Dang 2025? This looks like it has a great deal of polish already. I wonder if all of this is hand-drawn and they’ll need the time for all other assets.
Bit of an odd one, but the “Jump Up, Superstar” sequence from Mario Odyssey. It was just a crash of nostalgia combined with the unapologetic celebration of Mario games in general and a heap of affirmation that you, the player, are awesome. It was so beautiful that I couldn’t help it.
And other givens like the endings to Mother 3 and Undertale.
This system is in the game. You can look up info for Pokemon biomes. TL;DR is that open street maps lists zones related to terrain, and Pokemon GO has always had separate spawn pools related to these. The major ones are forest, mountain, waterside, and urban.
As of several years ago, this distinction was heavily reduced, and it largely flattened the spawn pools worldwide.
But in 2016-2017 I’d specifically seek out rivers to find Magikarp and lakes to find Poliwag.
With the resurgence of city builders, it would be a great time to remaster this game. I know my wife would adore the vibes of this game but would be frustrated by the outdated UX.
It’s not for everyone. You have to actually learn what the game is telling you from text, little physics interactions, and more. Nothing is completely spelled out for you, and everything you accomplish is a result of diligent understanding on your part.
Shout out to Miasmata, the only cartography horror game ever made! It’s really rough around the edges (like, crash-to-desktop if you tab out rough) but it’s one of the most unique games I’ve ever played. The fact that you have to use triangulation to fill out your map makes the game tense and immersive.
