagion,

Yeah, I’m sure the biggest AI hardware company can be trusted to be unbiased about this.

_cryptagion,

You can always pirate without feeling bad about it.

_cryptagion,

That’s not entirely true, you could keep the videos up if all the ad revenue went to Nintendo. In other words, if you paid them so you could promote their game.

_cryptagion,

I look forward to pirating all those games too.

_cryptagion,

Most underrated comment on all of Lemmy.

_cryptagion,

Exclude the tag, and after awhile Steam will stop recommending them to you. If you’re seeing a lot of them, it’s because you’re looking at a lot of them.

Longtime buddy of mine just got a gaming PC. What games would make up a good "welcome to PC" care package? angielski

The issue is that I think there are Steam bundles that can’t be gifted, such as the Valve pack and that kind of thing. That also makes something like Civ 6 less likely, just because of the DLC bundles. I can also use Fanatical or Humble but frankly the region thing might be an issue....

_cryptagion,

They didn’t specifically say it needed to be a souls-like. In fact, if you had read the whole thing, they’re considering including a 2d platformer.

They want new experiences for their friend. They probably don’t want a game that their friend has already played on console.

_cryptagion,

The Chinese internet is always upset about something in gaming.

_cryptagion,

For fucks sake, Coffee is an investigative journalist, and he didn’t drum up shit. The problem has always been there, you idiots are just too busy sucking GabeN off that you can’t entertain the possibility that he isn’t the second coming of Christ.

_cryptagion,

What a strange way to look at it. Here Valve is, actively working to addict children to their unregulated gambling market, but yeah, let’s deflect the conversation by protecting them and pointing out how mean we think somebody else is being to them.

_cryptagion,

Or just fucking turn off trading stupid weapon skins? Idk, seems like the bare fucking minimum of effort.

_cryptagion,

All the sweaty middle-aged dudes with unwashed asses see GabeN as the only good billionaire. They’ll protect him with the same fervor that they use to try and keep women and POC out of gaming.

_cryptagion,

Typical ancap response.

_cryptagion,

What does that have to do with Dredge?

_cryptagion,

Time for the weekly Valve fuckbois griping about how Epic is destroying the fabric of reality.

_cryptagion,

Don’t bother trying to understand it. They’ll tell you it’s because Epic is “anti-consumer”, while ignoring anything Valve does that’s shitty. The same people will post in other threads how there’s “no good billionaires”, then come to this community and post shit like “all hail our savior, Lord GabeN”.

In truth, it boils down mostly to them seeing PC gaming as Valve’s fiefdom, and Epic is aggressively trying to force their way into the market, which upsets them. The fact they feel comfortable putting all of PC gaming into the hands of a single mega corporation is insane, because when Valve inevitably goes under, we’re going to lose a lot of gaming history all at once. Not to mention, it was Steam that was responsible for the advent of not owning the games you buy, something I consider to be one of the worst things to ever happen to gaming.
