It presumably works with a normal TOTP app.

E: confirmed it works

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They have TOTP but only in their app.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Not exactly, no

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t but I’ll bite: How did you set that up?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Interesting. My copy of Half Life from 1998 never got an upgrade for new hardware 😞

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Oh, which hardware was this upgraded for?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Didn’t answer my question.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Weird, considering it came out several years after Steam Deck and it works just fine on my desktop PC…

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I mean that makes sense, considering they’re Nintendo games and it’s a Nintendo console.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Generally, yes. But Epic is not competitive in any way.

Their idea of being competitive is not to deliver an amazing product, it is to buy exclusivity for games so they can’t be sold on other platforms, which benefits no one except themselves.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s a great game but it runs like ass and uses Denuvo so I can’t recommend it.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The fun thing about PC is everyone is using different hardware.

I dunno what DF is but I assume they’re running Nvidia cards on Windows, in which case you probably won’t have a problem.

My 6800XT doesn’t go above 40 FPS.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

you may have some other performance issues?

The game has forced Ray Tracing and FSR is broken. Both of which lead to terrible performance on AMD machines. Those are the issues I’m having.

he reports a rock solid 60FPS targeting native 1080p

…am I supposed to be impressed by that?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s better than you’re getting

It’s not. I’m running in 4k.

DF recommends using XeSS

Which also does not work. I am not alone here. Tons of people are reporting this. It’s not on my end.

If you’ve maxed out every setting

I haven’t. It’s the same settings I use for most games.

I have no sympathy for you or your performance complaints.

I’m not here for your sympathy. I’m here to answer OP’s question.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’m not sure that qualifies as “runs like ass”

As I said, I’ve had this card for years, I run tons of other games at 4k/60 high and they all work just fine. But it usually requires FSR.

there’s no mention of XeSS issues

Do a search for “DOOM Dark Ages black screen” and tell me there aren’t dozens of reports. Switching to TAA solves this issue but obviously strangles performance.

I wouldn’t recommend frame generation in any circumstance

Nor would I.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Any links for Linux gamers?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

That hasn’t been my experience 😞

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’ve been unable to get the repacks to unpack with Bazzite.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Give them a real, damaging fine that makes them think twice about doing something like that ever again.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Aside from screwing Linux users, they’re also screwing AMD users with forced ray-tracing + broken FSR, and I’d imagine there’s also a lot of overlap there.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

How did you get it working? I’m getting like 40 FPS over here.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Oh I don’t have Windows. But I’ll look into the HDR stuff, I usually leave it off.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

It’s a free ride, but you already paid?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Ugh, this discussion happens every time this topic comes up. There’s nothing about the phrase “review bombing” that implies the reviews are somehow illegitimate. It just means a large number of negative reviews in a short time.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

While it mentions malice in the first few words, I would argue many of their examples are not malicious, including the one given about the first known use of the phrase:

One of the first appearances of the term “review bomb” was in a 2008 Ars Technica article by Ben Kuchera describing the effect in regards to Spore, in which users left negative reviews on Amazon citing the game’s perceived lackluster gameplay and digital rights management system.

based on this article I’d say it has more to do with the organized nature of reviews. It even says:

Review bombing is a similar practice to vote brigading.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Giving a game bad reviews because of “lackluster gameplay” and DRM is malicious?

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

What other purpose for reviews is there than signaling to others whether or not they should buy the game?

Do you think the negative reviews for No Rest For The Wicked don’t have the intention of making it not sell as well? And if not, why do you think players leave them?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Yeah but Valve also made that open source at the same time.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

If they wanted to “make a splash” they could have released it 3 years ago. I don’t know what they’re waiting for. With the launch of Steam Machines it was made available to everyone on day 1.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

SteamOS has been available for years but no general purpose desktop release as of yet. Or anytime in the near future.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Yes there’s a new iteration every few weeks

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Not true. Steam OS is not the only immutable distro. Lots of people actually prefer that for their desktops.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The current Arch-based immutable SteamOS distro is and has been publicly available for years.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Yes, as I said in my initial comment, there is no general purpose release.

It’s not true that you can “literally only use it on Steam Deck” either, lots of people have already demonstrated it working fine on a wide variety of devices. It’s just not intended for that purpose.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Not hard enough that it hasn’t already been done for years by volunteers with zero budget.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

There are several.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Bazzite. Chimera. Nobara. HoloISO?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Roflcopter, they can do both of those things.

Power levels are changed via the quick access menu and input options are configured via Steam input, which doesn’t even have anything to do with the distro in question, it’s part of the Steam client.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Let’s say it’s not true, Valve can choose to release a distro that is mostly-complete and add additional features later or they can update it in secret for some strange reason while sitting on it…?

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

The other distros I already mentioned are already more than “good enough for most people to use”. So I disagree.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Agree, those look A LOT like AI.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They could. Or Trump could fold tomorrow. No one knows. I don’t even think Trump knows.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Assuming he has one before he died.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

There’s no “solidifying” anything with this guy. His reign is based on his whims and emotions.

Players Have Too Many Options to Spend $80 on a Video Game (web.archive.org)

Fact 1: Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox announced this week that it will sell “some” of its upcoming video games for $80 — a hike from the previous standard price of $70, which itself was a hike from $60 just a few years ago. This comes in the wake of Nintendo Co.’s announcement last month that the new Mario Kart game for...

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

This is just the way it works. Things stay the way they are until someone has the balls to make a change. Once one party does, all the other parties see it as a signal that they can also raise the price.

Remember when Android phones used to be like $400-500? Apple saw the end of that, others followed their lead. To this day you can still buy very good phones for that price, but the majority of phones have moved into the $1k+ market.

Honestly I’m okay with games being priced at whatever they’re worth instead of some arbitrary fixed price based on industry norms.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

That’s true, but it’s also worth noting that as the industry as a whole has grown, even physical media only costs a few bucks. And as we’ve moved away from physical media, that number is effectively zero. So there’s no increased costs as they’ve scaled, only increased profits.

I’m in dire need of a new monitor but, it seems, it is harder to find a good one than I thought.

I currently have the 24G2 which is 24 inch and 1080P. It was great but it unfortunately kind of died. White lines, lagging with tougher games and such. So I was researching for a good gaming (and productivity) monitor and found the DELL G2724D. The DELL looked gorgeous compared to the old 24G2. Unfortunately though, insane...

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Q-OLED and kind of fell in love. Was ready to purchase one until, I was not. I found out it’s not a good match for productivity usage due to burn-in issue

This is an old view carrying over from old monitors. It wasn’t much of an issue before and definitely isn’t now. People have been trying to intentionally burn in OLED monitors to show how difficult it is. Like, leaving it on the same bright image on full brightness 24/7 and it takes months to generate any sort of noticeable burn-in.
