No one is gaslighting. And no one is saying it’s not a valid concern. Just that the expectation to explain yourself is not valid.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’m sure they can but I think they also see the growth in the PC gaming industry as a potential opportunity to capitalize with “XBOX OS”.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Correct.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

PS XBOX and Nintendo are all in the same market, along with Steam, Epic, GOG, etc. The video gaming market. MS will probably still sell an “XBOX”, it just won’t be locked down to the XBOX game store anymore. This is a win for everyone.

Yes it has a higher initial cost, but it will be lower in the long run. Finance that shit through Klarna or some shit and you’ll still come out on top.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Reminds me of DogFart productions 😅 If you don’t know what that is, don’t look it up.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Sometimes you just gotta ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Ideally the creator has their own accompanying written version…

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Who in their right mind is buying this?

People who don’t want to spend $500 on a PS5 to save $20 on a game.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They should have accounted for old games in their estimates though.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s about a decade old but it’s the couch version of Steam, completely navigable with a controller. If you’ve ever seen a Steam Deck, that’s just Big Picture Mode.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

No, it’s exactly the same.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

No, but that is also not a function of Big Picture Mode exclusively, that’s a function of Gamescope, Steam, and Linux as well.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

If you run Linux and Gamescope then yes, you can do that, although it’s probably not super useful to throttle a desktop processor.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

You won’t be able to undervolt your GPU from Big Picture Mode. You can’t do that on Steam Deck either, you can only lower the TDP of the APU.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Because you don’t actually have to install the shitty launchers

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

No other company has as much active distain for their fans

Pretty sure Apple does.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Did you miss the OP?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They’re much worse, for a myriad of reasons, but mainly because they are extremely litigous and overprotective of their IP to the extent that they regularly kill open source emulation projects that support games they don’t even sell, and also shut down any kind of fan-made projects or events.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They didn’t say anything about a sale…?

10 incredible PC games that never got console ports—until Steam Deck happened angielski

Here’s the thing most people still miss about the Steam Deck—and I’m saying this as someone who’s been yelling about it since forever—is that for decades, the PC had countless exclusive games that never set foot on a console. No ports, no Nintendo love, no Sony handshake—nothing....

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

And trust me, I begged. Pleaded. Lit prayer candles.

Why would you do that?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The Steam Deck brings about a conversation about what a console is. To me, it’s something that plugs into the TV and doesn’t require KBM, and in that regard it very much is.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Where did you find that information?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

So you made it up.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Ah yes, the classic “everyone who disagrees with me is a troll”

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s very likely that the Switch 2 will far outsell all other PC handhelds combined. And that is very much a loss. Not just to Valve, not just to PC gamers, but to everyone.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

All the reasons listed in OP

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

…well that’s an interesting (bad) presumption.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I honestly don’t even know what you’re trying to say.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I sure as hell am glad I bought my Switch and and several games second hand

I had a Switch but I sold it after realizing that even second hand games sell for 90% of new. I’ve no idea how the economics of that situation works out…

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Physical goods are no different in that when you pre-order something you really have no idea what you’re getting. You’re counting on the reputation of the company to deliver on their claims. Which is often a bad idea.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I am constantly in awe of how many people want to watch this cringy dude ramble into a 1080p webcam mounted on the ceiling.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The only reason you should buy a Switch is if you have no self respect, don’t give a shit about being in an abusive relationship with Nintendo, and don’t care about sending thousands of dollars to a company that hates you to get an artificially limited device, and absolutely MUST play Nintendo first-party games, in the intended fashion.

The Deck is such a better device in nearly every way.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

“Deck verified” is an absolutely useless metric and very often wrong. I pay no attention to them and neither should you.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The OLED is the same size as the OG but lighter.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

“Although users own the hardware, the software that’s needed to run it is subject to a license agreement,” attorney Jon Loiterman told Ars. “If you violate the license terms, Nintendo has the right to revoke your access to that software. It’s less common for software makers to revoke access to software in a way that disables hardware you bought from them, but the principle is the same.”

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They refer to Sony’s ToS:

If SIE Inc determines that you have violated this Agreement’s terms, SIE Inc may itself or may procure the taking of any action to protect its interests such as disabling access to or use of some or all System Software, disabling use of this PS5 system online or offline, termination of your access to PlayStation Network, denial of any warranty, repair or other services provided for your PS5 system, implementation of automatic or mandatory updates or devices intended to discontinue unauthorized use, or reliance on any other remedial efforts as reasonably necessary to prevent the use of modified or unpermitted use of System Software.

Although I’ve never heard of any reports of that, and I’d love to see it tested in a courtroom. Deliberately bricking someone else’s hardware because YOU believe for some reason that they’re not using it properly is on a whole other level than just disabling online accounts. It’s vindictive.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

That’s why the first thing I do when I buy a new game is to turn off the internet and boot the game. If it doesn’t boot or work offline, I refund it. And I just don’t buy games that have Denuvo.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I usually start on easy mode and then steadily increase difficulty as I go. Nothing will make me refund a game faster than being 20 minutes in and dying 74 times in an impossible encounter. LoP is one of those games.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The difficulty is not a problem for me so much as the very slow movements. It takes like 2 seconds to swing a sword. Meanwhile the opponent is still attacking. Just can’t figure these games out, myself 😮‍💨

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

But look at the typical apple user. Do you think they’re going to be happy without the apple experience?

Oh my God, they’re going to have to make decisions for themselves!? The horror!

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Its recurring news going back multiple years at this point. And probably into the future.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

But I don’t like the loot goblining. Constant hunt for ever higher damage numbers.

I honestly don’t know how people play this game. Every 12 seconds coming across new gear. Can’t do it.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s a combination of a huge variety of attributes and an endless supply. I just get anxiety about walking past a super powerful weapon or dropping it in exchange for something else without realizing it.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Could be worse. GOG’s approach is super annoying, and a lot of platforms (like fucking Apple) actually require the use of insecure and invasive SMS verification. And as far as I know Steam hasn’t been hit with any data breaches since 2011.
